Things this fixed: - Thresh didn't do all this just to be human again. He did this in order to leave the Shadow Isles and follow his machiavelic plans (he's not in Noxus just for fun, after all), and this is all a means to an end. - He doesn't have muscular abs after all, it's armor plating that looks like abs, probably for the aethetic and to sell skins (yes, these types of armor plating exist). - He hasn't changed at all, he's still a humongous ass.
Also at 2:04 we can see Thresh's original design as a shadow. I think this is supposed to imply Thresh can shape-shift, he chose this appearance to blend in (at least I hope so)

I love the small detail on the table where Thresh is just so strong, he holds Bort's cursed hand with three fingers. You can even see his arm struggling to set free and then giving up. I like that.
I really like how that brief interaction with Thresh caused the arm to go completely docile. You can see it chattering in fear when Borst is sweeping (and again when he's investigating the screams), but it's not trying to attack him or hamper him in any way. The only time it acted out again was against the innkeeper, when he dared try to abuse Bort again.
When tresh is sitting by the window and when the lighting strikes it highlights his bones a little, making his skin almost seem translucent. It hints that his human form is a mere disguise. Also the coin that he gives the Bort is very nicely done, showing two heads, one skeleton and one human. The cinematic gives thresh so much more personality.
The fact he has the skull before he starts talking to Bort makes it look like the face is only a mask he puts on to make deals with people. Such an improvement.
@@letsrank9349 hey I think that's better think about it your a spirit with crab arms when he was a human he had to control the other arm or he will be punished now he is a spirit he can let loose.
I still miss old Thresh, but this is such an improvement over the LoL Unbound Thresh. A Gothic Horror-based gentleman that travels the land, collecting souls while hidden behind a illusion of humanity. Note the way the face pulls itself over the monster that walks through the door, how the shadow stays the same: The human face is not Thresh's real form, it's a mask. Also, I love that Thresh looks less than an Anime villain and more aged and sinister. An issue that remains, imo, is the vacancy Thresh leaves on the isles. The isles will need a new "face" that fits the location.
Its just literally the "Devil in plain sight" tv trope. Even making Faustian bargains too. "You get freedom (from your curse), i get your freedom (your service and soul)" He just gives win-win deals for himself.
2:16 Can we take a moment to break down this amazing scene and all the great villain points it hits: 1. "I forgot how squishy they are!" This man is LITERALLY treating humans as if he was never human at all 2. the way his lantern floats beside him and moves with his hand 3. the poor bastard struggling for breath as his ENTIRE BODY is slowly absorbed into Thresh's lantern 4: How utterly happy Thresh looks as he cheerfully exclaims "I'm free now, to do as I wish." 5. The realization of how utterly fucked Runeterra is now that this sadist torturer that wants to watch the world burn is no longer bound to Shadow Ilses
He caught a fully grown man flying towards him with one hand and didn't even flinch. Look how the guy's upper body just stops dead in Thresh's hand. It's like he was hitting a rock.
Imagine how much Bort's life sucked if Thresh was the nicest person he ever met. And yes, I'm going with the interpretation Thresh was being nice to the extend of his character, because he was once on Bort's shoes.
Sadly, the entire point of Thresh is that *he's horrible.* He was already power-grabbing and selfish when he was alive. He's actually one of the few things in the world that enjoys being a Ruined creature. He saves Bort out of an opportunity to create misery. That's what he likes.
@@MagizardInternet it’s hardly sad, thresh is arguably one of the most fascinating characters in lol, the depth of his character is fascinating, I don’t think thresh was actually trying to be evil in a self interested way, he saw a win win situation in bort as he said he was a prisoner too, working in a secluded dungeon for hours alone, he saw himself in bort and saw he could give bort revenge while also torturing souls
"Someone gives, and someone gets... There are two sides to every transaction." Yes, very true Thresh. Me giving my teammates the lantern as an escape tool. And them getting still bamboozled, because they don't take it and rather like to flash away from it.
Taking Thresh out of the Shadow Isles and giving him the freedom to travel wherever he wants throughout Runeterra is easily one of the best decisions Riot has made. Can't wait to see what sort of interactions he'll have with other Champions in the game.
Riot's cinematics are good, but they fucked up the story with the events... Even that last cinematic from ruination can be considered great if you take out all the lore league has
This looks like the studio that does Arcane. Their interpretation of LoL character's design is very good. They can turn an anime-ish look grittier, and still keep character's identity. Only if Thresh model in the actual game looks like this, I wouldn't mind the change one bit.
Nope. This is Axis Studios, Fortiche Prod is the one animating for Arcane. Axis Studios have animated every Tales of Runeterra cinematics, K/DA's MORE MV and Valorant's Cinematics

I wish the illusion completely came off when he showed his true colours though. He was already grabbing people and putting them in the lantern, there was nothing to hide and he was just showing off cruelty. Would've been nice to see the contrast.
The fact that Thresh is still the last person to hold that coin, it show that in the end, no matter what happened, it is him who take control, the mastermind of all cruelty. Bort gained nothing, still a slave but of another person, and he gladly accept it. Thresh, The mindbreak master
well, bort's former master pretty much forced him to be his slave while thresh gave him a choice. Bort chose thresh willingly, so he's no longer a slave, but a servant
Still he lets Bort have fun tormenting his bullies and gets rid of his cursed arm, sure he's dead but still he's enjoying himself now. "Your curse, is his..." "...his profit, sir." I just realized that Thresh knew something was wrong with Bort's cursed hand story, someone as kind as Bort would never pick pocket anyone unless he was forced to do so.
Wait what?? Well I did feel confused as someone like Bort was a pickpocket, doesnt fit his personality. But now that you said it maybe someone else put him up to it. Wow.

@@4thsin098 Ugggh all the more painful. Noxus is legit one of the worst countries in Runeterra. I like that Bort's cursed arm almost seems calmed by Thresh's presence. Notice how it only really lashes out towards the coin, but the moments after Thresh touches it, it calms down. It only freaks out afterwards by almost instinctively smacking Bort's boss. It's like the curse can sense the presence of another malignant force.
I don't know if I read it correctly, but I think that when Thresh grabs the crab hand and says "Go on, put it to pocket before someone else does." - he is actually threatening the crab hand, and as he does, it stops moving and Bort takes the coin. Thresh is so badass in this cinematic that he can grab a cursed super-arm with three fingers and threaten it out of existence for a while. In fact, the next time we see it (1:30), it seems to be shaking as if its in fear of what happened there.
Reqding this and realizing the crab arm may have emotion a random funny thought hit me In another dimension/world/somewhere in this world maybe there is a giant crab monster with one human arm and a claw instead of 2 claws
I saw it more as Thresh reminding Bort how bad his situation. Perhaps even intentionally holding the coin up so the boss would see it and take it, considering thresh could definitely see the boss walking over from his perspective. Also I think he has super strength because he's undead and doesn't have to worry about muscle strength.

Why not strike a deal, be free to a certain extent and still get revenge towards those who treated you bad? If you're going to die, but gets to be on top of other dead people, I think most people would choose the same way Bort did
The best part of this animation is how this Unbound Thresh looks NOTHING like the splash art and in-game model. He looks like a person and not like figurine you would find in the bed of a deranged teenage-girl in the early 2000s
If a Riot cinematic producer is reading this, just saying that I love the face Thresh make at exactly 2:34 . That's the best emotion in this cinematic. Appreciate the effort, keep up the good work out there
This was a fun cinematic! I love how evil and manipulative Thresh is. I thought Thresh was a good guy for a moment due to his conversation with Bort, and freeing him from both the curse and his boss who profited from his curse and stole his money. But then I realized Thresh simply gave him a new curse (eternal servitude), is profiting from Bort's new curse in the form of a new tormentor/worker soul, and even took the gold piece back at the end when he became Bort's new boss! The scene of Thresh entering the carriage, flipping his gold coin, while Bort's old boss was tied up was probably my favorite in light of this. Great job on it!
But hey He won't really need that money anymore as a soul Plus he's practically able to slap around the other souls since he has the higher authority Thresh gets a soul who is loyal to him and feels indebted Eternal servitude might be a curse but it's a curse this guy would gladly have over the humiliation of the crab hands Plus he gets to whip his old boss
@@dizzyheads Oh yeah, for sure - good point! It might just be a variation of his old life, but at least he's having fun in this one. For Bort, I suppose, that's all that really matters!

When done right, a character reclaims itself with just a few good spoken words. This is a thousand times better than the Absolution cinematic. Props to the animators for another great cinematic. They've given us more grit and lore with just a few minutes to spare.
I didn't like Absolution either but we gotta say that without Viego's imprisonment, this cinematic wouldn't have been possible I guess there's nothing wrong with Absolution, only that people would have loved a more deep cinematic (something that could have lasted more, definitely) and all characters to be present (poor Yorick & Co.)
@@fantagreenchannel but there's a lot wrong with Absolution, it's just anime characters doing a classic "friendship wins over the bad guy" and Viego's not a fearsome foe anyways. None of the actually interesting characters, just those designed to shill out skins and rp purchases.
@@alexsaints1962 Well alongside with perhaps Thresh, we also have Mordekaiser too (or at the very least, many thought Mordekaiser was a seemingly bigger threat to Viego). @@itsgonnabeokay9341 Yeah Mordekaiser is unrelated but everyone knows in lore that if he start making his move to his domination he will a bigger and harde threat than viego will ever be.
@@itsgonnabeokay9341 He is related in the sense that his thing is also all about souls, he might not be directly involved in the Shadow Isles, but if he ever returns the Shadow Isles would present themself practically as a prime target for him to subjugate, and that with ease likely due to the nature of them.
Ohh interesting, I love how it makes Thresh 'seem' like he's being nice to Bort but at the very end it shows him throwing the gold coin and catching it- he's the one getting in this transaction, and all Bort has done is exchange his chains to someone else. Really good animation.
As it appears from this cinematic, he can shape shift as he will so basically he's just blending in, using this human appearance as a disguise but he remains the same, just free to do as he wishes without the restrains of being bound to the mist. At least that is what the cinematic implies, so the skeleton Thresh we know and love remains in disguise!! If that is the case I welcome unbound Thresh, IF this is the case! - Thresh didn't do all this just to be human again.

2:03 the little details like Thresh's shadow creeping along the wall really make this cinematic. S tier work.
The original head of thresh
The shadow is his true form, the current look is his mask while he travels about, gathering an army of the dead.
Good eye...
@@boxtank5288 If you think Thresh is gathering the dead, you know nothing. He's nothing compared to Mordekaiser.
Imagine if they'd done this attention to detail for that massive event that happened
Honestly, Bort seems like a very chill dude. Would totally love to see more of his stories lol.
For some reason, now i kinda wanna see a champ of Bort if he was XD Like him and his accursed claw.
He seems like the perfect friend to talk over a few beers and tell stories about anything
"There is life"
"There is death"
and then teemo jungle main.
Manco approves.
A fellow shroom forest main? I welcome thee.
First form!! rather clicking flash more then the lantern
My favorite cinematic so far, made me fall in love with thresh getting a bit more empathetic, humane and stylish after getting free from the shadow isles.
I've watched it so many times and cant stop!
Yes i hate his face but the lore to it is good. Thresh collects enough to soul to unbound himself from ruination and get his physical body back
A pretty good excuse for china told no Skull/Monster in the game . No complain
yeah but he hates flesh, he hates being a human, he even says it in game
Do wish he had a nice beard.
@@facepalmingskeleton hay 1000 years of madness in the shadow isles can make any one desperet to get his humanity and freedom back thresh is not an exeption
at least his face here shows signs of imperfection and oldness, whereas his splash art... well, pretty boy goes brrr
"There is life"
"There is Death"
"And there are Yuumi mains"
I SCREAMED LMFAOO
"There is Life, there is Death, and there is TOTSUGEKIII!"
Right in my face
More like zoe mains lmao
hey
I honestly feel like this is one of my favourite runeterra cinematics ever. Just the fact his shadow shows bound thresh and the way it says the voice line gives me goosebumps. Makes me wanna play thresh, honestly even play League again after quitting for several months.
I felt that “Aa-no one escapes!” line on a personal level as a Thresh main
That's the power of league cinematics, they make you want to crawl back to playing the game again, _very_ powerful
dont ! its not worth it hahahaha
He does give that feeling of "what's he gonna do next"
@@Spot_Faceless-Soldier
Yeah but when you come back it still trash
"There is life, there is death, and there is me" Is such a powerful line
Unbound Thresh is starting to make sense... Just the human part, the abs are still out of place.
Progress tho!
Those are actually not abs but part of his outfit
thing is, it makes no sense for him to want humanity.
those aren't abs (as a lot of people thought) ... those are actually something similar to clothe armor plates ... It is clearly shown he's wearing some sort of clothing up to his neck loool
@@demsterclippy4252 he's not human though. It's looking more like a mask, he can now go anywhere
@@demsterclippy4252 exactly
He is such a kind guy, even when he is bad he still call him Friend
lol, it's called manipulation
What a paradox
"look how they massacred my boy"
He's still thresh prisoners and we don't know what he will used by thresh lol
I like that Thresh can choose the positions of the spirits he holds. Like, I don't like you so you're gonna be a slave! I do like you, so you're gonna be the guy in charge of the slaves lol
he figured capitalism alright.
But the one he likes is still his prisoner tho..... but a little sympathy would'nt hurt right? Edit: They did also *HUMANIZED* him too.
@@_friedtofu Well be seemed pretty good with being a prisoner lol
Thresh doesnt like anyone tho, his only interest in other people is making them suffer for all their worth
@@saltytoast6669 Didn't look like he was suffering at all lol Not saying Thresh doesn't like making people suffer but that doesn't mean he can't make an acception
Man I love the thresh interaction with Bort, it makes Thresh feel like an actual character instead of just a evil monster while keeping his despicable side
The first appearance of thresh gave me chills. Damn. He's giving me a dracula vibe. I knew there's more to him than just a pretty boy face.
I'd like the new skin if it looked like this
@@hahaha1171 I'd still prefer if they hadn't changed his canonical appearance (and to a human that doesn't look like he did in life, too), but this is way better than Fuckboy Thresh from the skin art. Since the damage is done, so to say, this is a better direction to go than what we've seen before.
@@EldritchMcPie if you look at the wall after thresh comes out of the room you can she his true form as the shadow he casts onto the wall
He looks like loki
Screw Arcane, I want The Adventures of Thresh and Bort on Netflix
Let's not be too hasty. We can have both.
I want Arcane too, but now I want these two bros' misadventures too.
Can we add the adventures of TF and graves please?
@@mahmoudsherif7373 Yes please!!
Yes to everything
"There's life, there's death, and there's someone who's gonna build AD thresh and takes all the kills"
So just Cyro with AD Top Thresh
Boom! One shot! Boom! One shot! Booooom! One shot!!!!!
The first words they'll say after they one shot someone is "I forgot how squishy they are".
@@nfutckr2292 lol, adc's.
I'm not super good at it, but I love playing that build.
I am still SO in love with this cinematic. Amazing storytelling in such a short time. The animation of Thresh's eyes with the lightning flashes, the ghost of his shadow on the wall, and Thresh's voice acting are just phenomenal.
"I forgot how squishy they are"
*sad adc noises*
Crit thresh be like.
@@TrulyBS-QJ did you mean oneshot thresh in urf?
Ad Thresh be like
The only redeeming thing about unbound Thresh- the animation. Animation department never fail to amaze me :')
and the lines
and it is not Riot, but another studio, sadly they didn’t credited the studio at the end
@@inna-akhmedova even if the animation is not from Riot, but there's no cinematic animation that's bad in quality. I tried not to fully hate on the Sentinel Ruination cinematic because the animation was too good despite the bad writing.
@@inna-akhmedova it axisstudio
@@inna-akhmedova and sometime we must see the description ok
When thresh says "I was a prisoner too"
You can see a shadow of his skeleton face on pc
That is a cool touch !
I thought it was pretty obvious
Probably watching this for the 15th time, Thresh never fails to get me hooked.
Oooh I see what you did there XD
My relationship with league of legends be like: I love you I hate you the lore is absolute garbage I am deeply in love with the lore I give up I can't stop loving this this is the worst thing I have ever seen this is the best I wasted so much time hoping it would actually give me what I desire I don't regret a single moment I spent waiting for more lore
It has more plot twist than polka dot man has of polka dots
Same
This single thresh animation better than the final Ruination battle on pc version channel .Not to mention based on the worst skin in Lol 2021
I love you, but I hate you, but I love you, but I...
Aka it not like I love or everything baka
2:34 I love Thresh's eyebrow just going up like "look at this dude lmao"
all of the facial expressions are amazing but Thres' just damn perfect.
thresh is like '' get a load of this guy lol ''
Nice eye bro, didn't notice that one
jesus....
Get a load of this guy
Nasus: the cycle of life and death continues...
Thresh: lol no
This is jokes. Lmao
You forgot to put me in the cycle
Mordekaiser: lol no
*literally anything happens*
Bort: "BUGGER!"
The team who makes the animations deserve more credit than they get.
And honestly, Thresh looks neat here, wish he didn't look terrible on the game
I mean sure? but they already get all the credit though. At least 100% of the people agrees that they should forget about the game completely and move to animation, where they actually shine as a company.
@@Levi_Ackerman_005 yeah but they still deserve so much more because this is just gorgeous
They are so good, they get people to like unbound Thresh in their own interpretation.
Sadly, in-game model will still look like an e-boy.
Maybe if they remove , that distracting glowing abs of his,.. It would look cool, in my opinion.
@@magi1340 he look so glow cause the green is bringht, if you want to see his real face maybe change the color to darker green
