A 1700s potato Christmas Kissing Ball DIY, Creating an Old World Christmas

- I went old school, like late 1700s New England old school, and made an easy DIY Christmas kissing ball with a potato for our home! For more old world traditional Christmas decorations, I also made another Traditional Christmas wreath for our home's front door with faux fruit, but that was after spending some time in the yard trimming boxwood and evergreens for these projects.

I just absolutely love your ideas Linda! I love that you have so much to collect right off your own property. This video was so enjoyable! I really like your rustic property.
Merry Christmas to my favorite New Englander! 🕯 🎄
In the little town near me, New Castle in Delaware , many of the churches, public buildings and residences are decorated with kissing balls and fruit decorated wreaths. The local garden club does the decorating. I have never grown tired of the style. I have a fruit laden wreath my mother made over forty ears ago. Here we called it Williamsburg style. At that time she dipped the plastic greens in a "dip" comprised of varnish and bronzing powder to give them a more natural look. Your video brings back many good memories of making decorations with my mother.
I have twenty acres of wooded land behind my house that my neighbor owns. I rarely venture in there because the terrain is a little hard to navigate plus fear of snakes in the summer. You inspired me to go into the forest to gather pine, holly, and magnolia to decorate my nativity scene and kitchen counters today. Beautiful video. Thank you.
I must try these ideas! Our home as the colonial look with tall pillars and small paned windows. I love this style.
Lol, we made these when the kids were small, I had no idea it was called a kissing ball! My boys would have loved that! Hugs and love from Texas!
I LOVE that Kissing Ball! 💋🌿🥔🕯️🎄. It adds such Festivity! 🎅🤶
Both kissing ball and fruit wreath are lovely. The kissing ball brings back memories of my mom 🥲 she had and hung them them every year at Christmas. Thanks again Linda. Love how your home is coming.
I love everything you do and really enjoyed watching you make the kissing ball and fruit wreath. You have already made your beautiful house into a lovely warm and hygge home!!!!!! ❤️
I grew up not far from a 'Boy's Home", located in Chino Hills, CA. They made the most beautiful wreaths, the Della Robbia Wreaths that appear to be the "other" coast's rendition of a colonial wreath! All are just beautiful!!
I love the soft music you have playing as you cut your Green’s.
I always look forward to a new video. Keep the ideas coming girlfriend.
As always enjoyed our visit 😃 you have such a fun way of enjoying everything life has to offer and make lovely things out of the ordinary. Your property looks so pretty with some snow. I'm really falling in love with your new home and grounds. Thank you for sharing it all with us. ❤
Thank you Linda love the idea of
the kissing ball.. haven’t used that idea in a while. Evergreens are a must at Christmas!! Beautiful🎄❤️
Once again I'm jealous of your snow. Very cute kissing ball!
Love and appreciate the classic New England style. I grew up in a home built by my parents which was similar. My mother had spent a year in Boston and loved the architecture.
Watching your videos has become one of my favorite things to do this time of the year. Also excited today to have just received my first “Kindred Spirit “ holiday greetings card for this year. Thank you, Christine!!
Linda thank YOU for starting such a lovely tradition for us.😊
Thank you for the kissing ball tutorial and your wreath looks great. The ribbon is so pretty with you door color♥️
Love how passionate you are in decorating and creating things that come from the past. You love nature, antique and so much more. It’s always great to see your videos I really enjoy them. Thanks 🙏 for sharing and teaching us new ways to do things. Happy Holidays 🎄💕
Good morning Linda wow you’re so creative love the kissing potato ball and the Christmas wreath . I love watching your channel it takes me back when I was growing up thank you for sharing and God bless you and your family have a great weekend.
Love love the colonial fruit wreath! I will be adding this to honor my ancestors! Hugs and love from Texas!
Sounds wonderful!
Linda, you are so lucky to have all the greens in your yard. We live in Arizona - no need to say more😂. Mandy from Tucson🌵
I can't wait to see how the kissing ball does over time. It is so different. I really like it. It was so funny that you sipped on eggnog during your crafting -- I was sipping on mine too, but I added a little cranberry liquor to mine!😊
Enjoyed this so very much. I haven't made a kissing ball in 30 years, but I might try again this year!. Thank you for such nice ideas. 🎄👵🏡
Have fun. It’s like riding a bike!
Linda, the timing was perfect on this video today. I am decorating this afternoon and I have never made a kissing ball..I am going out in the garden and collecting my greenery because this year I will be making a few. Thanks, as always, for the wonderful inspiration.👍🎄🌲..Liz❤️
Wonderful! have Fun Liz!
Two videos this week! Such a treat! Posted to Facebook friends.
Yay! Thank you!
Both the kissing ball and wreath are beautiful!
Enjoyed the tutorials and greens gathering. I am not in the market for any of this but still love it. Also loved dads coat. WITH MUCH AFFECTION MJ
It's great to watch your tutorials. You explain every step in such an easy way and I will try to make the kissing ball for us as well as gifts to my friends. Need to buy a foam ball because I want to use it outside. I live in the forest so I can get many natural things to decorate but need to be careful placing food outside because the birds and other criters do visit my decorations!!
By all means please show us how to decorate with real ivy. I have a lot in my property and I am sure some of your subscribers may find it helpful. Thank you for these two projects and hope you have a nice weekend and a blessed Advent.🌲
Linda, loved both projects! Using nature to create such beautiful items is so inspiring! Both are perfect in your new home.

I hope you don't mind me using you as a New England Guide. My husband has kidnapped me from Georgia and brought me here to the Berkshires. Having to re-educate my gardening skills adapt to the cold and buy a new wardrobe. I was so happy to see your peonies!
I don't mind at all! I have been to the Berkshires many times and it is a beautiful area, but very different from Georgia for sure!

Linda, thank you so much for these tutorials on the kissing ball and colonial fruit wreath. I have learned so much from you and always look forward to all of your videos. I live in Southwest Florida but I love decorating in early colonial style. Have a wonderful weekend! 🎄❤️
Barbara me too! a little south of Tampa but love NE style!
I didn't know they used a potato. I have a potato and a backyard full of greens. I'm going to make one for a hostess gift. Thanks Linda! 🌲
So traditional and classy! Where’s Willow? I like seeing Willow running outside and helping you with whatever you do.
She was playing with all of the contractors and keeping Ben company.
Linda, the kissing ball is adorable. I love your Christmas wreath too. Thank you for sharing great decorating ideas for inspiration. Have a great day!
Your decor and home are beautiful.
The fresh snow on the ground looks so Christmassy. I live in NC and we rarely get snow.
Enjoy all your videos....you are a very eloquent lady with classic, timeless tastes.
I enjoyed the video and the wreath and kissing ball are beautiful! In the 50s-60s, one of my sisters made a kissing ball. She used two rims from Crisco cans, interlocked them, covered with tinsel and added Christmas balls and ribbon. It was so beautiful! Thanks for the memory!💕🌲
Ribbon is lovely
Linda the fruit wreath reminds me of Williamsburg, VA. at Christmas time, which I love! That is how I decorated my Fairfax, VA home. We're at the beach now so my style has changed a bit but I still love the New England look! Thanks for your videos I enjoy them 🙂
Loved your video.....very calming and relaxing, with lots of great ideas. Love and appreciate your creativity. Thank your for continuing to film through all your construction/renovation work. Everything is beautiful and classy, as you are! :) ~~M~~
Your videos are always so informative AND relaxing. The kissing ball and wreath are gorgeous! And you always have the BEST music!!!
