Considering how utterly dominant the 2002 Ferrari was it's a miracle anybody put any other car on pole. Montoya managed 7 poles in 2002, which sadly resulted in no wins. Must be some record in the history of F1.
Like Senna made this at Lotus. Not the best car, but always on pole. But sometimes Senna won.. Hey.. sometimes, somebody answer your post 10 years later kkkkkk 😂😅
@@proro1974Havent Ferrari had a deal with the FIA at the time? I think that they could deny rule changes or sometjing like that, thats why they were so dominant at that time.
@@jurekgadzinowski2895Ferrari's veto rights were granted in 2005 amd I believe they've used it twice so far. Both times it was for budget caps, one in 2009 which failed anyways and then another in 2015 in regards to a cap in engine spending. The next season had an interesting ferrari controversy as they complained about Michelin tires wearing through their grooves and making the tires like slicks. It's alleged that they knew about it for years but only complained once it was clear they were falling behind williams on pace. The fia then forced michelin to change their tires and michael went on to win in the end.
LOL How many poles Ralf, DC and Kimi took that year? I'll answer for you: ZERO. Montoya took SEVEN. Just italian fans biased by ferrari-centric media propaganda can underrate or deny Montoya talent. PFFF.
stop wanking on Montoya, he is indeed an excellent driver but the Williams was more powerful than the Ferrari on straight lines (Canada, Monza, Spa) and the Michelins tyres were also very efficient in warm conditions than Bridgestones, on equals car Schumi would have been faster without a shadow of doubt.
I am Colombian, and have seen this, it's really emotional when the people celebrate Montoya's pole position, this made me cry, really emotional. I love this sport.
Montoya ( as usual ) flying low and driving on the limit! One of the greatest of his era! I always say it: Montoya was a talent not exploited. I feel so sorry for him!
In the Olympus of the most seasoned drivers of all time in F1, JP Montoya occupies a prominent place. Fast, very skilled but with little luck. A champion without a crown.
Incredible lap!! Honestly, the only guy who could probably match Lewis Hamilton around Canada was Juan Pablo Montoya with his braking. Just an insanely fast and committed driver. His exit out of the last corner is the best I have ever seen around Canada.
BRUTAL lap by a BRUTAL driver. This is what f1 is supposed to be. Physics at is most rawest. Those f1 engines used to give me goose bumps all over. Its how i got into f1 in the first place. Its to quiet now. The cars are mega feats of engineering, and MERCEDES may have made the GREATEST f1 engine in history indeed in engine history. But it needs the sound. Its like playing LED ZEPPELINS whole lotta love on a little casette deck. It needs the decibels to really appreciate the sound.
He was a beast of a driver just shit teams he drove for. The BMW motor in that Williams was something though I remember watching them live at Albert park that year distinct sound difference to the other motors you could hear it’s power difference real weapon .
Those were the good F1 days. JPM was the most exciting driver to watch after Senna, and definitely one of the best all around drivers in the world. He has competed against the best drivers in the world and won in every series. Can't really say that about anybody in nascar.
Montoya..please,,,come back and give colombians more happiness on sunday mornings...we miss those years in a competitive F1 championship...you were the only one to beat the technology of ferrari..COME fucking BACKKKKKKK
Travis Pastrana. Hes a 10 time x games gold metalist. But alot of todays nascar guys do sports car series races. Where driver from all over the world race in. There have been a ton of f1/indy guys do nascar recently. like Villeneuve, tagliani, carpentier franchitti etc . Ambrose is a good example too.
@Marcus666Sund Yeah absolutely the V10 were the best. And I don´t wanna think about 2013. 1,6 litre V4 Turbo engines. It´s just ridiculous what the FIA did to F1 and will do to F1! What a shame!
Just look at the top speed, you guess it right MS´s FIDDLErrari. But oh no some blinkereds said that the BMW was faster. Yeah right, faster indeed it was but with JPM behind the weel. Great fotage Indifan33,flawless lap and in all the 3 sectors, superrr. The truth prevails MONTOYEAH.
5 km slower than Schumacher and still making a pole lap. Montoya was better than Michael, he just didn't have the car and ferrari went through the best times those years..
Actually Tony Stewart won a championship in CART and IROC and is considered a dirt racing legend. And his success in NASCAR puts him as one of the greatest as he raced and dominated in dirt, open wheel and stock.
+Invincible278 "instead of crying in front of the TV" have no idea how this comment made u think i was crying. clearly ur just somebody on the internet looking for moments to be a complete douchebag without any cause whatsoever
yes, brakes still glow today when they overheat them... they are trying no to though, since there are so many rules about changing parts and tweaking the car now
That's true, but to be one of the best in the world, I'd say you have to race in different series against the best drivers from different parts of the world... not just your backyard. Other than the Indy Championship, not Cart, Steward has been racing against the best oval racers here, not the world. So that was my point. There's no one in Nascar that has done that. Oh yeah, Marcos Ambrose in Super V8s.
Montoya and hamilton have quite a bit in common in terms of racing. They both looked up to and idolized Ayrton Senna, they both have an aggressive style, they both do audacious overtaking moves, and both have a bit of temper (maybe montoya's was a bit worse than hamilton's)
that BMW was so powerfull that Williams could run higher wung levels and beat everyone at Canada, Germany and Italy adn possibly Malaysia still bad reliability, race pace and luck werent on their side.
Duh!, good one. We are talking about "best drivers" that have actually won in multiple series competing with drivers from around the world. How many championships or races has Scott Speed won? Leclerc is the same, 21 pole positions and 4 wins or something like that
Ferrari race pace was just vastly superior somewhat due to Williams eating their tyres come race day

5 tenths faster than Schumacher....
Montoya was an insane talent, no doubt about that.
Mark FormulaRacer It wasn't Schumachers fastest lap.
Der Riethelm and is a great driver
It's all about incredible grip by Michelin tyres against Bridgestone in qualyfing that year.

The scream of the crowd !!!! AMAZING. ......!
You will never hear it now...
because he beat that fuckhead
It was more amazing because you could bare hear a thing during those days...Many people forget how many fans loved Montoya during his stint in F1.
un piloto que merecía se campeón de la formula 1
JPM is brilliant no question about that

The scary thing is he could have been quicker if he had taken the straighter line at the end of the lap as opposed to the longer diagonal line
Montoya schumi mika Alonso. threshold of real f1 racing. pure skill. killer instincts.
Kimi.
*of the early 2000s.

Miss so much this colombian

He puts almost half second on Schumacher!!!
That's it Montoya!!!

17 ans plus tard et rien n’a changé! Bertrand Houle et Pierre Houde ont encore EXACTEMENT la même voix...
so sad he ended up in Nascar. Love watching him throw a single seater around, so spectacular
grande Juan Pablo Montoya

El piloto más veloz que he visto en mi vida...!!!
En cualquier vehículo..
Love it when you see the brake discs glowing.
Its a shame there's no points for pole positions laps like these, back in 02 Juan was mega on all quali sessions
sin palabras, simplemente hay que aplaudir ese estilo de manejo
Great driver. Pleasure to watch his performance.
Montoya..please,,,come back and give colombians more happiness on sunday mornings...we miss those years in a competitive F1 championship...you were the only one to beat the technology of ferrari..COME fucking BACKKKKKKK
I just loved that livery...
Wooow! The 2011 Pole of Vettel was 1:13.014! So a 2002 Williams BMW is faster than a 2011 Red Bullon this track! Amazing lap of Montoya!
0:57 flaming disk brakes
Great memories of F1 2002 season, more exciting on Saturday sessions
been looking for a while for the onboard version
Kamikase Montoya !!!!
Michelin really keeping F1 alive during those times...
Meu idolo um dos melhores pilotos do mundo

1:25 What is this? football goal? 😂
@Maarttiin montoya is only fast in qualy, 2003 and 2005 were evidence of that.
0:30 expectacular !!!
Mereció más en la F1
Travis Pastrana. Hes a 10 time x games gold metalist.

The glory days of f1
Insane .totally brillant
Montoya is the best driver to have never been a champion.
A PUNTA DE MAZAMORRA
GRANDE EL COLOMBIANO
he was beaten by Raikkonen in 05 by a big margin, still I believe that with the 2012 cars he could be competitive
01:25 The crow gone wilds!
I'm glad Montoya didn't hang around for too long, it makes each of these memories all the sweeter.

what a fucking demon lap that was

Tony won IRL not CART huge difference.
any other clips or full race from this broadcast?
Montoya Williams
Doubt his return would be more successful than Michaels.
Nice!
the famous lion training
Really hope Williams returns to the front one day.
0:57 do brakes even glow like that anymore? it was so amazing when u could see that back then
+Invincible278 "instead of crying in front of the TV" have no idea how this comment made u think i was crying. clearly ur just somebody on the internet looking for moments to be a complete douchebag without any cause whatsoever
yes, brakes still glow today when they overheat them... they are trying no to though, since there are so many rules about changing parts and tweaking the car now
although, it's much more common for the brakes to release black dust under braking
IndyCar champion showing them who's boss :)
.. he was not outpaced by Kimi; watch Spa

this is what formula 1 should sound like
i just meant he 'competed' in those series.
Monstruooo!!!

those brakes
Scott Speed is one. Hes done f1, sportcars, nascar and is doing Global Rallycross this year too.
do some research first.
that BMW was so powerfull that Williams could run higher wung levels and beat everyone at Canada, Germany and Italy adn possibly Malaysia still bad reliability, race pace and luck werent on their side.
MONTOYA ÉRA FODA MERECIA O TÍTULO PILOTAVA MAIS QUE O VIGARISTA DO SCHUMACHER
Back to back correct.
JPM in Ferrari would have made MSC a clown...
Montoya doesn't like F1 anymore.
best forever :P
