I like how on one of the early game demos there was build up suspense. It started off with no music and just the ambience and sound of footsteps not knowing if a car was around. Then you jump into the portal and hear eerie music and a trucks engine while running on gravel. I think every level should start off being that unnerving and to keep the player on edge for a bit before the action starts. xD But just my 2 cents.
The alley way with the sound of silence and suddenly the ice cream truck and engine starting is so creepy and well done too.
