    Star(t) edition/solo version of ARCHICAD can be a good start, in case of initial investment, on the other hand, there is a 3-year payment method for ARCHICAD, which might be cheaper.

    i just recently downloaded a free-trial of the latest AutoCAD Architecture 2021and i would say there are some new features that are worth considering. I think the new template that they introduced which allows you to draw as object instead of lines is great. what i mean by that is the new autocad architecture is starting to be more like revit in terms of workflow. For example, in the latest version, if you want to draw a wall, you just simply pick a wall system and just draw the path, like i said, similar to revit, instead of individually draw the line and trim, offset, fillet then hatching like the previous version. This imply for door and windows too and it provides tools for scheduling as well. Plus, all of these work in 3d too. though, i don't think that the new Autocad Architecture is anything close to BIM software but i do believe that these new features are worth the try especially for those who still uses AutoCad without knowing of this new feature.

      The AutoCad Architecture vertical provides huge productivity gains compared to reguler AutoCad. We use it in my office. But honestly, its not full BIM like ArchiCad. We use it more or less in 2D only, you can still count doors/windows and so on, draw complex walls, but the 3D part just sucks and we dont use that. It also has not seen any major developent since atleast 7 years (like most Autodesk AEC products), yet license fees go up significantly every year.

  • @reggiegalliford7233

    I understand the comparison, but there is not a single reason to spend money on AutoCAD over Archicad. Any professional or business in it for the long term will soon realise that Archicad is much better value. No one is going to make a career or business decision on purchase price alone, you have to work out the value over X amount of years. There is nothing AutoCAD can do that Archicad can’t - Archicad has a comprehensive collection of 2D tools, so I don’t see how you could draw anything in AC that couldn’t be drawn in Archicad. Nice video David, there are still many people these days that don’t know the difference, so even though it’s “not a fair comparison”, newbies still need to know what they are paying for so well done putting it out there.

      Dear Student, If you want to find a job after school, learn Revit. I’m a certified Instructor of Revit, and a certified Archicad BIM manager. I’ve been teaching Revit for 15 years. It’s free for students and there is actual learning content available. The biggest reason to learn Revit is this. There are 20 Archicad jobs posted in Belgium, and 265 Revit jobs. If you are using a Mac, get rid of it, and buy a pc. AEC uses pc. Lastly, I teach professionals these days. In USA schools do not teach BIM, so companies pay me to train you as soon as you start your job. School BIM and real BIM are different. You are wise to look ahead.

    I hope you are aware AutoCAD has lots of series.
    If you wanna compare ArchiCAD with any of AutoCAD brands then it should be AutoCAD MEP.
    It does both 3D and 2D, for Architecture, Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC system.( BIM)
    What matters is what kind of job you are specialized on. I am a MEP designer so I use any based on the contract I get and file being sent to me, Revit, AutoCAD file or ArchiCAD.

    • @DavidTomic
      @DavidTomic  4 года назад

      @@DavidTomic I understand you, maybe the one who requested for the comparison doesn't know about AutoCAD MEP. When it comes to MEP works the best to use is AutoCAD MEP. I realized that in ArchiCAD the HVAC system you can only input sizes but there is no option to input the Air Flow or velocity. Correct me if am wrong.

      @jamstechstudios 4 года назад

      @@reggiegalliford7233 BIM is not a software. You need to understand what it BIM and you should understand why I mentioned autoCAD MEP. Who defines which tool can be used or not used for BIM(Building Information Management)

    • @reggiegalliford7233
      @reggiegalliford7233 4 года назад

      @@jamstechstudios I'm not trolling you here, just trying to clarify - BIM is Building Information Modeling, not management. It is largely software, and AutoCAD drawings to not contain any information in the "BIM" context other than what is drawn on the plans - unlike Archicad where there is a huge amount of information that can be extracted, from quantity takeoff to a full specification. AutoCAD plus MEP is not BIM.
