Nassau was great when we visited last April. We walked from the port to Junkanoo Beach. There was nothing negative about our visit. I hear repeated accounts where people don't get off the ship in Nassau. I just can't relate based on our experience. We will be returning in May. From what I've read it will be during Nassau's carnival. I can't wait. In summary, Nassau has unsafe areas like the rest of the world. So a little research and planning, like this wonderful video, will be very helpful. Safe travels and God bless!
I agree! Nassau is wonderful and from my latest trip, I prepared the Top 10 Things to Do In Nassau video that can lead t 50 unique things to do and see in Nassau: ruclips.net/video/O-v2aCrs_8A/видео.html What's even better is these can be done in a half day or less from downtown and the cruise port to inspire those on cruises to get off the boat and enjoy the best of Nassau. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and its safety tips. Thank you very much for your input on this video. 😀
@@francinestraw3032 Thanks so much for asking! The 1-Day and 4-Day Itinerary links are in the video description above, but here is the link to the 1-day for your convenience: www.corrtravel.com/nassau-1-day-itinerary-pdf/ Enjoy!
What a great, thorough, and informative video!! I loved it!! We are going in, August. it will be the 1st time there with the new port and all the shops, which will be great, but I would also like to shop at the local shops, as opposed to the tourist places. Is the downtown area where we can find the local shops too? Thank you so much for making this vid!!
Glad it was helpful! The downtown area has most of the shops (local and 'touristy') available to you in a close proximity (avoid areas in the Safety Tips section). Getting a block or so away from the strip is better. Heritage Village has more 'local' shops, though and is accessible on foot. While you're exploring on foot, check out the historical sites, The Graycliff, John Watlings, National Art Gallery, and Hillside House. Have fun!
Hello. That's a good question. I'm really not sure. If it's one of those small, portable tents to keep you out of the sun, my initial thought would be that the would be allowed. But I would ask your hotel for confirmation. They should be able to tell you.
Honestly, I think it has good rates considering where it is and what it offers. They are not a plush, cushy resort, but they have everything you need and the staff is really friendly. They may still be doing some renovation work - I'd ask - but it didn't bother me when I was there. I requested the highest floor possible with a view and they complied. I'd do a quick cost compare with the other hotels/resorts I provide in the video description and see what you think. I'm betting Marriott will be the lowest hotel of those I list. Let me know what you decide. FYI, I'm going to be coming out with a short review of this hotel in the next week.
You're most welcome! Yes, I hear you can rent mopeds and scooters. I would ensure you are comfortable driving on the left side of the street and be cautious as some drivers move quickly. Be careful. Here's one link I know of for scooter rentals: viator.tp.st/eKtBi75v
Hmmmm... it IS peak season. If you go online and see a lot of availability, then you should be fine to find something if cost is not a factor. I hope you get wonderful weather and have a great time!

If it is a closed-loop cruise from the US (starts and leaves from same US port), I do not believe you need a passport to disembark in Nassau, but I would double check that with your cruise line when you book. Have fun!

There is a travel advisory level 2 by US department of state, because of crime. What is the safety level in general. Is walking around something that is done there for example?
Yes, I walked extensively in Nassau during the day. In a nutshell, much of the crime is located in areas where you will not go as a tourist. Please see my tips in the video on the two places to avoid. If you feel uncomfortable walking, take a taxi. Of course, use the Safety Tips I provided in the video as well. Have a great time!
Im gonna be honest, from the outside looking in, it seems like crime is out of control. But where in the world isnt? 99% of any crime stays within a certain bracket. And tourist aint in that bracket. So dont feel as though you have to stay on the cruise ship or be confined to the hotel property your entire stay
Don't want to get ripped off by Bohemians. Look for the credit card only option. Places that don't take cash like Baha Ma is a good place to start. Their excuse is it's their only source of income.
Nassau has NOT been any kind of "centre of slavery". It was a pirates republic until 1720 when the pirates were expelled by Woodes Rogers. There were no plantations there and after the British abolished slavery in 1820 it is where they dropped off Africans liberated from the slave ships of other countries. The black inhabitants of the Bahamas are not descended from slaves.

What were costs of lounge chairs at Junkanoo beach? Is there any decent snorkeling there? And are there bathrooms?

Hi guys. Do you know if pop up beach tents are allowed in Nassau's public beaches?
Hello. That's a good question. I'm really not sure. If it's one of those small, portable tents to keep you out of the sun, my initial thought would be that the would be allowed. But I would ask your hotel for confirmation. They should be able to tell you.
Yes it's allowed its a public beach
How was the rates at the Marriott Hotel? I’m planning on a trip next month.

I'm so sorry you feel that way about cash in Nassau. I used cash everwhere and had no issues whatsoever. The Bahamains were always most helpful.
