Most of us are not watching this for the quality of the audio but the quality of the craftsmanship. Why anyone would expect to listen to the audio in this form of video in stereo defies my comprehension. Keep your money in your pocket ,you and Diane are doing a great job
@johnswain1092 true enough but this has only been the last few videos.... as to stereo, the video is produced in stereo so one channel for each hear... it seems one channel is not making it into video thus on my headphones there is only audio in one hear... as a guy with reduced hearing in the first place, lose of sound in the other hear is a problem... not an inconvenience. Could be just a setting got switched in the editing software or some setting in the upload to YT, who knows, but when there is verbiage, I want to hear it and it's now harder to do so.
I tend to disagree: for foreign listener, with a deteriorating hearing, stereo is invaluable to keep the explanations understandable. When the narrative comes through one ear only, I loose track. The videos are of course very interesting nonetheless.
I tend to blame wax in an ear, hearing aid acting up or headphone problems. Today with no headphones (because it is only the cat and I in the house) I have no in and out/ side to side. I guess if I was playing it on a sophisticated stereo system it would be noticeable. Never been tempted to stop playing a session due to the audio.
I always wear headphones when watching. I never noticed the audio changes until you mentioned it. Sometimes when you change camera angles the sound does change. Oh well, I am more interested in what you are saying, than what it sounds like. 👍👍❤️
Mr. Dave, just keep doing what you are doing, I can hear what you say. No matter the coach, wagon, or implement we appreciate your work on repair and restorations.
There’s an expression that says “don’t look a gift horse in the mouth”. If I was paying top dollar to watch your work I’d expect one level of audiovisual performance, but I’m not. I get to glimpse into your fascinating world for FREE! every week. I, and the vast majority of those who regularly watch, have come to take a peek over your shoulder as you tackle the restoration of various horse drawn vehicles while treating us to a little of the almost forgotten history that allowed those who struggled to make a home in what was a wilderness. I follow along, from the comfort of my armchair, round about 4500 miles away, and am grateful for each and every one of your videos.
Exactly. When I was a kid I would have made the most menial jobs in a shop just to be around the guys that made the stuff I was interested in - electronics, computers. Not many occasions came along but that was the truth.
Audio is always good for me, I was a career motorcycle mechanic for 48 years. I got started watching your videos with the Borax wagons. I find that your videos are ASMR for me ,very relaxing and informative as well as you Sir are a genius with your tools and skills. Great channel and content!!!
audio does change ears occasionally but that does nothing to put me off from watching a master craftsman at work. I just noticed, you even have the nuts and screw slots going the same direction, true genius
Another channel I watch had the left channel disappear intermittently recently. I wonder if RUclips has had some processing issues recently… I really enjoy your content, Dave!
Dave and watchers, I was one person who noticed I the audio dropping out. The reason I noticed it is because I wear ear phones, maybe straight speakers it would not be noticed as much. I like 99.9%of your watchers are here to see what you are going but I also enjoy your narration. Please keep them coming.
I also listen through earphones and the audio is definitely not as good as it used to be. The stereo/mono moves about. I hear an inbalance on my phones to the right ear, then it moves back to the centre. Still superb videos to watch though.
I too have never had any issues with your sound. But I must say you are a perfectionist and that is what your job calls for. Thank you for everything you do. You sure you didn't time travel from the past to the present?
I too have never had a problem with your audio. While I appreciate your dedication to providing content that is exceptional, you have no apologies to make for the audio, or any other 'technical' glitches people might notice. You are a very skilled craftsman who has given us hours of pleasure and imparted a knowledge that is in danger of passing away with the modern era. You are to be congratulated for the work that you do, not the least of which are the uncounted hours you spend editing this content. I just want you to know that your efforts are appreciated and I am very grateful to have learned a great deal from you. Please, keep up the good work sir. You are a craftsman of the first water!
I have a friend who is an electrician. He was doing a job where I worked a few years ago and I was nearby. I noticed that when he put a switch plate on he lined the screw slots up vertically. I made a comment about it and he said that was his way to do it, pay attention to the details. I had never thought about it before that now it is something I pay attention to. Paying attention to the little details is one of the signs of high quality. People who do this kind of work are the ones to learn from. I'm always amazed at your creations and recreations. Look forward to each of your videos.
Sorry to say that the audio goes from mono in the right ear then to stereo in both ears through out the video but that won't stop me from watching. Thanks for sharing this video today . Really awesome how easily you make all the work you do look so easy, after you show it being done it really is easy. Stay safe and we will be here for the next one. Fred and family.
Year growth ligament. As the iron plate is very short due to the limited space, those holes come awfully close to one another. When they are lined up, the wood piece becomes fragile. When stacked diagonally the holes break different year growth ligaments, and if the spread is wide enough, there's intact layers in between the holes giving more strength to the wooden piece.
Whether it's OCD or level of your craftsmanship, I applaud your attention to detail!!! The finish of the screw and nut placement is what level you are at. Well done my friend!!!!
What these armchair producers ,who complain about everything ,should realize is that the people who make these videos are just regular people like the ones who watch the videos. They aren't multi million dollar production corp. So just sit back and enjoy the effort that is put into the video because it's for your enjoyment not your critique. I for one do enjoy your effort Dave and Diane. Thank you for that effort. Your craftmanship is amazing. Bob . Michigan
Thanks Dave, I enjoy watching you work. You pay a lot of attention to detail as I do so that makes it even more enjoyable. I believe our work should be as close to perfect as possible.
All of the irons on this stagecoach are so interesting, I wonder if this was all designed by trial & error in the past or if there were wagon engineers that tested different designs until they found the one that worked the best? Just the fact that Dave can piece it all together and build a story of all the effort and ingenuity that went into these is absolutely awesome
I just love watching your vision and skills on clear display Dave. I also remember you making the leather vest you're wearing in every video. Looks as good today as it did when you made it. Hoping 2025 keeps you well.
The audio is not a major issue for me, but I do hear problems when I listen using headphones. On this video the first 3:10 sound like mono in my left ear, and then at 3:11 it switches to sound like mono in my right ear. I can take out one earbud and confirm that the audio is actually in stereo, but the balance is off enough to make it sound like mono to my brain (when it is actually stereo with side is 10x louder than the other side) Love watching your videos.
I have not noticed any problems with your audio. I too watch this feed to watch a skilled master craftsman do his thing. So from my perspective you are satisfying my needs.
Hi Dave. The audio quality does seem to change from time to time but it does nothing to diminish my fascination with the quality of your work and the myriad of skills that you possess and demonstrate.
In another hundred years, unless someone does a test on those irons you make, people will think that they are original irons. I just love your attention to detail. You are a very talented man and provide a lot of satisfaction to a 75 year old man who is still very active. Thanks for all you do!!
I've never had an issue with audio but even if I did, it would still be wonderful to watch you share the thought process, you go through on restoration/reconstruction. I greatly appreciate what you do!
I also noticed the sound going to mono. Now, while watching today's segment, the sound was mono on the right side of my headphones. Just before the end of the third minute of the program, the sound went stereo and remained that way to the end. As always, mono or stereo I greatly appreciate your programs and look forward to them every week.
I am fascinated by the angled bolts. Someone had a brilliant mind back when this was originally built, and solved a complex problem with a simple solution that is easily replicated here (and whenever repairs would have been needed). It is also amazing how much the iron bracing adds to the overall integrity of the vehicle.
I'm an old carpenter from Florida and I'm having at this time a hearing issue in my right ear. I watch videos at my desk with headphones. Speakers in my shop. At the start of this video, the left channel is no sound, so the right channel is muffled for me. I'm not complaining, just trying to offer some feedback. So throughout the video, there are other issues that are not so important to point out, but there are problems. Without being there, it would be hard to find out what the problem is. I can only suggest experimenting with things to track down the gremlin. I like the content and I believe you would like it to be as good as possible. Thanks for all you do!
Hello. I watch your Videos from South Yorkshire in the UK. The quality the sound and clarety of the pictures is always very good. Also the Clarety of your soothing voice is easier to listen to than our UK English. Keep up the good work.
Dear Dave, I love your videos. Regarding your audio, I think people have to realize that what you are producing is historical, to be referred to when someone is rebuilding one of these treasures. It is important that you are heard clearly because 10 years 50 years from now they will want to know exactly what you are saying. This is encyclopedic information. Thank you for the perfection with which you do everything !
The audio changes when the phone is rotated from portrait to landscape if you are viewing on an iPhone. Counterclockwise rotation to landscape the audio changes to single ear stereo, and it becomes really quiet. Clockwise rotation landscape brings the audio back to mono. Hope this helps and great channel as always!
I am not complaining, just providing data to help solve the audio problem if desired. I imagine Mr Engles would be unhappy if both sides went out during a long recording session, so I point out the problem to be helpful. I work in electronics, and I have saying: “90% of the time it’s connections”. I suspect a mic connector going bad or not fully inserted. Moving the camera between scenes may jiggle it into (or out of) place. For me, on an iPhone with Bluetooth earbuds: Video starts out with good right side and no left. At scene change at about 3:13 the left side comes in weakly and seems to vary a bit (right still fine) At scene change at about 4:04 left comes in fine (right still good). Left side goes out a few more times during the video but these examples should suffice.
Another great episode on the carriage. If you get the time, read about the Peshtigo Wisconsin (and upper Michigan) fire. Started on the same day (October 8th, 1871) as the Chicago fire but was more destructive. It didn't receive the "big city" hype at the time. Very interesting stories there as well.
I watch for the craftsmanship, not the audio. Since you mentioned the issue, I noticed that there was an audio change when the scene changed at at 3:10. Before, the sound was a bit muffled but after, it became more clear. Anyway, thanks for all your great videos.
Hey Dave,I just came home from a roadtrip through rural Australia .I visited this preserved farm in South-Eastern Victoria that has heaps of 19th century farm wagons and some truly terrifyingly dangerous looking horse or bullock drawn equipment.Mowers, seed spreaders, threshers and god knows what else. If you fell off the metal seat into the thrashing iron-mongery, you would have been toast. Thanks to your videos, I reeling off the names of reaches, reach-hounds, felows, spokes and hubs. The wheels was huge 4 or 5 feet diameter with 4 x 1 inch tyres. I tut-tutted at the poor workmanship they used on the preservation .They welded tabs on the tyre to stop it falling of the wheel. They were Borax Wagon looking wheels.I can appreciate the strength and skill required to fit the felows on those massive, thick, oval, spokes. But due to lack of funds, it is the best they can do.I loved this farm.
Mr. Engels I've been producing video for television and later, the internet since 1980. Your craftsmanship is so captivating that I hardley notice the audio. I think it is just fine for your channel. Maybe an audiophile could find fault, but not me. Are there variations? Sure. So what? You don't need claperboards and high end audio sync, unless you just want to. In fact, I've become quite impressed with your production quality. Most recently your stop action, or stop motion photography and editing was impressive. I'm guessing you use a one camera setup. I watch at 1080p and sometimes with enhanced bit rate. Cameras and mics are just tools. Look what you accomplish with very ordinary, and somewhat rudimentary tools! Far better 'product' than many others with state of the art, high $$ gear. You do an excellent job and produce above average quality content. Let the RUclips certified experts carp. Most of us out here on the innerwebs appreciate your work.
Brother Engels it might also be RUclips . I’ve had fading in and out on a couple of channels. Sometimes it goes silent for a few seconds. Love watching.
I have never seen this audio issue in any of your videos. I know I can create it on my end watching on mobile, by changing the quality to lower, but I have it set to higher quality to view. You never know what you might miss in a corner if not. I'm looking forward to this series,
The audio for this video was fine. Keep doing whatever you did this time. On a different note, you go to great extremes to match the historic build to the smallest detail. I wonder if the craftsmen of the day cared as you do on the finish and finish of every part? I'm betting they were happy to get the wagon built and out the door, more than the fit and finish. You are building true museum-quality reproductions! Thanks for the history lessons.
Happy New Year to you and your family Dave. My work habits on helicopters, which I’ve done for a long time, are like yours. I’m slow, methodical and try to think through the process and figure things out before I start doing them. Our one big advantage over you is that we are mandated to follow certain procedures that are written down and amended on a regular basis. Your videos are some of the most enjoyable on RUclips and I hope that you carry on for a long time. Thank You So Much
I'm glad you mentioned the audio, I thought I'd lost my left ear 🤣. The mic is obviously the issue, but I think it's placement rather than the unit. It was apparent in frame 19:17 when you bent over. Hopefully you can save the expense of another mic. I know this sounds pedantic but I taught journalism for 20 years and had a side gig as an audio engineer in a recording studio so this sort of thing comes as second nature. Having said that I'd enjoy your work if you used a tin can on a piece of string. We love your work and thanks for all your time and effort.
Great video as always,I never had a issue with your audio,or your video quality and I have been watching you for years,so no apologies needed on your part as far as I’m concerned.just continue putting out the great content that you do.just keep on doing your thing.be safe 👍👍👍😎😎😎
A Happy New Year to both you Dave and Diane. Don't sweat the audio just keep doing what you do best and that is the Master Class in Wainwrighting, Wheelwrighting and Wood working Thank you and all the best.
Greetings from Germany... Sir I watch your channel on a regular basis, even as I type and listen your audio is 'In & Out'. However like one of you viewers I agree, I'm not here for top quality audio but rather for your content. Never the less you are aware and in time I am confident that you will be able to improve. Mean while keep doing what you do and I along with many others will enjoy your videos.
Good afternoon I watch you for your shop work. Seeing how all these different wagons were designed and made are just amazing. You got me back into my shop thank you.
It's so nice to see someone doing this kind of work with "acoustic" tools. Too many times today you see folks using power tools for everything... especially impact drivers. That said, seeing you use a regular flat blade screwdriver on the screws that held the irons to the wood pieces... do you suppose the old timers would have used a Brace to drive those in?
Can't say I've ever had any problems with audio on any of your video either most recent or historical. Really enjoying these stagecoach videos. Happy New Year to yourself & Dianne. Stay safe & well.
Have been enjoying your videos for years. Look forward to Tuesday and Friday. Jus t used something I learned by watching you to convert a j hook into a triangular ceiling hanger for some duct work I am working on revising. Many of the techniques you use to transfer dimensions I remember watching my father and grandfathers use. Truly educational. Thank you..
...........G'day Dave and Dianne; Happy New Year. I have been enjoying your videos for many years and have not noticed any problems with sound from my speakers. Some time ago I was using head-phones and had some weird things happen that I traced to the head=phone jack. Cheers and God bless, Malcolm.
Your audio content and your videos are just magic MAGIC ,,,,,some times audio goes mono, stereo and back ,But long may we be able to hear you .Thank you for taking the time to put together these videos and sharing with all of us .Manny thanks and a happy new year to 😊😊😊😊😊you
Happy New Year and thanks for sharing your amazing creativity. Look forward to enhancing my days with your videos. No problems with your audio or video, ever.
Happy new year Dave and Diane ☺, thanks for another interesting video mate, the bending of the coach bolts worked out a treat, and they fitted real flat just like you wanted. Best wishes to you and Diane, Stuart and Megan UK.
Right around 3:11 it switches from right mono to stereo, then fades away again after a few seconds. 3:20 I hear a static blip and then it’s back to right mono
As others have noticed. Right channel only until 3:12 then when the video cuts to a new scene - stereo for the balance of the video. At the 4:03 scene cut almost the same, but muddled left channel on scene before 4:02 and full stereo after 4:03 and new scene. Appears to be related to individual scene recordings. I wear headphones and have noticed the same one channel sound issue before. BTW - Fun to see the different angles on the bent bolts. Who wooda thunk? Makes me smile at the differences.
Not sure if this helps on your check for audio, but I noticed that the start of the video was mono (right only) but at 3:16 in the video, it switched to stereo (right & left), at least for me. Anyway, God bless you for your work and sharing it with all of us.
Maybe a clue to the audio issue. I listen to your videos through Bluetooth directly to my hearing aids. This video had no left audio until about the 4.00 minute mark. That’s where your subject changed from plates to bolts. After that full sound. Thanks for the new project.
Most of us are not watching this for the quality of the audio but the quality of the craftsmanship. Why anyone would expect to listen to the audio in this form of video in stereo defies my comprehension. Keep your money in your pocket ,you and Diane are doing a great job
100% with you on this, John! Thank you!

Dave seems to be the kind of guy that puts 100 percent into everything he does, and that would include the audio on his videos.

Dave always clocks the fasteners to be square with the wood they’re on. Apparently, it’s a thing in horse drawn vehicles.
Another channel I watch had the left channel disappear intermittently recently. I wonder if RUclips has had some processing issues recently…
I really enjoy your content, Dave!
started off in right ear then went stereo @3:12...

Audio and camera work always perfect for me. Never missed a word and can even see rhe threads on your bolts. 🎉

Mr & Mrs Engel, once again, thank you for creating this video masterclass and preserving a very important part of America's history
Dall'Italia: Non conosco la vostra lingua nei dettagli,ma con gli occhi vedo bene e vedo moltissimo, grazie Dave e Diane!
Sorry to say that the audio goes from mono in the right ear then to stereo in both ears through out the video but that won't stop me from watching. Thanks for sharing this video today . @PendeltonWhiskey 😅
Thank you, Bob.
Learned many "tricks and tips" while watching your videos, sound is not a problem for me.
Dave, I see you were wounded by a Comanche warrior while wearing the vest ! ......it adds character! Love your show !
Thanks Dave, I enjoy watching you work. You pay a lot of attention to detail as I do so that makes it even more enjoyable. I believe our work should be as close to perfect as possible.

That's called "Artistic OCD" I experience that quite regularly in my Luthier's Shop!
No need to be sorry your videos are still great

I agree, the audio is fine. Your skill and attention to detail is an inspiration. The best of luck in the new year.
Thank you.
Brother Engels it might also be RUclips . I’ve had fading in and out on a couple of channels. Sometimes it goes silent for a few seconds. Love watching.
I did notice the difference in the sound this time, but I think I will survive. Nice job Dave.
I have never seen this audio issue in any of your videos. I know I can create it on my end watching on mobile, by changing the quality to lower, but I have it set to higher quality to view. You never know what you might miss in a corner if not. I'm looking forward to this series,
Dave you are the ultimate gentlemen. Wanting to please the fuzziest of your viewers.
We are watching to see you make Silk purses out of Sows ears.
As a life long wood worker I enjoy your skills with wood and steel . Great job, keep up the great work. I will be watching .
I'm looking forward to another year of these very enjoyable videos. Wishing you and your entire family a very happy, healthy, and wonderful New Year.
Great video as always,I never had a issue with your audio,or your video quality and I have been watching you for years,so no apologies needed on your part as far as I’m concerned.just continue putting out the great content that you do.just keep on doing your thing.be safe 👍👍👍😎😎😎
Always amazed how you single handedly perform.
A Happy New Year to both you Dave and Diane. Don't sweat the audio just keep doing what you do best and that is the Master Class in Wainwrighting, Wheelwrighting and Wood working Thank you and all the best.
I haven't noticed the sound issues but I'm not that critical. I enjoy your work.
What a joy! Every Friday night!! Thank you sir!
Good afternoon I watch you for your shop work. Seeing how all these different wagons were designed and made are just amazing. You got me back into my shop thank you.
Buon Anno Nuovo ❤
Audio is fine 👍👌 just keep doing what you are doing 😊❤🙏
I have no problem with your audio or video. Enjoying this build and am sure it turns out as well as it has started.
Watching and listening to you in Wales and have no problem.
Haven’t had a problem with the audio so keep doing it just the way it’s been. Glad you’re getting the wagon figured out.
I think it’s got to do with premium on u tube or one with commercials, I don’t have any issue while watching.❤😊👍. Dave I truly enjoy watching.
I have no problems with your audio, or video, after spending so many years around piston and jet engines. Keep up the excellent work.
Can't say I've ever had any problems with audio on any of your video either most recent or historical.
Really enjoying these stagecoach videos.
Happy New Year to yourself & Dianne.
Stay safe & well.
Love the content and not worried about the sound quality. Keep doing what you’re doing!
Thank you..
Thank you Dave. May you and yours have a Blessed New Year. I haven't had any issues with your audio. God Bless to all.
You are just a wizard with those clamps
No issues with the Audio here. Just enjoying the craftsmanship
Thanks for sharing I didn’t notice the audio until you mentioned it
I can attest that when listening on earphones, having one channel missing is hard to take.
This is not a blockbuster movie you are watching but a video about the work of a highly talented craftsman.
I use the SoundFixer addon for firefox/chrome to get clean mono audio on both ears.
If you have issues with the sound for these videos.. turn off "Spacial Sound"
audio sounds good to me, i watch all your videos
...........G'day Dave and Dianne; Happy New Year.
I have been enjoying your videos for many years and have not noticed any problems with sound from my speakers. Some time ago I was using head-phones and had some weird things happen that I traced to the head=phone jack.
Cheers and God bless,
Malcolm.
Your audio content and your videos are just magic MAGIC ,,,,,some times audio goes mono, stereo and back ,But long may we be able to hear you .Thank you for taking the time to put together these videos and sharing with all of us .Manny thanks and a happy new year to 😊😊😊😊😊you
I hear you perfectly all right, although I must be honest, I’m concentrating more on your manual skills.
Audio is awesome. Thank you for all that you do and share.
Your skills never fail to amaze.
Happy New Year and thanks for sharing your amazing creativity. Look forward to enhancing my days with your videos. No problems with your audio or video, ever.
Can't say I have noticed any problems with the audio. Just keep on making videos, please. Thanks Dave!
Audio is fine just enjoy watching an artist.
Audio is good on my end. Thanks!
Happy new year Dave and Diane ☺, thanks for another interesting video mate, the bending of the coach bolts worked out a treat, and they fitted real flat just like you wanted. Best wishes to you and Diane, Stuart and Megan UK.
Today I am only getting the right channel. Not a problem.
Thanks Dave
Hello Dave.
I'm late, but still all the best in the new year. I wish you much success happiness and health.
