Paul is no doubt excellent but it’s not fair and downright irresponsible to make such a blanket statement like that. There are absolutely other great RUclips golf instructors out there. Adam Porzak is another great one I’ve learned a lot from.
I like Porzak's tuff too. This issue is that some tips people are putting out there are only going to work for about 10-20% of golfers. I want the 80-90% so I say things differently. Really, they should put a warning on some of the tips.
@@paulwilsongolf I understand completely. Both your and his content resonate with me more than 99% of the other RUclips instructors. So much so that I primarily digest only the two of you Cogorno golf’s stuff. I’m sure there are plenty other good ones but I like 2 trim the fat. Anything else would just be excess
I wish that when I started learning golf, 30+ years ago, the teacher would have taught me like this. I'm trying to adjust and it's going on great. Now my son-in-law wants to play and first thing i told him, watch Paul Wilson's videos if you want to play great golf. Thanks a lot, Paul, always a pleasure to learn new things with you.
I have heard that many times. At least you found me now. So let's get you playing great golf. Glad you told him about me. Need to get him before he gets bad habits. Tell him to post a comment and I will send him the videos I send to beginners. Keep at it.
This feeling finally clicked!! I been trying to implement the body swing for years and could never do it. I finally feel loose and keeping the finally throughout the swing. For years I was tense up and the belt buckle for me works best. I tried the one using the feet and that was harder for me. It's still not perfect, but if I had 10 balls now, 8 or 9 will be great contact. Thank You for continuing to put out the best golf material. I have tried everything and nothing wrong. Stack n tilt didn't work, only this. So thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!
Whew! Thought you were never going to get it. The problem when people try to make changes is they keep trying to hit great shots. I keep trying to make the change. Pros get the change then the get the shots later. See the disconnect? Glad you are finally on your way. Choose the trigger and stick with it. It is for life and how you hit every ball going into the future. Great feeling when you are on track. Going to be a great 2024 season for you.
Paul the body swing is fantastic. Sorry to fan boi so much but my irons have arrived brother. Not one round but over 20. Sure I over draw when I stall and top drives when I have too many drinks but the game is becoming fantastic and that relaxed back swing and powerful swing is tremendous. Here is my conclusion. Hips with powerless arms == low point control, lag, and compression.
My trigger used to be straightening my left leg, which I picked up from your Swing Machine Golf series back in 2007. As I got older and began lifting my left heel on the backswing, my trigger now is to simply replant that heel to start the downswing. I think that’s the easiest trigger for those of us who lift the lead heel going back.
You can certainly do that. I have just gone back to keeping my feet planted. Just reaching back more (deeper) which coils my shoulders without issue (long story). Do what works for you though. I am switching to left sided trigger to keep pressure off my right hip. So we are kind of on the same page.
…it took me dozens of videos to realize what you said…I was confusing the swing machine mechanics with the body swing…but both need torque…for me I can’t get torgue when lifting my front foot…but you probably have figured out a way that works for you…
My downswing trigger is right knee forward. It helps me subconsiously do the belt buckle method you are showing. If i think about triggering the hips, my knees are doing straight and stiff and i end up just turning the hips alone lol.
Such a valuable piece of instruction Paul! I have been doing this for years - especially as someone who, like many golfers when they first start, casted the club, i.e. swung from the top - which is the death move. My swing thought is "right hip smooth" (the "smooth" part is because I tend to have a long arm swing, and if I fire my right hip too fast, may arms can't keep up, and my swing gets disconnected). FWIW, my driver swing thought is the only one that's different - it's "left hip toward target" because I want to feel the left hip PULL my body forward, and since I'm swinging harder with the driver, my right side rotates somewhat naturally. If I use "right hip" on my driver, I sometimes don't make any lateral move and I tend to come over the top... (this is also because my set up is different for all the other clubs vs. the driver, i.e. I have more weight on my left side at set up with clubs other than driver, i.e. I'm trying to promote a more descending strike than I am with the driver) Of all the instruction that is out there in the RUclips sphere, etc., this is certainly one of the best, especially for the high to middle handicap player (i.e. 90% of all golfers)...
I think this is what I need. I’ve had too many inputs to just swing the club. From shoulder tilt to lateral hip movement. And I think just having the lower body trigger will help me. Gotta try it!
For sure. If kids are weak and they hit it a long way they have to be using their legs and hips. So yes legs and hips. Get used to it because it's a totally different power source.
It was not my best round of golf yesterday. I was chasing my swing. I couldn't find the ball. I was trying to find the sweetspot. I was thinking about my swing instead of just swinging. I was using my lower body to start my swing. I tried everything..it wasn't terrible. It's wasn't pretty. It was golf. I'm not giving up on this at all, Paul... I did do what you said. Taking it from the range to the course: you need to go out by yourself with 3 extra golf balls in your pocket. Don't keep score. Swing no more than 50%. Drop balls and hit extra shots. It is about actually trying something new when you play. If you keep doing your old swing when do you ever change? With driver, you pick a close target a few yards away or way way way in the distance that you cannot possibly reach. You cannot pick a fairway bunker at 250. This is a distance thought. So with new targets, your thought is to hit the fairway not hit it 250 down the fairway. Irons, I would be taking one more club and trying to hit the center of the green not the pin. Swing smoothly. Throughout the round you could be doing practice swings holding the club in the air hinging and rehinging to keep the wrists loose and other times you can be holding it in the air firing your legs and hips so you get used to the feeling of using them as the power source not the arms. Do this for a few rounds by yourself until you get used to a new way of swinging. Right now, if you play with others you will think distance and you will revert back to your old swing. It is all about doing something new. It takes a little time to get used to it. Also, don't forget to do daily practice swings at home.

I hit balls off the mat very well, but when I am on the course with uneven fairways, I have a hard time keeping my balance. End up using more of an arm swing to make contact with the ball. Any lessons on that?

Fairway bunker shots are like real golf shots with a few adjustments. Don't dig in your feet more than 1/2" (You don't want to take sand before the ball) You need to hit the ball first as you would do on the grass. Grip down just a little to make sure you are going to hit the ball first. Head as still as you can so you don't lose balance. Aim left playing for a fade with 7 iron and up. 8 iron down you might hit it straight or pull it a little due to the head being kept still. Take one more club. Normal full golf swing. Trust you will hit the ball first.
Hey Paul, during the downswing should I delay the upper body rotation or keep my back towards the target as long as possible ? I'm only playing a few rounds of golf a month. In my group, I'm coming out on top. Yes, thanks to your program. I have a friend who has to win. How do you deal with people who get in your head on purpose? He uses it on who's ever leading, It's been me for a minute. I don't want to golf with all the head games. Any advice, Mr Wilson ???
Do this. The next time you play with him after he hits a decent pitch shot you say, "you are the bet pitcher of the ball I've ever seen." That's it. You could change this to other situations too. You are best I've seen on par 3's. Something like that. The pitching one is great though. Try it.
He hits the shot and you casually say, "Your the best wedge player I've even seen." That's it. Don't make it obvious. Just casual. As he tees off and hit a fairway, "You're the most consistent driver I've ever seen." Say it exactly that way. Casual. After he hits a decent shot. Don't dwell on it.
You could do the old classic, "let me as you a question, do you breathe in or out when you swing?" That one has been around forever. I would try mine first. Works great. After you say that he won't even be able to hit the green. Not sure about driver. I would think he won't hit too many after that.
I don't have a ton of short game tips posted. It's a fine line with what I give away. I have a membership site where people pay for access so it's not really fair to them if I give everything away. Plus, I do a short game tip and no one watches it (crazy). Pitching is simple. Set the backswing by hinging your wrists for the shot you are trying to hit. Hi. I like your trigger point tip. How do you know what your set point is to start the downswing trigger since not everyone can turn as far as one needs to. Thank you.
You can feel the coil in the left lat telling you that you are fully coiled. You can feel the club set in the wrists at the top or both. Think coil then wrists. Once you feel it set fire the lower.
Glad you like it. There is timing you know. If you only speed up one thing how would both things be timed? Follow this tip: ruclips.net/video/bLskGy7rulo/видео.html
Paul, I found that when I used the belt buckle turn trigger that I still kept my weight back and didn’t shift to my front leg. I changed that by firing with my back leg as the trigger to make the turn happen. Does that sound like it could be right?
Well you need to get off the back foot. It is not just turn the belt buckle and do nothing. Pretty sure I said in this tip to get to the follow through. If you want to do the back leg that's fine too. That is the trigger I use cause I'm right side dominant. So totally up to you. Just realize you are getting fully rotated and ending up on the very tip of the back toe when you are done. ruclips.net/video/pCzCGEbThio/видео.html ruclips.net/video/ibkTQCoxUaA/видео.html

Yeah, I guess he never read Hogan's first book "Power Golf." That's why Hogan had an extra spike on his right shoe (count the spikes on the picture of him hitting a 1 iron at Merion).
I got this goin pretty well but I’m long straight left when I start with my body and arms shutoff. You’ve mentioned to me in another video comment what I need to do to just get it down the middle but keep the length and straight flight.
This is because you are immediately shifting left as you do it. I am not doing that. When you shift you lean left. Lean left and you will swing left. When I start down I turn back to the ball. So I get back to 50/50. Then I keep turning and the weight moves left by impact. So you are coiling back say 80/20 then you are 20/80 as soon as you come down. You need to get the body moving. As I keep saying most ams are just facing the ball as they hit the ball. This will never generate any power. Love your teaching my misses are hit on the toe any suggestions
Thanks for the support. Toeing is lifting up through impact. Lift up and the club moves in towards you thus hitting the toe. Work on:

Is it common to hit balls off the hosel when switching to body swing? Should I line up closer to toe prior to take away?
No it's not. Watch this one:

I'm trying to use right knee moving forward, followed by left cheek of my backside going back.
Hoping to get a more effective one from this program.
Those are good. Right knee should fire ahead of the ball. Not sure if you are doing that but that is a trigger you can use. This is a Jimmy Ballard trigger. Left cheek going back is good too. Just get to the full follow through.

Glad you liked it. Thanks.
I'm only playing a few rounds of golf a month. In my group, I'm coming out on top.
Yes, thanks to your program.
I have a friend who has to win.
How do you deal with people who get in your head on purpose?
He uses it on who's ever leading,
It's been me for a minute.
Try it.
@@paulwilsongolf I will try it today.
Great Advice Paul.
@@paulwilsongolfI have a funny. I could tell him your the best at being a ??..
I've been watching Gary Player tuition and he says exactly that..😊
For sure. Got to be thinking about it. Too many people just whacking away at it.
Paul do you have a chipping video and like 50 yards in. Thanks
Once set, turn your belt buckle as I show in this tip to hit the shot. HINGE/TURN

I like pushing off right instep. Also like firing my tight groin toward target
Very good. This is what I did forever. Do what works for you.
My latest rounds my hips were sore using my body for the first time it's like neo using his eyes for the first time in the matrix lol.
For sure. So glad you are feeling them. This should loosen up in about 3 practice sessions. Stay focused.
Love this system but I am hitting huge push fades at times. Any suggestions
Glad you like it. There is timing you know. If you only speed up one thing how would both things be timed? Follow this tip:

I meant my right groin

Sorry, new to the game

Used to be pushing off my right foot which unfortunately my golf pro talked me out of
Yeah, I guess he never read Hogan's first book "Power Golf." That's why Hogan had an extra spike on his right shoe (count the spikes on the picture of him hitting a 1 iron at Merion).
Do this and you will see what I mean:

Doing practice swings at home is the fastest way to get it. Keep it simple. You just need to do a few moves to build a great swing. Hinge rehinge. Coil uncoil. Tons of tips on all this stuff now. Start with the hinge rehinge first.

My trigger hands slight drop into the slot and Gooooo
Yeah, don't really like a hand trigger. If it works then keep doing it but rarely have I ever told anyone to do that.
Do you do the same for irons?
You sure do.
Mine is my left knee moves straight back and my right knee moves towards the target. It stops my legs from swaying etc
Very good. I like those.
@@paulwilsongolf another one I like is to fire my right hip towards the golf ball
Yep, that's good to. Gets you to this position:

Yes, this is vital.
@@paulwilsongolf so simple.
My downswing trigger is my left heal going back onto the ground.
Very good.

You're welcome.
I have been watching you for a while now. I stopped coming over the top. Slowed everything down, opened my hips, but I'm still not getting the distance I want. At Impact my arms are straight and it looks like I'm going to a chicken wing. But again at empact I'm straight. Any help??
You need to get the body moving. As I keep saying most ams are just facing the ball as they hit the ball. This will never generate any power. It would be like twirling a weight on a string without your hand moving before the weight. Not going to work. Need your body firing. I have tons of tip on here now about this. Watch:

hinge...belt buckle...re-hinge
Coil hinge belt buckle re-hinge.
Left foot press, left butt cheek to the "wall"
Good. That will work.
