    I'm 71 years old. In the days before plastic Easter eggs, my mother would save the eggshells from breakfast. She would poke a very small hole in the bottom and chip away a piece from the top then "blow out" the egg. She would be left with an almost complete eggshell. Then just before Easter, she would dye the shells different colors, fill them with fake grass, and add small candies to the shells. Talk about special!!! So much better than plastic eggs. Just the thought of hunting for those eggs brings back such fond memories for me. Perhaps you could try this out. I think many crafters would love to give these to their kids rather than the store-bought plastic ones.

    my Tip:- I put my unwashed egg shells into the hot/warm, but turned off oven after baking dinner and this makes the shells a bit like fine bone china and also a bit stronger (keep a watch on them unless you want them browned). It will also bake in the egg white residue and this also adds to the durability of the shell with no smelly decay. *Another tip is to paint a little gold edge on the broken rim to get a bit fancy. Thanks for the great ideas you’ve shared today. 😊

    I love the look of all the layers on wood! I want to try it on a thrifted foot stool. But should I seal it or will that take away from the old look? 🤔

    • @KMF3
      @KMF3 7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes you have to seal it. You can use a mat finish

    • @OurUpcycledLife
      @OurUpcycledLife  7 месяцев назад +1

      I would seal it with a water-based poly acrylic sealer

    Thank you for NOT painting over the ceramic bunny vase at click 27:37. Many "dated'' items are perfect the way they were initially created and that's what makes them delightful. The duck at click 19:31 was also perfect AS IT ORIGINALLY WAS -- so much character. When you painted him, he lost his eyes and his bill and became a drab lump. Yes, we all have different viewpoints, but painting almost everything one drab colour makes items lose their uniqueness.

    Thank you for all of the wonderful repurposing ideas, I love to decorate but can't afford to buy new items. I always enjoy repurposing anyway. Someone said there is no"away" in "throwing something away".
    Watching you paint the bunny reminded me of something an art teacher taught me years ago.... Always paint the sides first and it can dry while painting the first side and when painting the second side you can hold it safely by the sides. It also helps to prevent paint blobs in the sides.
