Well done; this is actually one of my favs. When you do get back to more eldrich stuff, I've been reading a lot of Vikander-Kneed Technical Media (VKTM), for a better tomorrow!(tm). I bet your viewers may like those...
Contrary to popular belief, not all SCP’s are harbingers of destruction, madness & despair. Some like 3471 & 6485 are more wholesome & helpful to the world.
A friendly old man on a bridge who will paint your portrait and give you meaningful advice. SCPs usually have frightening and/or dangerous entries, so it’s kind of nice coming across something so wholesome 😊
The idea that scps are usually dangerous and terrifying is a relic from the early days of the scp wiki You may find that newer entries will have a much more balanced mix of horror, the wholesome, the comical, and such
Yeah, I was expecting the paintings to predict or cause horrible fates for those painted, but the only anomalous part about this guy is that he's some kind of ghost or immortal extradimensional entity. It was a pretty wholesome story.
I love the safe SCPs because they're actually creative and interesting rather than just "thing that wants to kill people" and "thing that REALLY wants to kill people"
Well, there are Safe Class SCPs that can still kill people. Just, they are so easy to contain. That they are not a threat. (Unless it is Pester Bot. That thing can't beat a paper bag) The "Safe" status is ease of containment and likelihood of the general population being disrupted by it. Sure, the Old Man randomly appearing and wanting to paint a picture of you is kind of disruptive to a degree. Yet, it is on such a small, localized level. That it is easy to contain it and resolving that disruption. It isn't an issue. Then, again. Really, sometimes people need some random, nice stranger who is not judgmental or has any biases. Just say the right things to make you feel better. Even going so far as to give advice that is far more impactful to you personal that you never realized you needed. That is kind of the little message this SCP is giving.
As I've gotten older, I find myself more contemplative, and the man from the journal having heart disease at just one year older than myself really made me see this SCP in a different light. I think most people, in the end, just want a little peace in this world. Regrets, concerns for the roads not taken, they tend to pile up around us as we get older. I think this SCP is about making peace with ourselves, no matter what kind of life we may have lived.
Love all these SCP's that are just nice with no twist, a nice break from some entity that just exists for the sake to bring chaos with it, a great reminder that the unknown isn't inherently bad. SCP4999 will always be one of my favorite SCP's and a golden example for SCPs like this one.
That “expecting me to need a wheelchair” part really hits hard. Sometimes the smallest tragedies hit the hardest. The tragedy of knowing your best days are behind you, but wishing they weren’t. At least that’s small when compared to other, bigger tragedies like war, for example lol.
I get bored with the world ending ones now. I like ones like this or Gaia or the really scary monster whos actually a fantastic chef and just wants to make you delicious food!
@@loulabelle5082 I appreciate the little oddities as well, things like a curio cabinet that add things that people consider to have great beauty to it's shelves, slowly filling up over time as artworks, statues and parts of nature seem to vanish from the real world, only to end up on a little shelf in a cabinet in a room.

Now, if 3471 was afraid of the foundation and didn't materialize when the foundation approached the bridge, it would have been the most docile Euclid/ keter anomaly. 30:40 interesting that he possibly accidentally found a foundation operation, which might explain why he's an anomaly to begin with. I wonder if he shows up in another entry as an Easter Egg.
The only deer scp I know of is the one that is a god I think a variant Saturn specifically (since Saturnalia is very important in that one). Doesn’t inspire too much hope for that universe. Very not safe for work with the sacrifices that have to be made to make it think it is trapped.
Perhaps he was the one who disappeared, considering that line where he basically says “that guy that disappeared didn’t enjoy his time with the organization so he left.” The only way he would know is if he either encountered the person and read his mind or if he himself was the person.
That actually makes me pretty happy. Thinking of those small blessings and experiences could be given by different little benevolent scps kind of brings a balance to the world of scp that is so dreary and constantly dangerous.

Came here to say what others have said already, in that having a wholesome SCP was a great change of pace. There was one from the early days that was like "if we made no attempt at all to contain this then the world would end". That's the kind of world-enders I like, where the SCP is outclassed the moment any organization contains it, but hidden in the wild for decades it could theoretically grow it's area of effect to worldwide size. Come to think of it I might be thinking of the first use of "xk-class end-of-the-world scenario" on the scp website. I was using the unofficial K-Class listing as a informal suggestion of what to read next. Just clicking every link one by one and reading about a different end of the world.
I liked this. Even as a standalone story the leather-bond journal could have been good, it felt like a separate story from scp-universe. The kind of ordinary persons unknown insight into the foundation, a random chance encounter. It gives a heartfelt message to people, even if it sounds cheesy. 5/5 video. Good job on this entry reading Volgun.
Looking at the dates, the man that wrote the journal might’ve died the day after receiving the painting. The year of he wrote the journal and the year he died are covered and it’s unclear to me if 11/09 is September 11 or November 9, he may have lived for some time more or he just died the next day feeling relieved after he read the message from SCP 3471 and that’s why there were no more entries. In any case, I loved this one. Wholesome SCPs are hard to write well and this was very good. Thank you for all of your work in adding to the experience 🙏🏼
As much as I like the good, big, cataclysmic SCPs, these smaller ones, even the ones about a benevolent SCP, have a special charm to them. Guess it shows the range of stories in the SCP universe and it's one of the things that makes it great.

Yup. Wholesome SCPs are a nice change. It's nice to think there are some ghosts out there that care for us. Heh. That gives me hope that there's still someone out there who cares for me. Living or not
A nice change of pace from SCP-48975 THE EYES THAT BIND THE UNIVERSE RISK CLASS LMFAO-UNIVERSE SUPER DEATH that are like an hour to skim through as an armchair philospher drags on and on about their favorite way to end all existence.
What was the man’s regret? An illicit/ gay affair or something? How does that tie in with his heart? Great story anyhow - always nice to know not everything supernatural out there wants to tear me to shreds, some just want a chat
I also wondered this but this is the only comment I can find discussing it. I had similar vague thoughts that he could've contracted something but that doesn't seem entirely right with the symptoms he mentions
Yeah this is the biggest question in my mind and I'm shocked that no one else is discussing it. There definitely seems to be some man ("him") that Hywell felt very affectionate about who he compared to the painter. And that there was some major event involving this person that led him to be full of regret. Though I'm not sure if the aforementioned "you know what" event is related to his heart or not. He says that he thinks of his condition as the universe getting back at him for his regrets, but it's not clear whether it's a direct consequence of those events, or a separate event that Hywell considers to be punishment
Aww, a Welsh SCP! A quick note, if it's a Welsh word, like Cynon, the C is more of a K sound, or a hard C like Cat. so Cynon would be like "C(for cat)-Uh-None ".
Love you Volgun, hope you are happy and well! Thanks for creating such wonderful SCP content for us to enjoy! I leave this comment as an offering to the great and terrible gods of the YT algorithm, may they smile upon this channel reccomending it to more people.
I feel like this is miscategorized... it's clearly intelligent, seems to teleport, and has acknowledged that it has previously been in other locations, at least one of which likely lead to it observing Foundation operations. Current containment procedures are insufficient, and this should be classified as keter.
Ok, it's been a long time since an SCP made me get the warm fuzzies. It was a nice warm feeling, as well as flavor; it was almost like I was sipping a hot cocoa while enjoying an early winter day. xD I also tend to blend into my surroundings, so having someone ask to paint me - would... be really flattering. The wholesome sweetness that just seems to come from the old man is rather relaxing, I know some sign language and always carry notebooks on me - I can only imagine the stories he would have to tell! Heck, I'd use the notebook to have him help me more sign - so that we could communicate more effectively! I really believe the man journaling the interactions with the old man is being slowly murdered by his sister. One, she controls all his food. Two, his health deteriorated at a rapid rate - specifically in the ways she had surprisingly prepared for. He is merely 35, and suddenly everything in his life is falling apart? Yeah, that's a bit too...suspicious for my liking.
I wanted to cover a few heartwarming SCP's - it's a nice change of pace.
Yeah this reminds me a bit of SCP-4999.

I thought it was that he was gay and might have rejected someone he loved in a particularly cruel manner.

This and 4999 give me similar feelings. Both are bittersweet.
Keep up the excellent VA work, Volgun.
This and 4999 have got to be
some of the most wholesome
SCPs. And I will always have a
soft spot for 5031, that rascal.
Thank you for all you do. Your videos are the best!
The voice work for this entry is outstanding.
That tingly feeling you get when you see a Volgun video in your feed 34 minutes old.
Never thought I'd cry my eyes out for a scp story.
I cried when he read the back... and I was frustrated when the painter couldn't be found on the bridge.
You're voice acting is fantastic, great videos
This is my new favorite SCP oddly enough.
This one was surprisingly uplifting
Big fan of the safe, wholesome SCP entries
That ending was truly beautiful. Thank you.
I needed this today. Thank you.
That literally made me cry.
This lecture opened a crack into my heart 💜
Love you Volgun, hope you are happy and well! Thanks for creating such wonderful SCP content for us to enjoy!
I leave this comment as an offering to the great and terrible gods of the YT algorithm, may they smile upon this channel reccomending it to more people.
When I heard the message about the child being given life I actually real life teared up. I know that shit stuck with him.
I feel like this is miscategorized... it's clearly intelligent, seems to teleport, and has acknowledged that it has previously been in other locations, at least one of which likely lead to it observing Foundation operations. Current containment procedures are insufficient, and this should be classified as keter.
Wholesomeness 100, no wonder they let anyone walk along that bridge.
Bravo, great pick and reading. Thank you Volgun.
Dude, you are seriously amazing. Easily the best SCP tube channel out their. You f**king ROCK dude❤❤😊
Good God man your voice acting was awesome in this one!
This is one of the most wholesome SCPs yet.
Sign language is cool. I'm learning it in university this year!
What a nice story, a good break from the Foundation racing against SCPs.
Nice and all that 3471-1 assures D-4904 about his daughter but D-class don't get to see the end of next month so quite a hollow reassurance.
this was incredible - it felt like I was reading the old Narnia books
a ghost is a being of pure emotion and little substance. SCP-3471 has more of both than most
It's nice that there are good SCPs. I wish there were more.
This one made me real emotional great job!
