Yip can't wait was blown away by dulo's K390 but now just as excited I have magna cut coming from Gary Creely.... And like a child waiting for Christmas I can't wait......... Lol
This is really really great footage. Do you think you could create a small residual burr that the average joe might overlook while thinking that they have a hair whittling edge (albiet, fragile), but that actually crumbles? Also, this type of microscope view combined with a BESS test would be very very cool and relatable across the various knifetubers that have BESS testing.
@@BOOSTEDLASER Magnacut. There is a good bit of data available online which suggests that magnacut will be significantly tougher than s45vn if they both have good heat treats. For an outdoor knife, that seems like a useful property.
Big Brown Bear, how would you say this Magnacut steel compares with Vanax? And have you had any experience with Vanax in the higher 62 to 64 hardness range? I remember seeing videos of yours with Vanax many moons ago figured you'd be the best person to ask
I’m looking forward to getting a knife in it. I was pleased that Bark River was going to use it but it sounds like they are only going to run it at 60-61hrc. Based on what I’ve read of Larin’s info on it, running it soft is a bit of a waste?
I'd be very interested to hear how you find the edge stabilty of magnacut vs aebl. aebl is my all time favourite for a semi stainless. mostly because im a lazy sharpener. im not high into the vanadiums. i would have loved to get the Sebenza or inkosi in magnacut, but they keep their plans shut tight. a spyderco native is probably going to be built first im guessing
There's a chance of severe warping when blades are ground thin before heat treatment. It's probably best just to compare a custom knife rather than risking ruining the mule.
Fair point, I was going off with the manufacturers specifications which I don't think are correct. I'll be getting the tools to measure the magnification in a couple weeks.
Very cool, thank you. The one feature or property that I am very curios about when it comes to MagnaCut is edge stability. I would be very curios to see how the MagnaCut performs in this regard compared to different steels.
great footage that magnification really rocks!!!! i hate social media but i will have to get into instagram to closer follow you man,i really appreciate your work, keep going
RIP Cliff Stamp. He taught me this concept
Came here to give Cliff a shout-out
Is he gone????
@@oceanwaves83 yes.
Great camera work! Really cannot thank you enough for what you’re doing as an educator and the contributions you’re making to the knife community. 🙏🏽
Do you mind sharing what microscope you’re using?
Also interested Shawn. Please do. Great vids as always 👍
I would really like to know that as well
Will watch 'scope footage all day tbh.

This is awesome stuff. Thank you, Shawn
Great shots! I'm about to examine a new Rockstead with a microscope... this is getting me pumped up!
MagnaCut looks like it will be replacing LC200N.
Awesome macros Shawn! Thanks for sharing!
Great video that was very cool thanks BBB

I wonder what s30 or s35vn will have after the sharpie test. As always bbb is a mad nerd in knife steels ,and i love it
god damm microscopes are cool...
very good. Honey I shrunk the camera man
Neat
MAN THATS AMAZING!! I love watching that !!

Is the difference in toughness between this and cruwear enough to warrant purchase over the other in your experience

Yeah they shouldn't run it so soft
I've never seen manila rope in my life, despite handling rope most of my life lol.
Should get rid of my older stuff and get this new stuff?
Very cool video and footage!
Love your videos! How can we contact you to inquire about a spydie re-grind?
I missed this. Cool stuff Shawn
Impressive. Thank you.
This has me pretty excited about magnacut
Time for me to get my usb microscope out. Thanks Shawn great video.

im impressed by whatever setup you used to hold the microscope and blade steady and do a cut.
Dem micro serrations 🤤
Great job as Always! I love the MagnaCut, we're going Tioga ufcfightpass it obnoxious a couple of upcoming blades.
Very cool vid.
Nice video dude.
After you are done with all the tests, you should re-heattreat the 62 HRC mule to 64 and 62.9 HRC mule to 65-66 HRC for further tests. 👍🔥🔥

I'm still finishing up the edge retention, than will start looking at durability. But to be honest we've already seen the durability on my Instagram
