- Created by local filmmaker, Paul Russell, the film, Watch The Birdie, captures the excitement of locals as they watched the golf tournament - in aid of the Variety Club of Great Britain - held in August 1977.
I was a 10 year old junior golfer at Renfrew when this event took place. I remember watching these stars in wonder having only ever seen them on TV or the big screen. Sean was a gentleman (sadly just departed - which brought me to this film) and I managed to get his autograph. James Hunt was a rebel, wearing jeans and a t-shirt on the course - no other mortal would have been allowed that privilege in these days. Old Brucey was taking things very seriously, he wanted to win by the looks. Jimmy Tarbuck made the crowd laugh, asking what's this? throwing ice from a champers bucket onto the ground - an eskimo peeing. It was an amazing day, and to see some of the old faces I knew back then in this vid, brings back some very happy memories. I'm in New Zealand now, but if back in Scotland, I'll pop my head round the corner to take a look at the old place. Good times!
Glad you enjoyed it Gary. It was a discussion on the Renfrew REMO page that inspired it. Seemed to have been a real talking point back in the day. Lots of folks with funny stories and happy memories of it.
I guess Im asking randomly but does anyone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account?
I was dumb forgot the password. I appreciate any help you can offer me

@Caden Shepherd Thanks for your reply. I found the site on google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Caden Shepherd it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my ass !
I worked behind the bar after work and at weekends. Bing Crosby and his golfing buddies were supposed to be there but he had sustained a leg injury and cancelled as did the rest of the American contingent.
Lovely to see Jim Adams who is a sweet man. Always smart in his blazer. Kenny Canning I remember as a junior getting served at the end of the bar. I think his tipple might have been soda and lime then.
Brucie wasn’t a happy bunny as he wanted to play with Connery but Tarbuck did. He was very rude and wouldn’t sign autographs. My Dad reminded him it was the people who were asking for autographs that put him where he was when he saw two young lads being snubbed.
I remember the day so well. The Harpers were the club master and mistress, and ran the bar, the catering, the clubhouse etc.
