So many recommendations! If you were to build another one, put the deck down 2 to 3 inches insider the hull. There by lowering the center of gravity. 2, move the motor forward into the space behind the swimming deck, ore just flip the motor bracket around to move it forward. That will move weight forward. And i would suggest a jet drive outboard for safety.
This is awesome! I have an old jetski hull I've been trying to come up with a boat design for and this gave me a ton of ideas. I've looked all over for someone else doing it. Good to finally see someone make it happen!!
I quite appreciate your attention to safety. You come up with a concept, build a prototype, you see its potential but also its flaws and incorporate BOTH into the final product. Great job and great video!
If you add some ballast to it it will greatly improve your stability, it was designed to be stable but removing all the weight from it changed the center of gravity, try adding some weight where the motor used to be.
Nice work mate, Nice grab rail and your off. Thank you for sharing Such a cool idea I think we may start seeing a lot of these getting around after seeing this
wow that thing is sick, i can appreciate all the time and little things you did to add to the longevity of the micro skiff, not to mention the affordability thank you for sharing the build and for the inspiration !
Definitely love the idea & execution for sure. I think 2 identical 2-3 seater wave runners linked together like a catamaran would be the way to go next time for sure. You’d lose speed and cornering obviously but gain stability & deck space /storage galore. In the mini skiff world stability is key. But if you still need the speed , just put a 30-40 on there it’ll be fine lol. I dig the content though. Is trailblazers & out of the box thinkers make the world go round. 👍
Love watching innovators at work. Really enjoyed your whole process. As long as some big old gator does not deside to use it for a sunning platform you aught to be golden.
I wonder how it'd go with more horsepower, haha. A tiller steer 90 would be mental on this thing. Jokes aside, this is such an awesome project. You really thought outside of the box with this build.
I would like to recommend putting 2 strips of foam on both sides of the inside of the hull. Other than that maybe a fish finder but Being in florida it's mostly sight fishing anyways. Perfect rig and honestly my favorite vessel of the year already.
I freaking love it! The PVC plates the coolers use. Any way you could lengthen them and concave the bottom to give the sides more planing effect and less drag? Wow, like I don't have enough projects for the summer! Now you've got me thinking about buying a jet ski with a trashed motor. LOL! I'm looking forward more videos!
Thanks man, yeah I should have mounted the coolers more level also. At a certain point I got tired of all the work and was just trying to finish it. Thanks for watching the video
Honestly you need to build more like it. I want to get into kayaking but hate sitting while I fish. With something like this, you can do and go wherever you want to
@@JoeOceansidethe cooler idea was smart, could you actually fill those up with fish or drinks? haha. honestly might not be a bad idea to set up one as a livewell too
this is an insane amount of labor/work that you need to include into the total cost of this.. It really is a cool finished little sneaker though! I would love one of these around here!
Very cool! Im thinking of building something similar for fishing and duck hunting possibly. Probably going to go with a mud motor instead of an outboard but your video has been really helpful with hull and topside ideas!
This is just Bad A$$ .... every bit of it ... and ty for the link to the autoboar .. I need it for my Bass tracker ... saved me over 2k ... you rock .. so does TB Nation .. I also follow them ... New Sub here ..
Hi Joe. Great video. I have a Porta-bote 12’. What you need are Maxie marine hydro lifts. They are inexpensive. Instant plane and stability. Have a good one!!
Dude, I love this craft. As you get older, you lose the speed at which you recover from a rapid action like when you're skateboarding and a rock stops one wheel. You can run off the skateboard and stop yourself from eating pavement. As you get older however, you eat pavement until you finally give up skateboards. That craft is not for me, but in my 20s-30s it would have been awesome. Great video
I genuinely believe it's fantastic! I would love to create something similar myself. I encourage you to produce more of these and consider sharing them with your subscribers, like me. 😂 On a serious note, I think there’s great potential in producing additional items to sell.
I'm not going to lie...thats pretty badazz! Now, the "outriggers" you could've used chickenwire and epoxy/fiberglass as well. BKS Creations (I think he's from Thailand) built a little boat with chickenwire and fiberglass, lol. Awesome work!
Thanks man, yeah I could have done that part a little better, but i was trying to finish this cause it too along time. Thanks for watching glad you liked it
Leave the fuel tank to run the outboard nice and low down and well forward with a filler and lines like it was designed to feed an engine conveniently. Fill in all of the jet pump hole flush with the back for more buoyancy at the back to get on the plane easier. The bulkhead would have added strength to the deck and it could be thinner. A inset cockpit below the deck would make it stable and add strength
@@JoeOceanside It used to be a jetski! You are correct the trolling motor will double the value. Excellent workmanship though! I would buy a boat if you built it from scratch! If I had money LOL You are obviously are a very skilled fabricator and I don't mean any disrespect. It sort of like the gold rush guys... spend a million dollars to make a millions dollars. Catch22. LOL
This is awesome// but you always want to sand it down to break the fibers of the hull to attach new fiber glass if not you take a chance of the new fiber glass not fully connecting correctly to the old body // I did repairs on helicopters in military// always want everything stuck together// just giving you a heads up other than that awesome project
"I'm going to cut all of these cables" Cutting a cable that's not connected to anything. I would have built divided compartments under each hatch and then used a 2 part foam and filled in the gaps with the foam. It will definitely prevent it from sinking and you will still have compartment space for tackle.
That's a good idea, I had enough foam in it to keep it floating. I didn't want to compartmentalize it cause then I could not fit long things into the hull like a paddle and my stick pump. But that would have been cool like you said too
You seem decent at working with glass. I would split and widen the hull another foot of width would make it far.more stable. Add some adjustable sponsons. Maybe steal the idea that fishing kayaks used about 7-10 years ago. It longer, or next build buy that crazy long season 3 seater.from the 90's! Either way you earned a sub bro! Keep at it!
The jet ski hull already had stabilizers that stick out a few inches. They only really help at higher speed. I had to get a little extreme and give her a wide stance to compensate for making the standing deck so high. Thanks for watching the video!
Build the cooler inside add navigation lights for nighttime use and you could add lights to the back and the side so you can lay out the water and up in the front so you can also look up the water and add a seat for more comfort and Still keep the trolling motor
Have some graphics company make you some decals saying "PRO Fisherman (your name)" and some smaller ones that say "ZEBCO". THEN buy you some cheap Zebco rod and reel combo and go to a lake that is having a Pro fishing tournament. Then catch a few small fish of any species and TRY to get the tournament people to weigh them for you! Bring your own "FIRST PLACE" trophy! 😎🎣
you were onto something, then you put coolers on the sides. omg, lol. you went from sugar to Miss in an instant. With the amount of work you are willing to devote into a project, stick with the skis, but try making a pontoon of 2 skis.
Dude, start a company and sell plans. Someone will, if you don't. If you're really driven, build them and sell them. If it takes off, some company will buy it. Just out of curiosity, do you use the coolers for their intended pupose? If so, how do their increased weight affect stability and handling? Awesome idea/s and execution. Great video. Thanks!
lol I like your style man. I think I would have tried to keep more of the original hull intact. prob have left the factory flooring and placed the deck on top of that, might be lower in the boat. more stable maybe.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Old School is a legend
Yeah for real. Thanks for watching

Yeah, all those combined would probably make it way more stable. If I do it again, that's what I will do
Not enought even the jet sky had the motor on the bottom of the boat
Dudes a trend setter! You watch theres going to be a bunch of these around in no time!
Not gonna lie, I might be a copycat 😂
I have been building one for a year and been left in my shed. I tried to over think the transom, but seeing this I am going tomorrow to finish it
I know I’ll be keeping my eye out for junk jets skis now that’s for sure! Lol thanks 😉
Very Impressive video. You are a real thinker and I enjoyed the build of this unit. Old School needs a raise. - Ric Roberts
Thanks brother, can we go fill the coolers with reds 😁
And yes, I am going to double Old Skools salary after this 🤣
Well done mate. The ultimate recycling project that kept a lot of nasty junk out of the landfill.

If you add some ballast to it it will greatly improve your stability, it was designed to be stable but removing all the weight from it changed the center of gravity, try adding some weight where the motor used to be.
Yeah it could help a bit but I don't think it would counteract the high deck height and moving 100 lbs of motor up and to the rear
One helluva intro to your channel! You're old man looks like a TON of fun. Amazing build.

Florida man… no seriously, I love this thing. I am gonna start looking for a hull so I can make one myself.
Nice finished project but I’d recommend lengthening that trailer tongue to make it easier to get on/off the trailer.
