Hey thank you SO much for explaining and demonstrating the Jacobs Ladder. Knowing it has a great reputation, I’ve been eyeing it at the gym, but was intimidated because I didn’t know the basics of how to operate it and use that belt and stuff. Now I’m ready! I appreciate it!
I've dropped 10 pounds in a month using this machine, and I'm 66 years old. Yesterday, I set a personal record of 2206 steps in 30 minutes. This is the toughest piece of aerobic equipment I've ever used. I try not to promote it, because I want to be able to use it when I'm ready.
That’s awesome progress, Rick! Good for you 👍🏼 Hahaha! That’s funny because I try to keep a low pro at the gym too. Most people are intimidated by it or don’t really know how to use it, so I usually have a free shot at it. But sometimes there is a drifter who gets on and I’m like, dang! 😂
I’m slowly falling in love with this darn machine!!! Beginning of April, I barely could do 1 min, then I worked up to 2mins, NOW I’m doing 4mins! I turn on Eye of the Tiger and go at it!
That’s awesome! 🤩 Keep on working your way up. Before you know it, you’ll be doing 60-plus minutes. I’ve done 90 before and at that point, I could’ve done all day. 😅
This is the 3rd video I've watched about this machine, and you're the FIRST person to describe the height gauge on the belt/cord! I was WONDERING how that worked out, lol, as I am 5'2"!!
Hey Tiffany! Yes, you want to adjust the cord to your height. It’s really easy 👍🏼 The only thing though is the numbers on the cord tend to wear out over time so they’re hard to see. You have to sort of memorize your spot and just default to it in that case. Or, have your gym replace it. That’s the best-case-scenario. 🤩👍🏼
@@railabs Okay, so I used the machine today and loved it! And the band was NOT worn off in the 5'2" area. However, I discovered that I am NOT gonna use the strap on 5'2" for two reasons: One, it did not stop rolling before I scrolled right off the bottom 🤣and two, I liked working higher up on the machine where I could see the computer. So, I set the strap to about 5'6" or 5'7" (and that part of the strap WAS worn off, lol!), and I was able to work out, up higher on the machine AND it stopped rolling while I was still standing on the bottom rung. Very cool machine! Think I'm gonna try to "climb Mt. Everest" this month!
@@tiffanyhackerspace8377 OK, cool! That was good experimentation that you did. Sometimes you have to just wing it when you’re working out 🏋🏼♀️ And definitely go for Everest. 🙌🏼🤩

I looked this up after I saw the Jacob's ladder machine they installed at my gym today. And I found this RUclips channel. Thanks 👍 I was wondering how to use the machine.
That’s awesome! Well hopefully my tutorial will help you out 👍🏼 Sadly, the Jacob’s Ladder in our gym is now broken. It’s this exact one ☝️ I’m going to try to get a progress report on it tomorrow.
Right?! 🤩💥 I’m looking into buying one for our house. I actually broke this one at the gym the other day. 😂 It was getting “clunky” anyway and I asked the powers that be to fix it. But they refused. I warned them that I would eventually break it and I honored that proclamation. 💪🏼
I've done crossfit and done the bear crawl. So surprised how my core felt after. The jacobs ladder I havnt done yet. When it comes to dropping body fat, if I saw this right looks like a good machine to tackle dropping your body fat.
What brand of shoes are you wearing? I just discovered Xero shoes last year. Love my minimalist shoes. They were great on this; could almost feel my foot curl around the dowels.

This machine looks amazing. Would love to get one if I ever have 5 or 6 grand to spare. How do you think it compares to a concept 2 rower, for the amount of muscles it engages? (Probably better at legs than a rower?) I love simple, well built machines that can last decades. I'm curious how long the drive train will last before it needs refurbishing/repair? I couldn't find any photos online of the actual mechanism inside it.
As for the muscle engagement, your legs will get more work on the rower. At least, my thighs always burn more on it. However, I feel the Jacob’s Ladder feels more natural. And yes, they are around 5 grand 💰 🤦 As for the drivetrain, we’ve had this machine at the gym for about 12 years and it’s still working great. They just had to tighten and grease the chain a couple times inside.
Thank you! It’s all taken care of for you. The machine calculates it. I love that feature too. I always strive for a certain distance in a certain time and then try to beat it in successive workouts. 💥 😅
Don't forget about that bad-ass Versaclimber next to you. That is one bad machine. But I still think the Jacobs Ladder is a little harder than the Versaclimber. I think the bear crawl position of the JL just makes the workout harder.
You are correct! The Versa is also a killer 💥 And for sure on the crawl position. I’m actually planning on putting on some work gloves and hitting a local trail that’s about the same vert as the JL. I want to climb it the same way and see how it does or doesn’t compare. 🤩
@@railabs Did you ever do bear crawls on a hill to see how it compares to the JL? You have a nice fitness channel by the way. To me, the JL is even harder than the Versaclimber but the Versaclimber is more intuitive and less impact.

@4:04 going reverse on stairs, I turn around and crawl down head first. Obviously slower, but its a great chest and shoulder workout! Long stairs are great! But usually concrete so be careful if anyone tries this
I have a foot issue that pops up every now and then with any form of cardio I do. And this is no different. But otherwise, no it doesn’t case foot pain at all. 👍🏼
What is the purpose of the belt? The one at my gym is missing the belt and the staff don't really seem concerned about fixing it. Can I still use the machine without it?
The belt is quintessential for the use of the machine. It’s what makes it work. You attach it to your body and when you get on the machine, it releases a catch inside that allows it to move. If there is no belt, the machine won’t work. It’s manually operated.
@3:35 "we usually walk, but guess what? You can crawl up and down this stairway, just like a squirel, for hours on end if you wanted to!" What more could a man want? 😆
Yes!! I’ve heard several asshats say it on social media. They’re obviously just trying to create controversy to get more Likes and followers. One of which is that dreadful V-shred guy. 🤦♂️
My gym does too. And this is on it! ☝️ We also have a network of stairs weaved into the heart of our town, which I frequent often. However, I live in the Rockies and it snows 9 months out of the year. So this is a great option when the weather isn’t so pretty.
Nope. It’s a machine where you crawl consistently at an angle. Bear crawls are done on the floor or ground and you can only do them for so long before you get worn out. A REAL bear crawl is actually done with your hips elevated and legs close to straight, btw. A lot of people address them incorrectly ☝️
