I long thought this was one of the most brilliant pieces of orchestral music ever. It's extremely varied in timing and melody, with a lot of dissonance, but it naturally evokes imagery and is very listenable. Never get bored with it.

I was fortunate to study "Brass Orchestra rep" for 2 years with the GREAT Gilbert Johnson who is principal Trumpet on this recording.
I adore the Philadelphia sound and this is one of the finest examples 👍

One of my favorite recordings of Eugene Ormandy.
Magnificent recording but it pales to the impact made in the Academy of Music when I first heard it as a 19 year old in 1980

I have loved Prokofiev since I was four, before I could pronounce "Prokofiev." That's not saying a whole lot. In 1985 when I was working with a small group of architects, all of which were Prokofiev fans, and several of them were of Russian/Polish descent, I told them so. Every time I said his name they would laugh, (politely) until I asked why. They got me to repeat that I had been a fan since I was four, and the answer was, "Yes, it sounds like it." That's when I discovered, much to my horror and embarrassment I had been mispronouncing it grandly. This of course brought boisterous laughter.
