Amazing how almost 40 years later there are kids addicted to this song and much of the amazing 80's music thanks to Stranger Things. AMAZING! I am an 80's kid, and glad to see the best music making in todays world.💕
That must be a great feeling, such validation of your work years later. I’m addicted to the song myself. The other song that I didn’t know was hers is “this woman’s work”. Great music
I remember this song when it came out. I liked it then, catchy and different even for the '80s. Now, it's all over the radio at work, so I searched Kate Bush Wuthering Heights came up. I'm on the verge of going down to Kate Bush rabbit hole.
The music was one of the main reasons I started watching Stranger Things with the kiddos. We watched it a few years after it first came out and everyone thought we were weird for not watching it until we did.
This is a well-deserved song. It also shows that the most popular song is not necessarily the most loved song, just that it had a lot of exposure, at one point in time. I think she toured once in Europe, 1979. She became immersed in recording and visual production. A brave, hard working, intelligent, humble artist. According to Digital Music News, 5/11/2019, 90.7% of artists are undiscovered. What does that tell you? One thing it tells me, is that there is always someone better; but none as unique as Kate - congratulations No. 1 - Back to the Future we go!
I'm Belgian. During the 90s there were SO many very talented bands here of all sorts and genres. They played the cafés, pubs near the universities where they found a local fan base or toured the country playing these small pubs. A handful got noticed on an international level such as Deus, Praga Khan, and a bunch of others. I think this is one of the saddest things in life that so many true artists will never be discovered and get their well deserved recognition, even with the internet.
It’s wonderful that younger generations are discovering Kate Bush's amazing talent. Wuthering Heights is such a beautiful timeless song based on the Emily Brontë classic novel.💃🏻
Wuthering heights is kinda hard for me to listen to. It's really interesting but it does not make me want to listen repeatedly. Not saying it's bad, it's clearly not, but idk it's too weird and 70s for me lol.
Wuthering Heights is awesome (song and a novel), but one correction: she composed it after watching eponymous movie. And she read it only after discovering it was initially Emily Bronte's novel.
I was at high school when I first heard "Running Up That Hill", loved the mystery and striking ambience of it all, and Kate was a dark haired beauty. Never thought I'd still be around to see and hear her classic single go to No1 in the UK charts after all this time.
Well deserved artist and truly a number 1 song for many. This chart position is just an icing on the cake. All those who are familiar with Kate Bush's work instinctively know that she is way beyond chart success and is actually off the map! Anyway, I am really happy for Kate Bush and her legacy. In the midst of overrated artists/band and egomaniacs in the music field, she is one artist that truly deserves recognition even 1000 years from now. Best wishes from a huge Kate Bush admirer from India. :-)
She's really one of the best, most creative modern day musicians. I hope more of her music gets rediscovered. She deserves the attention. Love you Kate!
I still listen to all the great music from the 70s & 80s. Very little music of today interests me.. Great that younger generations are discovering music from those great decades.
This crap really sh**s on Kate's song. Whatever though. At least more people are aware of her brilliance now, although most probably dont deserve it, and will go back to their Billie Eilish and whatever other garbage once the trend is gone.
What I find wonderful is that the younger generation have embraced this beautiful song by the incredible maestro Kate Bush, instead of what we have been subjected to for decades. This is music, not noise!
I have always loved Kate's music and think she is one of the best and underrated female artists ever. Listen to her early albums Lionheart and The kick Inside for pure perfection. She has been writing songs since the age of eleven and i believe was discovered by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd who helped her make a demo tape back in the 70's to help get her started.
As an Englishman I am outrageously proud of Kate Bush - up there with Peter Gabriel and Paul Weller as folk that just get on with it, they changed music but don't ask for the acclaim and adoration. I listened to 'Hounds of love' on C90 during my 1980s paper round, just as i did The Cure's 'Head on a Door', INXS 'Listen like Thieves', U2 'The Unforgettable Fire' , Prince 'Purple rain' & '1999' and Public Enemy 'It takes an nation of Millions'. They were GOOD rimes, the NETFLIX & TikTok crowd have much good to yet discover !!
Hounds of Love is her most epic album ever released and thankfully I was already alive when it came out - the second CD I bought for my new CD-Player. I still love Kate and her music, still listening to all of her wonderful work through the years. Kate’s one of the greatest artists in music. 😍
Same here. When CDs were first coming out I made damn sure Kate Bush was on my list. I hope these new fans take a listen to all of her music. They may not like her high pitched voice at the start, but this album developed her strong lowered ethereal voice that she has now. This one and The Sensual World are my favorites. I still play them like crazy.
She deserves recognition also commercially (she already had it from music lovers)... I am "girl of the 60s" so Kate is part of my very young years and I've always been fascinated by her music athmosphere and passion, so very powerful and II was sorry that she choose not to perform live anymore and slowly left the public scene, I think her music is different in a positive way and timeless, proof it is the new raise in the chart of Running Up The Hill.....
The song perfectly fits the show imo. The whole Season 4 so far and especially the scenes with Max in the cemetery. The latter was one of the best scenes, in terms of cinematography, ever made and one of my favorites now. You know, that scene where Max was finally in the hands of Vecna. And Steve, Dustin, & Lucas are with her in the cemetery figuring out what to do. Really great sequence right there.
This was the first album that introduced me to the wonder that is Kate Bush. For the younger generations who've made this song a hit all these years later, I highly recommend listening to this entire album. It is a trip. And when you've come down from that high, go back and listen to her other albums, especially the earlier ones. She was only 21 when the first album was released, but it was clear that she was a genius. It is just hard to understand why she was so underrated. But I think that had to more with her not doing tours after the first album, than anything else. I think the world of music is a better one for her inclusions.
I’m old enough to have seen Wuthering Heights performed for the first time on TOTP and I love Kate Bush. I don’t know why you say she was underrated, though - I think it was perfectly clear to all of us at the time that she was a genius. Younger people won’t have rated her until they came across her in Stranger Things because she’s of a different generation to them.
What's truly great is that the lyrics are being heard today. Back in the 80's everyone loved the MTV video but it was a little artsy for most people. Being placed in Stranger Things has everyone asking why, so they listen to the lyrics. Only then does the truly profound and compelling proposition emerge. Great music endures!
I remember Wuthering Heights as a kid in Brazil, I couldn't speak English but I mimicked every single word with a Portuguese substitute 😅 it was 1979, I remember it so well!!!! I finally read the book recently and am hooked on Kate Bush, who depicted Cathy and Heathcliff's tragic/eternal romance with accurate and vibrant loyalty to Bronte's masterpiece, both masterpieces, actually!
I saw Kate on Saturday Night Live in 1978. She sang " The Man with the Child in His Eyes " from atop a piano, in her gold jumpsuit- SNL bandleader Paul Shafer played the piano. Later she sang Them Heavy People" in her signature trench coat and hat. She's been #1 for me ever since.
Was mesmerised with "wuthering heights" and later " dont give" up with Peter Gabriel. Those were the days. I would love it if she made a new album. Perhaps not in my lifetime.
I think her last album was in 2011, wasn't it? Plus there's the 2016 live release. And 2005's "Aerial" (a double album) is one of my top favourites of hers. So I wouldn't be surprised if she releases more.
1985 I was 15 years old and I love Kate Bush music and being a teenager in the 80s was amazing if I had a choice today to be a teenager back in the 80s or teenager today I would pick to be a teenager in the 80s
This is my favourite song of all time, and not because of Stranger Things. I've loved this song for years and have been met with strange looks whenever I tell people what my favourite song ever is. I'm so happy it's getting the recognition it deserves
Love Kate bush from the 80s and her music still resonates that’s great one of the reasons she wasn’t bigger then, was that she did not fly so she never got to the US to perform, we only got her records, her music was, and is wonderful.
just proves new music is utter garbage that and that older music was much better. i was around for the 80's music and i never heard this song. for what its worth i think it sucks.
What has 'bigger' got to do with anything? She is/was as big as she ever wanted to be... Not every artist feels the need to break the american market. In fact some may regard it as selling out to do so. "Artists shouldn't be made famous. They have this huge aura of almost god-like quality about them, just because their craft makes a lot of money. And at the same time it is a forced importance ... It is man-made so the press can feed off it." Kate Bush 1980
@@dvvaughn564 It's certainly not one of my favourite Bush tunes. It's not even the best song on this album. Simply the most accessible. Fortunately for us Kate Bush fans, she has a lot of less commercial, though more superior numbers. You'll never find them if you're only interested in the Top 40.
@@dvvaughn564 Nine albums. Wrote most of the songs off her first two before she was 15 years old. Discovered by Dave Gilmour and signed up to EMI at 16 years of age. She's explored just about every genre you could poke a stick at. I'm a hard rock/prog rock nut and I've got every Kate Bush recording.
I heard "This Woman's Work" on an episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia & have been hooked on Kate Bush ever since. She is amazing & has a brilliant catalogue!
By far one of my favourite songs. Love the music, the voice, the message. The young generations don’t have the intellect to understand the message or that era of music which had incredible messages about love and the value of life. The world is a mess because of today’s young people and their foolish priorities of ego and self absorption. One thing however that will never change is the truth of life and as humans you either fight to get it right or you’ll perish. There is no middle ground, not now, not ever. It’s your call, young ones.
I'm so happy for Kate Bush. Long overdue recognition for being one of the world's best! I'm a little sad that a cool secret (relative to modern popular songs by Harry Styles for instance) I had for such a long time has been exposed, but happy kids are listening to a legend.
@@FFM0594 Erm, yes, I’m no spring chicken. I loved Running Up that Hill in 1985, when it was No.1. (‘78 was another song). My comment was to say us older folks know about Kate Bush, and have enjoyed her for decades. She’s been relatively unknown to the consuming masses of teens and 20-somethings until recently.
Kate Bush I ❤️…Every Song, Albums Are Absolutely Fab. She’s A British Legend In Popular Music & So Beautiful. Those Who Don’t Know Kate Don’t Know Music!
I followed Kate Bush when she released Wuthering Heights , she has a very diverse voice. Now with the TikTok re-release of Running up that hill is absolute magic. Patty Gurdy has just done a cover of this as well and you can almost think they are the same person
people less know that there’s a lot of underrated bands/artists with underrated songs sound so good. it never fade. “Stranger Things” movie brought some few known 80’s songs.
I wasn't even born, the song is 2 years older than me. I have heard the song thousands of times before, but that 1 scene from Stranger Things made me see it in a different light. Not sure if the song is about what the Vecna vs Max scene is about, but to me it's about mental health and trying to come back to reality, and the song fit the scene perfectly
Here is my picks for a Kate Bush playlist. 1.Running Up That Hill 2. Rubberband Girl 3. Don't Give Up (with Peter Gabriel) 4. And So Is Love 5. Hounds Of Love 6. Watching You Without Me 7. The Sensual World 8. Nocturn 9. And Dream of Sheep
Has always been one of my favorite Kate songs, I remember it well when it came out and everybody around me just didn't really 'get' it. Now 'Sensual World' for number 1 please!
Good for Kate to have her fantastic voice heard by a new generation. She has long been my favourite artist, I would encourage all her new ankle biter fans to listen to all of her music and artistry.
It’s a win-win situation. Long term Kate bush fans like myself are now interested in watching Stranger Things and fans of Stranger Things have discovered one of the greatest musical geniuses of all time. Kate Bush is also a really lovely, down to earth person who sincerely cares about the world and the people in it. There is not a single bit of hypocrisy about her, which is rare in celebrity world these days. It’s very heartening to see her music being appreciated all over again.
Music is so beautiful. Music today is beautiful (despite what ignorant people say) and music then was also beautiful. This song is just SO good, I wish I could get the feeling of finding a good song over and over again...like a drug lol but I feel like that's hard to find sometimes. I just hope that my generation doesn't stick to what is playing in the charts & explore all the different music there is because then it will be alive & live on forever. Music needs to be alive, it's like a time machine & it's sings the words/feelings/countless stories that you can't say. Man I just love music so much I might tear up...maybe it's because it's 1am....I should sleep.
How wonderfully rare that any song (and somehow referring to it as a "song" falls short of any Kate Bush creation) should find it's way to relevance with an entire new generation. Spoiler alert: don't be surprised if another generation (or two... or...) fall in love with KB and all she has and will create. Having loved her work in it's infancy, I sure hope I'm around to see some of those... ["now starts the craft of the father..." OMG where do lyrics like this come from!]
Go's to show how old music back in the days can still go to number one today when younger generation don't even know who these singers are back in the 80's. Bringing old music back into modern day films or tv shows will just bring them back to be even more relevant today like they was back then
What goes around, comes around! This song Hits so many words with so much feeling and experiences which we all facing through these turbulent time's and insecurities now.
Legend. I recall being hypnotized by her storytelling on her precise video clips. What an oddity to have it on Stranger Things, especially by being a non-American act. Welcomed #1 btw I thought it was a top 5 at the time. Anyway her legacy reaches far beyond charts, it's pop culture at its best. What a Voyage ;-D

for what its worth i think it sucks.
@@warrenbridges1891 wait she had more? i shudder to think
“Running up that hill” is a very passionate love song with Kate Bush’s beautiful voice and I like it.
it was always my No 1 song of all times. I just love it and cannot stop listening to it
Music from the 80s were the best.
I preferred the 70's on balance but the 80's was still gold compared to the current mainstream crap.
BRO THEY INTERVIEWED A COVER BAND
Running up that Hill really suits the show. And so well used. It’s well deserved at No 1.
one of the greatest songs of all time. dont ruin it for us, youngins.
I heard "This Woman's Work" on an episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia & have been hooked on Kate Bush ever since. She is amazing & has a brilliant catalogue!
Oh ... the most beautiful but saddest song in the world .... I need to get a tissue ready before I can listen to it.
I played the album "the kick inside" so often that i wore it out. But happily bought a new one. Money well spent.
It's fantastic that it's not covered by some weak band! Keep it original, sounding as fresh as it ever did!
This song has been covered so many times already, now it will be even worse
Young people are discovering that old music makes new stuff sound totally shit.Hail the musical genius of Kate..this is not even her best
I'm so happy for Kate Bush. Long overdue recognition for being one of the world's best! I'm a little sad that a cool secret (relative to modern popular songs by Harry Styles for instance) I had for such a long time has been exposed, but happy kids are listening to a legend.
Errm, you know she was number 1 for weeks in 1978? In multiple countries?
@@FFM0594 Erm, yes, I’m no spring chicken. I loved Running Up that Hill in 1985, when it was No.1. (‘78 was another song). My comment was to say us older folks know about Kate Bush, and have enjoyed her for decades. She’s been relatively unknown to the consuming masses of teens and 20-somethings until recently.
She does not care for fame. She was huge in the UK in 78/79
Hounds of love was essential listening when it was released and remains so, great album from a very special mind
when hounds of love came out, I played that record non stop till I wore grooves out, had to buy another copy, good for you Kate!
The rule about older songs having to be streamed double than a new song to get a sale count is 💩
Kate Bush I ❤️…Every Song, Albums Are Absolutely Fab.
No surprise.. she is timeless and so talented 🥰
This song was number one for me when it was released!
I listened to this song through out the pandemic when things were bleak for me.
I was only 5 in 85 and Running up the Hill was not very successful here in the US so I never heard. But wow New Fan here.
Such a beautiful song. I can’t stop playing it. Its my comfort
Ms. Kate Bush has made $2,300,000 from the royalties for the song. This according to Forbes magazine, $100,000 a show. Good for you Dame Kate !!!
Great pleasure to hear she became No.1 beyond time and space.
Well its true. Heard it for the first time last week. Downloaded it. Now playing in the car.
people less know that there’s a lot of underrated bands/artists with underrated songs sound so good. it never fade. “Stranger Things” movie brought some few known 80’s songs.
Give a listen to her older stuff. It's even better.
The Brits have so much talent in all directions! Take care of it and develop it! Love you all! Cheers from the Ukraine!
God bless Ukraine 🇺🇦
Her songs are way ahead of their time and her songs still sound strong today
Such a great album!
She’s still at #1 at one on one of the charts she still there as of November
I was there when it was originally released
Babooshka was a hit for me and so was kates costume for the clip
Bet it was! 😆 I'm female, and I oogled at her aswell.
Every male wanted to swap places with that cello!
@@chronokev4080 I'm two years older than Kate and my missus was as jealous as all shit.
Kate has no rival.
I discovered the artist before this song gained popularity recently 😊
Here is my picks for a Kate Bush playlist. 1.Running Up That Hill 2. Rubberband Girl 3. Don't Give Up (with Peter Gabriel) 4. And So Is Love 5. Hounds Of Love 6. Watching You Without Me 7. The Sensual World 8. Nocturn 9. And Dream of Sheep
And Rocket's tail
@@isobeljames1328 *sigh* and The Big Sky...
We should remember her other masterpiece. Wuthering Heights!
This is why EVERY MUSICIANS NEEDS BE INDEPENDENT, DO YOUR THING!
Hell yeah!! Had a lifelong crush on Kate Bush since hearing Wuthering Heights at around 6 years old.❤❤❤❤❤
Kate Bush is one of the most talented artists of the 20th Century. It is not a wonder that she is still appreciated in the 21st Century. Salute Kate!
my 14 year old daughter says 80's-90's music is waaay better than anything today.
I'm the same age as Kate's son and I have listened to all of her albums. Hounds of Love is with no doubt her best album, second best is Aerial.
Kate deserves the recognition for her unique style as it helped create the pathway for later artists to take risks and be dangerous etc.
she should release CLOUDBURSTING next
Whoever chose this song for stranger things made the greatest choice! Thanks for connecting us to this gem of a song
37 yrs, that's hard to believe.
Kate!!! ❤️The 80s... MTV... The best.
Absolutely beautiful and epic! 😎👊
What a Voyage ;-D
that synth loop is so tight
Pretty sure she hit #1 with 'The Haunting Of Wuthering Heights' at the age of 19 years old. Get with it Sky!
Essa música de Kate Bush é linda o Brasil te ama Kate
Hounds of love is the best album ever made ❤
Good for her. She’s a complete artist!
back in the days when normal people made normal and beautiful songs.
