  • The family and friends of a South African park ranger who was shot dead earlier this year are demanding justice.
Anton Mzimba was known as a "wildlife warrior".
According to the Game Rangers’ Association of Africa, he was one of the more than 100 wardens killed while patrolling to prevent poaching in the past year.
Al Jazeera’s Emily Angwin reports from Hoedspruit, South Africa.

In Botswana we kill poachers without second thought. We shoot first and ask questions later if we find you messing around our parks and game reserves.

The government needs to be doing much much more to protect the wardens and rhinos, wildlife. This is shameful what poachers are doing.

I'm a future ranger, so because of that this information has hit me rather hard, somewhat like losing a family member

Sometimes, I just don’t understand how people can be as cruel as they are. Those who poach are usually terribly poor and do this for little gain and the dealers and organisers, exporters make the money without getting their hands dirty. Police and government must know who they are. Are they part of it?

    R.I.P. Anton R.I.P.
This is so heartbreaking and horrible for any family to go through. Praying and condolences are up for the family and all who love this courageous man. May the Lord protect and keep those who love and protect his creatures from the Schemes, traps, and deceptions of the wicked corrupt ones, Amen!Humans can be so cruel and evil because of their love for 💰, but God always exposes the truth and bring down the wicked, Amen!

That is a very bizarre thumbnail choice given the title.

They do not get enough credit or money for their life at risk as this!! The woman that her husband was killed made me cry her talking about this. Sad when money means more then someone's life!! I don't understand why. Seem like they could take drones out or something? So sad makes my heart hurt.
Mad respect for these individuals!! Our Wildlife is very important. People need to start looking at the big picture of the ecosystem. If we fail our Wildlife we too shall fall!!

That’s been happening for centuries with indigenous people being murdered by poachers as well🤫

Scared of the poachers more than the animals 🤷

Yes.. In South Africa you are far more likely to be murdered by a man than any animal
