As Elliott Smith used to double-track his vocals, it's a very good idea to sing it with two voices ! And am I wrong or Chris Thile is an Elliott Smith fanatic ? Last year he recorded "Independence Day" on his album with Brad Meldheau and both of them played "Bottle up and explode" live...
gootsy Yeah. Chris Thile seems to adore Elliott. And he is really doing well. I adore Chris for his contribution that ES will never be forgotten. This version deserves millions of views instead of only a few thousands.
100% agree. Madison did a wonderful job here on back up vocals. She's such a sweetheart, and quite a good musician, in her own right. I actually remember hearing her for the first time at a live perfromance she gave in SoCal ( one girl show), at a Sunday night service that a friend invited me to, years ago. She must have only been 15-16 at the time. I was thoroughly impressed. I got a chance to speak with her briefly afterward, and I was once again impressed - smart, thoughtful, gal.
It's pretty bad. The guitarist fucks up the intro when it gets to the slide up and down part and he slightly loses it, and is then trying to catch himself. The "double vocal" doesn't work when the girl decides to go higher at the end of each verse, and also dropping the double vocal for the bridge doesnt work either, because the guy goes to the wrong key for it. I'm a huge Elliott mark, if you're going to cover him, you've got to do it right.., this is barely "half right" ;p (in-joke) I refuse to accept anybody not play it accurately, as he did, covers of his are not open to interpretation or making it your own, because you cannot do anything to make it sound better than Elliott did. I also feel the guitarist would benefit from sitting down, I just feel the angle makes him accent the top strings not enough, and it's not really so finely picked throughout, it becomes more of a strum, to get highs aswell as the mids.this is too self indulgent, and not enough credit or respect is paid to Elliott on this. It's one of the worst Elliott covers I've listened to. Sorry guys. Time to reassess your representation on this, and how respect to Elliott should achieved. The credible part is the guitarist, but he needs to become less rigid, it's complex, but not supposed to be a chore
Agree. The hits on beat 1 and 3 mess with the original feel of the rhythm which has softer emphasis on 2 and 4. I think you gotta cover it without any percussion or with just ambient stuff not establishing any patterns. Otherwise it just gets a groovy feel which is not elliott. Still a great cover though
Two strong singers capture the fragility of Elliott's voice. Amazing discipline.
I'm not sure how its possible for this show to fly so under the radar on RUclips.
Do a whole set of Elliott whenever you want, I'm ready.
Second this
Waltz #2 This
@@joshlovegood9392 there is a waltz no 2 that Chris did if you search it on RUclips you’ll find it - enjoy!

This is exquisite. I love hearing favourite musicians cover my favourite musicians.

I was here. I was about to jump out of my seat when they played this.
I love the atmosphere of those scratchy violin sounds! Nice work!

@@sherlocketek2289 LOL taste is subjective. It’s a good cover in my opinion and the opinions of others. Calm down.
Elliot is smiling.
This would have been nearly perfect but there's something off about the percussion. Amazing job. ES forever.

27000 views? The algorithm sucks!
Guitarist struggling a bit on the best part of the lick.
