Great video, you actually helped my decision to get the sculpfun over the xtool, I still like both of them tho but for some reason im drawn to the Sculplfun more now.
I just received my laser!! I was looking at the new 40w, but I like the size of this one, plus I have a much more powerful laser coming in a few months. I love your channel and insight!!
I am so happy I found your channel on RUclips! Thank you for clarifying everything about this machine! Excellent review! As for cutting clear acrylic, would it be possible to cut it with the paper backer on so the laser can see it? Would the 33 Watt cut through 7mm acrylic sheet in one or more passes? Can it cut milk white acrylic sheets? You mentioned vinyl labels, do you have a tutorial on how to cut them? Can it handle 19mm plywood and in how many passes? For this laser how big of an enclosure will I need to make and how will you be planning on building it? Will it have a filtered exhaust fan? Sorry for so many questions. Keep up the great work, I appreciate it very much!
Thank you. I thought that same thing that if the paper was left on it would cut but no dice. It will cut the paper on both sides of the acrylic but not the acrylic itself. If looking to cut clear acrylic then you will need a CO2 laser. The only colour acrylic I have had success with is Black. For the vinyl I have since learnt you don't want to use a laser to cut vinyl. It puts out a bad gas. I wouldn't recommend cutting anything over about 12mm of material. Laser companies will tell you it can cut thickner but I don't believe that it what they are designed to do. If wanting to cut something so thick I would reommend a CNC machine. I have a view on my channel for my enclosure and this runs through measurements and filtering system. Hope that helps :)
Hey Paul Thanks for stopping by. In regards to hardwood I would say comfortably could cut up to 10-15mm. The laser companies will will say it can do thicker but I think up to 15mm is a comfortable thickness. In terms of passes it would come down to speed and testing. You could do less passes but have to run at slower speeds which increases burning. Pending test results you may be better to run it at high speeds and more passes. It would all come down to testing. Hope this helps.
hello, I was hoping that you will cut stronger, thicker material like 9mm Mdf to see the power of the machine, if it does it in a pass or two, hopefully you will make more videos. The 33w look interesting and really, I have high expectations… Thanks for your videos
Hi Ainslie and thanks for the information you presented. I was thinking of getting a xTool unit but after seeing what is on offer from Sculfun I am reconsidering, BUT just wondering if you have a thought on a couple of things regarding Sculpfun. First, the warranty if needed if something goes wrong where and how do you get it sorted out? also, their Facebook site has quite a few people needing help with problems with their new Scoulpfun units. Are you still using the S30 Ultra 33Watt Laser and how is it going? Any comments would be appreciated to help my decision on which way to go . Thanks Laurie.
Hey Laurie Thanks for reaching out. In regards to warranty I don't think its any different from Xtool to Sculpfun. The Sculpfun team are very handys on and always look after people so I would say it shouldn't be an issue. Any problems they generally send out replacement parts very quickly. The facebook group will often some people with the problems because its the very best place to get help as the whole community will jump in and help. I see the same on the Xtool group. The best advice I have with the laser is when you get it spend a whole day testing and running it. Learning how it all works and the in's and out's. Hope this helps :)
Hello Just wath you wideo and im have questions did sculpfun s30 ultra 33w can cut playwood 4mm and 6mm on one pass and how is set power snd speed ? Thankiu
It is a reliable machine. The main thing is every machine needs maintenance so as long as you keep it clean and well maintained there is no reason its not reliable. It terms of longer jobs with the machine its depends on the material. As the laser works the laser head will get a build up of dust pending the material. Air assist with help alot with this but depending on the job you may not want to use air assist. The build up then weakens the laser. This will happen with every laser but something to think about when planning projects.
I decide to pull the trigger and get the sculpfun 33 watt laser. I have question how are the files exported to the laser. can it be done with a flash drive?
Yahoo Thats fantastic. I send files via Lightburn which is the software on my laptop that is connected to the laser via cable. You are able to send files over Wifi. I haven't personal done this but it is possible.
Really enjoying your videos. Come spring when i get my work area built im definitely going to be in the market for 1. Is there anyway though of cutting boards to kind of jig saw together. So instead of being 500 x 500 they cpuld be 1m x 1m. I want to make my kids a sensory room but i wont have the space for all the tools i would need. Thankyou in advance and look forward to seeing more of your videos
Thank you. I believe there is and its done in the software. I haven't personally done it myself but if you do some googles around light burn the software and that ability I think you should find some information. Hope this helps.
I'm so sorry. I didn't realise you replied to this. I literally just done another comment on another video of yours comparing the d1 pro and sculpfun 20w and I thought that was what you were replying too 😅. Thankyou for this reply aswell though, really enjoying the videos 😁
I have been told it does however in my testing I couldn’t get it to work out of the box. I haven’t played to much to see if I could get it to work so hard to say 100% it doesn’t. Others have got it to work so I believe it can be done
Thankyou. Either is great. The Ultra is newer and has new connection points which I think for upgrading in the future will be helpful but is limited as you can currently extend the frame at all. Hopefully this changes in the future. Both are great machines
What design software do you use? I’d love to see a tutorial on designing your own pictures. I don’t want finding a design on the internet and importing that, but actually designing something completely of your own. And then cutting it out . I’d also love to see you cutting acrylic. I’ve tried to see if you have these tutorials but I can’t find them if you do. Thanks.
I use Vectornator for some things but mostly Lightburn which I can design in and also run the laser from. I don't consider myself a creative person so I struggle to come up with designs
Great info thank you!! One question though, do you have a preference for which brand of diode laser? I see you use a Sculpfun so maybe a little bias toward that brand but is it "horses for courses" when it comes to diode laser machines or are there some brands out there better than others? I know the xTool seems to be No#1brand and so is their price but there are several other manufacturers with similar products too...
Great question. I love the Sculpfun brand. I have also tested Xtool and Ortur. Honestly they are all capable. The Xtool was great when I testing but I think for price and what you get you just can't beat the value for money the Sculpfun offers. I have a video on my channel comparing Sculpfun to Xtool which might help if you are looking to purchase. The community around the Sculpfun brand is also a fantastic help with all questions and tips and tricks. You just want to make sure you have a laser powerful enough to carry out what projects you want to make. Hope this helps :)
I'm a fan of the Sculpfun brand. I love there lasers. I find them easy to use and the support and community is fantastic. The 33W is enough for what I want to do and where I live the Xtool is a hell of a lot more expensive.
Thats awesome! If you have the S30 range you would be able to put the 20Watt head on your frame I believe. You would have to double check with the Sculpfun team but I'm fairly certain you would be able to put the 10 or 20 watt head.
Yeah I agree. The 600mm by 600mm I think is the perfect size. I have the Pro Max on the 1m by 1m frame and its great but its huge! The 600mm I think is the perfect middle ground. I will put a word in for sure
I was waiting for your review! Another reviewer talked about wobble during the engraving process due to the weight of the laserhead - have you had any issues with that? Your engravings looked very clean.
Hey I haven't had any issues. I did have to tighten up the rod on the gantry as it was a little loose but nothing wrong with the machine and no issues with the laser head. I have a video I'm working on at the moment which is all about trouble shooting common issues and detailed setup. Hoping that video will help beginners and others when issues do come up
Thanks for your video, it was informative and an easy watch - well done. Subscribed!! Looking forward to looking at your other videos. Just curious about your purchase links though. I went and did some price matching between them and noticed a couple (TT and GB) had better deals. As I hadn't heard of them before, I went looking and those same couple of platforms seem to have a lot of pretty bad reviews/ratings. Have you had buying experience with all of the ones you have affiliate links with? Thanks!
Thank you. Glad I could help. I have purchased items from all the links but I have heard that different people and countries have different experience. My advice is to purchase from where you feel comfortable.
Hi it all depends on what you are burning and the power you are running at. The majoy upside to Sculpfun lasers is they come with replacement lens which are generally the first thing to go. This means when the lens breaks you can easily replace and keep moving. On the Sculpfun website the average life span is listed for each machine. Hope this helps.
I bought s30 ultra 22watts, and run it. But I found difficulties, why the laser result different to the design on computer screen. The size and messed up. Either I drawed circle, it came up oval. Any advice?
I would either say the belts are not tight enough of the machine is out of cailbration. I would also run a test where you drawer a rectangle and measure the rectangle is as per the measurements you put in and if they are out you need to cailbrate the machine. If you need to do this just search light burn laser cailbration in You Tube and instructions should come up and you should be on your way
Does anybody know where we can get an enclosure that is big enough for this version? I've reached out to sculptfun and 3 other manufacturers. There are none on the market. Please help!!
I am in the market for a laser I had my mine set on the x tool but i am seriously considering the sculpfun 33watt laser now I will like to get a the 900mmx 900mm frame my question is does it come with this frame or do to buy it separately. Please let me know. or what will be the best way to go about it.
Thats awesome. Sculpfun haven't yet released the extension frame for the 33watt laser. It has a different connector so the frame won't work yet but I'm sure they will soon as its just the wiring that needs to be changed. You purchase the laser and it comes with the standard size frame. When released the extension frame would be extra and a serperate order.

Would you recommend this model for longer jobs, over a couple of hours, for a small business? In other words, is it reliable enough? Thanks!
