    I’m from Nassau. Born and raised. I’d say it’s the same as anywhere else. It’s just exaggerated because Nassau is supposed to be “paradise” but you’ll have such a different experience if a local accompanied you and showed you the ropes.

    I have visited Nassau Bahamas 13 times starting in 1986. I have a simple rule for those just walking around Nassau from the port. I call it the 3-street rule. Do not venture more than 3 streets deep from the Nassau waterfront. Stay along the waterfront if at all possible. You can walk to Arawak Cay (Fish Fry) with no issues traveling that direction. Walking the other direction toward the bridge to Paradise Island, it might get dicey so take a Taxi or a Jitney. If you go deeper into Nassau than 3 streets take a taxi or a Jitney. Being a Pirate 🏴‍☠ that visits Nassau often there are a few Scallywags that give the rest of the wonderful people of Nassau a bad name. If you take a water taxi or excursion on a boat in Nassau Harbor you just need to know how to swim and be able to swim fast enough (Think Olympic swimmer tryout that only has a pass or fail) to get to safety before Tiger and Bull Sharks decide your now on the menu! 🤣 Wow, Brandon you have been there 84 times! That is very impressive! I'm visiting Nassau 2 times this year! When you leave the Port Terminal look like you have somewhere to be! Don't look lost!

My question is about parking at those beaches. Have you ever done that & do you know any good spots to park &/or see? Thank you! (Taxi too pricey for 6 adults to & fro.)

    I live here full time. You can walk to Atlantis, you can walk to Baha Mar. It is a nice exercise. Not dangerous at all. So Please…. We got the level increase because of the inner city violence. Do not go there. Same for all cities, all countries. Do not go there. Nassau is safer than pretty much any city in the USA. Be aware of people trying to rip you off. Same as most places. They will charge what they are not ashamed of asking. You can negotiate. Always ask the taxi driver how much it will cost to go from A to B. Always ask at the terminal how much it should be. Small things like that. Do not rent a scooter.
    They are not in the best shape and you will have to drive on the wrong side of the road in traffic conditions you are not accustomed to.

    Whenever I'm walking around in San Francisco, I feel like someone gonna mug me XD. But the place I actually felt my life was in danger, that was in Italy Rome 4 years ago. There's rando trying to trick tourist into following them into a alley, they all dressed up in suits with "official badges" telling you the church or site is closed and you need to get refund or reschedule and follow them. Then there are bracelet sellers outside Duomos, who actually grab your wrist trying to put a bracelet on you. That time I said no firmly, the guy tried to grab my shoulder and quickly walked away but I noticed I was followed for a good 2-3 minutes. eventually he found a new target to harass. It was freaking terrifying. All that was around 2-4pm and I was with a friend too so even then it was dangerous

    As always, total excellence of information provided. A combination of your extensive cruise history visiting this port of call, as well as plain ol' common sense will certainly encourage future cruisers to do some extra research. At the very least, it will provide for a less stressful day, and at a maximum . . . the info could save a life. There was a moment in this video that I said a rare naughty word and had to back things up a few seconds to grasp that what I heard was actually what you said. "I walked to Baha Mar". Dang!!! That's extreme. I take a taxi, and on occasion they even get twisted around in directions, so huge Kudos on making that happen on foot. I’ve been traveling to Nassau since the mid-90s and it 💔 to see it this past November. Complete dumpster, I never felt more unsafe. It used to be AMAZING! I’d pick up some Starbucks and and a pair of new Gucci’s right at port (not Atlantis). Cruise ships need to listen to passengers and build elsewhere. There are SO many Bahamian islands with kind locals that would love our support. No need for sprawling resorts, just a rustic beach will do. 🇧🇸❤️‍🔥

    • @zidane0196
      @zidane0196 7 месяцев назад +3

      Since the mid 90s the businesses that were downtown moved to other places in the island. Mostly due to them changing the direction of the roads for Atlantis believe it or not. Most bahamians don't even go downtown anymore unless they work there. Better shopping elsewhere. The rest of the island is fine and safe and mostly clean. Downtown Nassau is not an accurate reflection of new providence or the rest of the Bahamas. Most of downtown is owned by wealthy families who for some reason like to war with thenl government on the development of downtown.Government is contemplating forcing the private owners to either redevelop or give up the properties. So that's a bit of I fo as to why it's different from the 90s. Bahamians are have much higher standards of living nowadays bit you would have to actually leave downtown to see it😅.

Cruisers pay port fees to these islands that need to maintain its safety and they fail cruisegoers everyday... Crime happens everywhere, but to be targeted when you get off a Cruise ship is something else.

They have taxis that should offer you a flat fee to go to Atlantis and the two or three times I have done this, I had a good experience. It's further away than you think and local taxi drivers are normally able to give you a quick tour or tell you about their island and country on route.

    Talking safety in Nassau saddens me.
    I know I am looking at Nassau now with ‘rose tinted spectacles’
    Nassau was a location where the cast and crew spent a lot of time filming Thunderball back in early 1965
    Also spent time at Paradise Island
    Sean Connery died at his home in Lyford Cay which he lived for around 18-20 years
    The cast and crew had a ‘whale of a time’ there and the Junkanoo
    Many behind the scenes videos from thunderball the place looked great and no way dangerous but 60 years ago

But we have Bahamians who love to travel to USA who are afraid to do so because you can get kill almost anywhere in USA except for the four major sports so far, The has not been a mass killing at NFL game, NHL game, or NBA game or Major League Baseball are basically the four events you can feel perfectly safe thus far but any place else you could be running for your life. If do some real research you will find that the courts are very harsh on any Bahamian that commits any crime on tourist versus black on black . Black on black crime, the criminal know for all the legal offences that person will do longest time, meaning offence that has the longest but when it comes to a tourist my brother they all of them together when you ass come out jail you might be sixty or eight years old. Everyone knows avoid all crimes against a tourist.
