Julie Foudy has blossomed into one of the most knowledgeable, insightful, and eloquent commentators to ever call soccer matches. I always love it when she is covering a match. If she wants it, there will be a prominent position for her within the U.S. Soccer Federation or FIFA itself.
EA’s early soccer game commentary was bad though, and poor Julie was the color commentary on FIFA 2000 on PlayStation. Whoever wrote her script did her a great injustice. I love her commentary on tv!
Excellent retrospective of a groundbreaking team. USA dominance in women's soccer started with these fantastic women, and it should never be forgotten.
I was at the Chicago game and it was like a video game, they were scoring goals so quickly I went to get beer and missed two goals. I don't think people still, do not understand the importance of this team and our women. As a soldier I've been around the world some and I've gotten to see how much of the rest of the world treats women. It isn't good. The fact that our women not only compete, but dominate says something about us as a culture and people. The importance of this cannot be overstated. In other countries women are treated only marginally better than goats, our women compete with the hearts of warriors and if you compare their game ( all women's games) versus the men's you'll notice how the men dive and carry on like babies to get calls and the women do not. I like watching women's games more. I wish those women would read this and know how much I appreciate their efforts and how grateful I am that they represent our nation to the world.

I’m a Scot and was living in Canada at the time. This was an awe inspiring tournament and it cemented my love for the women’s game. Watching how the US comported themselves, their spirit, tenacity, and drive impressed the hell out of me. That’s why I’m here at this time reliving that tournament. The 2019 finals just wrapped up with a US victory. It was easily the best WWC so far. The level of play from all countries just gets better and better but the American women are without a doubt the class of the world. So congratulations USA! Keep inspiring women’s soccer.

The other USWNT crops with Hope Solo, Abby Wambach, Carli Lloyd, Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, Rose Lavelle, etc. will still help the USWNT win titles down the road, but they won't have the same consistent class and humbleness as the 1990s USWNT's.

That Brandi had probably taken that penalty 1,000 times in her head before. We all do as kids growing up in any soccer-mad country. But I can only think of 2 people that have actually had the opportunity to do so: Brandi and Fabio Grosso of Italy in 2006. It's unique and special to me to see that even if just for a few people, sometimes childhood dreams can become true.
Why why haven’t i seen this before. I didn’t get into women’s soccer until last maybe a few years ago. And more seriously until last year, but I’ve fallen in love with the past and current U.S. teams. They are a true inspiration. I kinda hate how Julie says old bags for da scene where Wambach, Morgan and Rampone all meet together wit Foudy, Hamm and I believe Chastain, those three athletes and three current should all never call themselves old they represent America in a truly positive way no one can ever forget.
Thanks to these girls, now ladies, I was able to have a wonderful relationship with my daughters through soccer. Their impact was so, that my first daughter is named Mia. She has big cleats to fill. Thank you ladies. You’ll always be remembered.

David Cummings Can't say I'm a huge expert on it, but a lot of people will tell you the people behind US Soccer started getting serious EARLY ENOUGH about a USWNT in the '80s to create something lasting and big while the USMNT are still trying to catch up to the rest of the world.

+David Cummings it's because in the USA, we have a big talent pool to chose from for womens soccer. Compare that to the males in the usa who's first sports they want to play when they are kids, is either american football, basketball, baseball, or hockey. Soccer comes in about 5th in terms of sports that male athletes pick here. We have lots of academies to train the women and start when they are little. Helps that we started way early in the 80s as well when we got a national team.
I agree with the premise of what you have said, however... some points to clarify 1, The world Name for the World Game is FOOTBALL. 2, Your silly grid iron game, comes from the game of Rugby named after the southern english town when Football split and rugby came about when William Webb Ellis stopped kicking the ball, instead he picked it up and ran with it. Look at the two Code games of Ruby Union and Rugby League pitch especially league in regard to your silly grid iron game... pitch markings goals and the oval ball are all very similar... So in reality It should be called American Rugby!.... do some research and you will see that I am right.
I am almost 15 and my mom was pregnant with me durning the 99 World Cup my mom watched the World Cup so when it came time to name me they went through the whole women's roster pairing up different names the two they were desiding on where Mia Michelle or Brianna Nicole and they went with Mia Michelle. The fact that going into my senior year in high school, I remember showing up to a house where my gf and her soccer players (from my high school) friends were at, and they were excited as they had just witnessed something great. I was so non chalant about the situation. Little did I know that I would be so influenced by these group of athletes as a college and pro football (american) player, as a high school teacher and as a high school coach. The chemistry and role playing by each member, shows what talent alone is not enough. I now I am a fan of the program, I stop my day for a world cup match, or an olympic match; and thats because regardless of who the players are, the standard of excellence has endured 24 years later. What a group of remarkable human beings. Thank you for all the thrills. GO USA!

May I call you Charli ?...I have raised this issue on similar posts...American Football fans (misinformed people) don't know, or choose not to know, that their game comes from when our original game of Football. The game split into two different game's when the ball was pick up and ran with in the southern English town of Rugby...hence the game of Rugby!. That game (Rugby) split into two similar game's slightly different rules (1) Rugby Union (Ruggah) played by upper class people, in the midlands and southern England.(2) Rugby League played by northern England working class people. That game Rugby is the Original/Embryonic game of American Football..So in reality it Should be called American Rugby...check out a rugby league pitch & markings, ball...that proves where the silly north American game comes from.
I was 4 years old and I picked up my first soccer ball after that game and played my first season. And I have yet to be on a team with the composure and love for one another and the game.

The comradery they had together gave her that support system she needed. That they all needed to support each other.
Coming here for some comfort after that devastating loss in the 2023 World Cup. The 1999 World Cup team played with so much heart and humility…and they could make their penalty kicks. This was missing from the 2023 US team with the exception of Alyssa Naeher and a few others.
i played in late eighties and early nineties because my friends played the game. I never worked so hard and in pain then high school soccer. Our coach would make us do 6 inches and then throw the soccer ball on our stomachs. He was hardcore.❤😅

The US might, eventually, get on board with the pitch thing, but soccer is never going to be thrown out. In the US, football is a game where the ball is thrown. It is why I love living in the US...a place of such logic. But soccer or football brings up Shakespeare's, "A rose...." thing, I love it no matter what they want to call it.
May I call you Charli ?...I have raised this issue on similar posts...American Football fans (misinformed people) don't know, or choose not to know, that their game comes from when our original game of Football. The game split into two different game's when the ball was pick up and ran with in the southern English town of Rugby...hence the game of Rugby!. That game (Rugby) split into two similar game's slightly different rules (1) Rugby Union (Ruggah) played by upper class people, in the midlands and southern England.(2) Rugby League played by northern England working class people. That game Rugby is the Original/Embryonic game of American Football..So in reality it Should be called American Rugby...check out a rugby league pitch & markings, ball...that proves where the silly north American game comes from.
I was 4 years old and I picked up my first soccer ball after that game and played my first season. And I have yet to be on a team with the composure and love for one another and the game.

Coming here for some comfort after that devastating loss in the 2023 World Cup. The 1999 World Cup team played with so much heart and humility…and they could make their penalty kicks. This was missing from the 2023 US team with the exception of Alyssa Naeher and a few others.

i played in late eighties and early nineties because my friends played the game. I never worked so hard and in pain then high school soccer. Our coach would make us do 6 inches and then throw the soccer ball on our stomachs. He was hardcore.❤😅
