Being born in the mid-'70s and reading comics in the '80s, I got the pleasure or growing up with these characters and I really love the X-Men but I always had a real fondness for the New Mutants! So I'm really stoked for the new movie, just hope they don't screw it up! Magik was always one of my favorites especially since she was the younger sister of one of my favorite X-Men, Colossus!
I really gravitated towards some of the later members such as Magik, Boom Boom, Rictor, Kitty Pryde, Warlock, Warpath, Jubilee, Rusty Collins, and especially Legion!

Just recently read 'The Shining' by Stephen King again, and noticed how the backstory of this and several other novels by him may be the Nigel Kneale TV and film serial 'Quatermass and the Pit'. Something falls to earth (most obviously in 'The Tommyknockers') it influences people to have / not have a psychic ability, causes events like the creation of an Indian burial ground, later a house (IT) hotel (The Shining), which gathers power and sentience from the capture of people with that 'ability'. The wasp symbology in The Shining may also fit, as the creatures in QATP were insects with a hive mind. - and there's a 1960s Disney film about a man who uproots his family on an urge to escape the rat-race of his job, buys a run-down hotel with a dangerous boiler, and nearly loses his mind trying to keep it operating. The Disney film has a happy ending, but Stephen King takes Happy Days and turns it into Christine, soo...
When you said "but successful" at 4:26, all I heard was "Buttsex" Also, I like that you explained Sunpot's powers accurately. Everybody just thinks he shoots fire.
Good casting on a few parts of the film but they really dropped the ball by adding pointless elements for specific audiences. I like the horror film concept, in which would worked into an amazing film but rewrites may have caused the film’s structure to suffer.
Setting it outside of the X-Men's mansion was the problem, but that happens because X-Men First Class wrote Moira McTaggart out of the X-Men history. No Moira, no New Mutants, except maybe Xian, if the Fantastic Four find her first, as in the comics.

I like this team. They kinda have 2 first appearances originally debuted in Marvel Graphic Novel series and then was given there own title series which #1 is just a retelling of the graphic novel.

I really wish the new mutants movie turned out better. They had all the elements to be great but it just need to be refined. I really hope that magik is at least carried on in the deadpool franchise just without all that weird racism towards Dani.

The comics series 'The End' shows that she becomes so powerful that she's much like a God of Death, able to make anything she thinks of real, and so is kept sedated and eventually put down because she's still breaking free. Rahne by this time is Dean of Xavier's School, and when she is killed by an attack on the school and her refusal to leave when there are people to be rescued, Dani feels it and lets her grief out across the world... heavy stuff.
I think it’s a matter of necessity and circumstances. The majority of students of Xavier’s school don’t have to become X-Men. These kids became X-Men/New Mutants because the main ones were missing and Prof. X had to assemble them due a threat.
This is one of the things that bug me about all of the X-Men movies , they never start from the beginning. the X-Men and the new Mutants have an awesome origin story. I can understand feige wanting to introduce the X-Men one at a time. Each character has such a deep background that putting them all in one movie like Foxx did just takes away from the whole thing that made the X-Men great in the first place. The director of the New Mutants movie he claimed to be a big fan but when you said that you didn't care about racism , I immediately wanted to know what comic book did you grow up reading. That's what the X-Men was all about man.
Obviously he does care about racism. He cared enough to completely change Sunspot's origin story and skin tone and piss off countless people who wanted to see it done right. Fuck that movie. He's whiter now in the comics too. Racism. (Sigh)
Wolfsbane has always been one of my favorite characters in Comics. Mainly because she's a fucking werewolf basically. It's honestly sad what happens to her in the comics. I didn’t mind the addition of Magik in the movie; but I was disappointed that they completely erased Karma from the team’s origin. Hopefully they find a way to include the Hellions in New Mutants 2.

the only thing I liked about the fox movies was Kitty Pryde and even then it was a small part! Hopefully Marvel will do a better job with her.
