  • Here's a clip from the latest installment of "Battleground: Rhino Wars." Building on its "Whale Wars" franchise, Animal Planet is in the middle of airing this three-part series, in which American tough guys with G.I. Joe dimensions try to stem the slaughter of endangered rhinoceroses in South Africa.
    The New York Times called aspects of the series "annoying," but said it "is also blunt and fearless about documenting the effects of poaching."

    BBC news had a story a couple of days ago saying that 2 maybe 3 rhino poachers were ambushed by a pride of lions and all that was found was some body parts a high power rifle and an axe. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

      Yes, true! I walked in to a elephant kill zone in 2008 where 9 poachers walked in to a hear of elephant. It was a bloody mess!!!

      Sorry Pauline Yu, but that is an assessment that doesn't fit here. The Chinese don't buy rhino horns cause they've been oppressed by "western imperialism". They buy it because they are superstitious and because they are insecure about their erections. Please, if think that you can link "western interventionist militarism" to contemporary Chinese mysticism/erectile disfunction, I'd like to see you do it right here in this thread for all to see.

      A personal history of trauma doesn't causally explain global history. Honest people are more than willing to back up their opinion with robust explanations and air tight logic. May I suggest counseling after a full psych evaluation at a major medical teaching and university research hospital.

    i dont think they're doing it for the meat, but rather the horns which are worth a lot of money. The meat im guessing was the poacher thinking of not letting the rest of the rhino go to waste.

    What's wrong with Impala meat? These Impalas aren't endangered

    • @Jedikeri
      @Jedikeri 9 лет назад +21

      Zia Grozny It's not he Impala meat they are concerned with. It's the snares. The snares are very inhumane and an animal can suffer for days. It's also indiscriminate, from game animals like the Impala to Lions, Giraffes, Rhinos, and Elephants, anything can get caught in a snare.

    that NYT "review" was stupid. the author clearly knows as little about wildlife endangerment as he does about the US special operations community. he tried to juxtapose colonialism and these four men helping out; and yet somehow i doubt the rhinos give a shit about pretentious members of the US news media being "annoyed". he appears to be unaware that these 4 men are not uninvited but were asked to be there by one of the park rangers, himself a retired South African special operator who would certainly know better than some self-loathing hack and his romantic appreciation of the real world. the issue is not one of capability but of resources. kruger is over 7,500 square miles in area and the park rangers, who have been dying by the hundreds protecting these animals, simply do not have enough men and resources to maintain an effective presence. it was clearly stated this was to raise awareness of the problem among the international community in the hope that they will offer the support the park rangers need to actively patrol. its also in the hope that this will educate and challenge the chinese people to confront their countrymen who are buying the horns. if the horns are no longer lucrative enough to justify the risk of an armed encounter with park rangers, the poaching rate would decline. they already did this with shark fins and they can do it again with rhino horns.

      Trophy Hunting creates all that 💰 for these countries.
      If you stop that, you stop the conservation 💰 that funds the game parks & the rangers that protect the animals.
      You also stop the much needed 🍖and 💰 made from those Hunts.
      Think with your mind not your impulsive feelings.

    Yeah, but something about this seems screwed up. A bunch of comfortable, wealthy white guys make it there mission to stop and get rid of these poachers... it's not like the poachers hate rhinos... they're probably poor and have families and saw a way to change that. Why not stop the dumbasses who are buying the horns instead of a bunch of poor guys who just want some money. I don't want rhinos to go extinct... but something about this pisses me off.
