Broken Shore 2.0 is happening in the war within and it looks like the sacrifices might be just as big as they were back in Legion. There are heavy hints that we are going to get a Varian type cinematic for Khadgar as he might perish in the battle against Xal'atath. Dalaran has been brought down by nerubian webs as it crashes on the shores of Khaz'Alagar. There we fight a giant Nerubian army led by Xal'atath personally, a ton of old characters return and it is just one big crazy mess.
However that is just the start of giant and I mean giant spoilers from the alpha. We learn what the light crystal is, we connect Xal'atath with K'aresh, we learn more about world souls, we finally get actual reveals on who Xal'atath is and there is just so much stuff to unravel. So let's look at all the War within alpha information, datamined models, datamined items and hints and let's unravel this giant event that will start the next expansion.

Yes, I do personally. They are reaching into that bag like Legion did. Pulling out those emotional gut punches, letting us know from the jump that the stakes are high and that no one is truly safe from this new lurking threat among us. People truly complaining about it are IMO, being doomers just like how there's always that group of the people that wanna assume everything is going to be done wrong. And I for once, seeing the devs talk about it, the concepts, the direction they are going, and seeing the content a bit myself, I personally have pretty high hopes and faith that the World Soul Saga will be WoW/Blizzards true redemption arc personally. DF was moving in the right direction finally, but The World Soul Saga I think is gonna be even better in so many ways.
If this is true, my problem with Dalaran crashing is the same issue I have when they make changes to old world content that is not well connected. E.g. Lorderan/Undercity, Silithus old/Silithus now, etc. When you make a change in lore that eliminates a place where new players will play, you create a huge dischord with the WOW universe. There has to be a better way to do this then what they are currently doing.
Plot twist, they think he stayed in Dalaran when it was blown up, but he transforms into a bird and surprises everyone later.
So Khadgar will have to choose a Covenant now

Xal'atath taking down Dalaran reminds me a bit of Garrosh bombing Theramore. Gathering a good chunk of important leaders or otherwise powerful individuals then taking them all out in one decisive strike
Yeah I'm almost certain this is the plan and she is also baiting us to come to Khaz'Algar where her nerubian army is.
Here's hoping they can pull off something akin to WotLK with Arthas having a seemingly omnipotent presence throughout our journey using the Nerubians tunneling capabilities

This makes me angry. Khadgar was supposed to hook up with Naleida Rivergleam. Remember ate the start of Dragonflight how she remarked he was a "Handsome Wizard". They robbed Khadgar of a life, wife and family.
Someone else commented that it might have to do with the voice actor retiring soon (he's 72 yeard old). Khadgars voice is so iconic I feel like nobody can replace it. Look what they did to Kaelthas, no offense but his new voice actor can't compare to the original

It ticks me off that they are doing another beloved character so damn dirty. Poor Khadgar...his youth was stolen by Medhiv...now his chance at happiness, love and family is stolen by the writers. If he dies, I hope its something heroic or guns blazing, not the crap that they did to Tirion.
Im still sad they had to do this to Dalaran, but this wasn't the first time they got fckd, so they'll hopefully be fine and rebuild.
Some complained that dragonflight was disneyfied hope they got what they wanted with whats been disclosed so far.
I somehow feel like Dalaran rebuilding will happen in Midnight where it once originally was.
Same thoughts as well. I kinda feel this expansion will either be a cliffhanger where we sort of lose then an instant jump to midnight (no time lapse) or a short intermission (similar to shadowlands) then open midnight with an iron horde/legion invasion like attack.

If he gets a proper send off and goes out in a way worthy of his status, I think it will really make TWW really stand out, cause it definitely takes balls to really kill off such a long standing character.
And I'd imagine Dalaran would be rebuilt eventually, there's still a giant hole where it originally stood just waiting to be filled.
And I personally am all for this tone shift in WoW, I think if WoW does things right which it has shown in the past it can with more serious and gripping moments like Vanilla - Cata and I'm all for it going back in that direction.
Not the first time Dalaran's been turned to rubble. At this point I'd imagine the mages already have a spare sitting in storage "just in case."

@@pirojfmifhghek566 it made no sense though, Tirion beat Arthas with his light power, Arthas wiped the floor with Illidan, Illidan had to get the fel power from the skull of Guldan to increase his power just a little bit to be able to go against Arthas....so punk ass Guldan should have been nothing to Tirion no matter how many demons he had beside him.

I don't think they'd kill him when there's been a future storyline with Medivh hinted at for a while now. If they do, then it's really a lost opportunity.
Blizzard is incapable of using powerful characters within the game ( Malfurion, Khadgar , Medivh ) so they have to either keep them in Limbo ( Medivh) kill or wound them so they are always in the sidelines or all of the above...
I think Medivh will return this expansion

would be weird since all lore dictates that Trolls came first then devolved into high elves then night elves and the high-elves that didn't become night elves either stayed regular elves or got corrupted by fel energy into the blood elves.
But then again the "writing" team can't write to save their lives and just retcon lore on a whimsy whether it makes sense or not.
I guess that is why they are using time travel shenanigans with Dragonflight and WoW Classic SoD so they can just say oh alternate and merging timelines as an excuse for their shitty lore changes.

Trolls > Dark Trolls (through mild exposure to Well of Eternity) > Night Elves (aka Highborne, long-term exposure to Well of Eternity) > High Elves & Blood Elves (changed after abandoning NE traditions and settling in Eastern Kingdoms, more exposure to Mana due to Sunwell. Both are virtually the same, just changed their name) > Fel Elves & Void Elves & PROBABLY "next-gen Light" Blood Elves (different evolution lines due to strong exposure to energy sources changing them to the core)

So was this the actual Dalaran from the Broken Isles, or a copy- like he did with the one from Northrend? Did anyone bop over to the Broken Isles to see if there was a duplicate Dal there still? I think they'd have a tough time re-allocating all of the functions of the Legion Dalaran to somewhere else- all the order halls, crafting etc.

I honestly believe that it should have been Jaina instead of Khadgar that died out there. Just take a moment to think about it. She saw her father die at the hands of the Horde.
She saw the city she built to harbour many refugees from Lordaeron get blown up before her very eyes.
She went full balistic on the Blood Elves when she found out about Horde machinations within Dalaran and then she was tortured for a time both in BfA when stuck in Thros and later in Shadowlads when she was in Torghast.
That woman is nothing but a walking talking tragedy. Not to mention way too powerfull. And using that vast amount of power to somewhat decrease the tragedy of Dalaran's detruction would make more sense. And have that woman some rest.
Kadghar will become the nameless wanderer without memory, just burning everything what comes in his way, till he hears the whispers again, the whispers of N'Zoth.
He dies while teleporting everyone to safety because he was given a vision that the world needed the heros. R.I.P

“Five keys to open our way. Five torches to light our path.” People thought it was about the dragons, but there are 5 council members in Dalaran if you exclude Kalec because he's busy doing super lizard stuff... Maybe Khadgar tried to fight against possession by the void.
A powerful mage could be considered a torch of sorts, and they may all possess a key that helps empower Dalaran or something.

Either Khadgar's really gone and never will return except in flashbacks or visions like Varian, or they're going to pull some twist. Medivh seems like he'll be returning at some point so rather than have Khadgar and Medivh together, it was one or the other. They chose to kill off Khadgar for the emotional gut punch and show the stakes are high, but they'll probably bring back Medivh for the opener for Midnight. Or Khadgar's going to turn into Gandalf the White and return more powerful than before as a mix of him and Medivh. Those two ideas may not be mutually exclusive as they can kill Khadgar for TWW's opening, return Medivh in the Midnight opening only to perhaps kill him by the end of it, and then bring back Khadgar 2.0 in the TLT opening. There's also Sylvanas still roaming the Maw. Her return is inevitable. Maybe she brings back a temporary Shadowlands army with her to help in Midnight or TLT. Do some Avengers Endgame-esque final battle returning a lot of lost characters to the game for a final showdown. Khadgar could then return (albeit temporarily) at that point.

Well that is unfortunately the huge plot hole Blizzard has setup with the Shadowlands. Will be interesting to see how they deal with this.
@@DoronsmoviesThey should make it impossible or very difficult for characters to go back to the Shadowlands. Death needs to be permanent or there's no stakes. And hopefully if they start killing off characters they have decent writers (Chris Metzen and co) who can replace them. Right now it feels like everyone has plot armor, killing khadgar permanently would break that illusion, I'm all for it tbh

Not going to lie it actually is good storytelling. It's better to lose some characters and have some tragic events than to have a dragon isles hug fest where everyone reunites as one big family as they defeat the villain of the week.

Of all the great characters that Blizzard has killed off, this has only happened once…. When they killed Varian and replaced him with Anduin… and even that is debatable.
@Doronsmovies it can be good storytelling. So long as there is a satisfying conclusion. They have not provided much in the way of a satisfying conclusions for many of the major characters they kill.
For instance, Saurfang had a good ending. Tirion Fordring did not. Both were loved characters. I would argue Khadgar is bigger than both of those. I think it would help if there were cinematics, short stories, and build up. Not just, "guess I'll throw my life away off screen"
Khadgar has been largely sidelined since after Legion. His loss will be greatly felt of course by players who have spent much time in the older WoW expansions. However, newer players to the game will not be quite as impacted by the loss of Khadgar.

I think it's not khadgar dying but Turalyon, he's nowhere to be found so far in anything related to war within. He and Alleria were always inseparable, but now he's gone like a ghost. It would also set up the storyline and make Alleria relate to Anduin and deepen her connection to the void with the trauma

I understand if this was datamined but Blizzard wants us to know this right now, they literally told us and showed destroyed Dalaran in the official video on the channel they released a day ago. What they are keeping encrypted is how it happens though.

Problem with killing of such characters off, is you run out of narrative storytelling since our own avatars are blank slates without a voice, so if all lore characters are killed off and it's just you, there is no story.

Khadgar's voice actor, Tony Amendola is 72 years old, so I'm wondering if he's retiring. And rather than recasting his voice actor, maybe they are just retiring the entire character. I think we all recognise his voice as being very iconic. This is purely speculation and pondering, but who knows?
Good point, he's a great voice actor but might be time for him to step down soon. Hopefully they give him a respectful ending to his character. One of the GOATS
