    When I hear stuff about players not coming out to talk to media after tough games I think about when the Sedins retired and their former teammates said when there was a bad loss, the Sedins were out there immediately talking about accountability and improvement. But when it was a really good game, they would be in the gym and letting other guys on the team get the glory. Even though talking to the media doesn’t REALLY matter, I think it’s an indication of attitude and leadership

    I agree that the Captain and at least one Alternate should speak after every game, especially games that are total disasters. Also about the jersey tossing, if I flew to Toronto to see a Leafs game and I saw that, paid upwards of a thousand dollars to see that, I would want to toss my jersey as well. I wouldn't but I would want to.

    Adam is completely correct. Regardless of their role in that game's narrative, the captains need to step up and speak with the media when the team underperforms.
    And it's sad seeing becoming just another Toronto media homer, protecting the players (and refusing to hold them accountable) in order to protect his newly-gained access to them.

    Bruins fan here, and Adam is right. The algorithm sent me here after listening to my Bruins podcast, and the difference is wild. Leafs fans saying take it easy because it's only game 8 while Bruins fans are ripping the Bruins shooting %, Swayman's save %, the amount of penalties the Bruins have taken. They want the Bruins to make moves already and are asking how warm Montgomery and Sweeney's seats are.

    • @bb-s8f
      @bb-s8f День назад +5

      As a Stars fan, what I saw last night from the Bruins was that, at least penalty wise, I find it unlikely that they keep taking as many as they have been. Specifically there was one penalty where Marchand checked a Star in the back (Think it was Lyubushkin) right after he got off the bench when the puck was nowhere near either of them. That seemed to be the Bruins problem. taking a lot of the penalties off of unforced errors, which in theory should be easier to fix with better disipline and focus as the season goes on. If the same things are happening constantly in December and beyond, that's when you really worry.

    I totally agree with Adam. Credentialed reporter Jesse is focused on the system side of media appearances: who spoke recently, who had the bigger story in the game, who will have the best quotes, etc., which is a part of it for sure. However, Adam has his finger on the overarching story with the whole team, which is this apparent lack of passion from the team leaders. Especially after that laughable effort on PK, the fans are convinced that this team doesn't care, and when the team's backbone players refuse to address the fans after a loss like that at home, it corroborates our fears that the team is spineless.

    Hey gentlemen; great show as usual. Adam = you are 100% right! When it comes to "accountability" no one player seems to step up and say: "We stunk. I stunk! We played like crap." "Our fans (especially in our own barn) deserve better." Better on penalty killing, better on offense, just effin BETTER all around! And yes Adam, I also agree that the "suits" should be held accountable as well; maybe even more so? Now here's what I say should be their focus when it comes to the "power-play". It's in quotes for obvious reasons. So, I ask this question: "When do you see a large percentage of shots on a net-keeper happen in a short amount of time?" If you think about it? This usually happens when a team is down by 1(one) and there's say under 2 minutes before the end of the 3rd. Agree? And during this time-frame you see a team basically throwing everything they can at that goalie in an attempt to tie it up and get the game into overtime at the very least. And at no time is this more the case than when the playoffs are in full force! Again, I say: agree? So, here's my thought for a team like the Leafs who have ALL the fire-power they need to score when they're a man up. Again, this is all me. Not saying I can guarantee anything 100% but, I'm pretty sure this would work? Solution: you go with 4 guys who can pull off crisp and decisive passes (without losing the puck or coughing it up for a turnover) and the 5th (fifth guy) you PARK in front of the goaltender. This fifth guy stays where he is and wreaks havoc with the defensemen and the goaltender, blocking any view of incoming shots or deflections in order to SCORE! It's truly a very simplistic way of carrying out your POWER PLAY but, it works. It's the old adage that: "A goalie can't stop what he can't see!" My lineup would consist of these 5. Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Reilly and (believe it or not?) Ryan Reeves! Reeves is big, he can handle the "punishment" in front and he's what 6'8'' on skates? I have seen so VERY many goals scored at this level (NHL) while the netminder can't even see the shot from the point or from the side dots (ala: Steven Stamkos or Alex Ovechkin). I'd even bet if they adopted this way of executing the power-play; they'd score the first time! Perhaps against Boston tonight?! And finally (sorry for the length of these comments) I gotta be honest about Berube. I understand his track record and yes he's won a cup. I also constantly hear that this coach is one badass guy and demands attention in whichever room he is in. But, honestly I'm not sure that's what this group of young guys needs? I understand trying to drive a new system into this team. I get that this particular team is probably under the MOST scrutiny over any other team in the NHL. Now, I'm NOT saying you need to hand-hold these guys and treat them with little kid gloves on. However it's apparent that their NOT having any fun at all! Yes you need discipline, yes (at times) they need to be yelled at and yes a little kick in the ass from time to time might be warranted. But, if we could figure out how to put some of the FUN back in the game for these guys I honestly think that would go a VERY long way to becoming a winning team. Instead of what we're seeing on the ice right now. Thanks guys for the "soap-box". Keep up the great work Steve, Adam & Jessie - always a treat listening to you three talk hockey. Wishing you continued success. Cheers - Dave.

    What Jesse doesn’t get, and Adam captures with his criticism, is that accountability is a culture. Culture is not established by wondering why the leaders should need to do something - it’s defined by moments where leaders do it even when others think it’s not necessary. Culture takes time to establish and cannot be switched on like a light bulb. A great example is stories of high standards and accountability (no matter win or lose, match day or training) by former Man Utd players.

    A bit of pot-stirring that might be notable, the last three roster-level forwards the Maple Leafs acquired through trade have been Connor Dewar, Sam Lafferty, and Ryan O'Reilly. Lafferty and O'Reilly were acquired at the trade deadline the season before last. Neither are still with the team. The Leafs don't like trading for forwards who could make an impact.

    Give Lorentz a spot on PP2, he'll be good in front of the net. Move Knies to PP1 net front. Tavares can sit on the bench and watch.

    1:07:25 As a Ducks fan I remember having both these studs. Anaheim becoming an absolute DLine factory. Cam Fowler, Shea Theodore, Brandon Montour, Josh Manson, and Hampus Lindholm at one time all on the active roster. Now we got Zellweger and Mintyukov.

    Embarrassing effort by the players, against the coach’s former team, no less. Berube ran into that locker room after the game was over last night. I hope he reamed them out and we’ll see if there’s a response. If they tune him out this quickly start the fire sale of anyone who doesn’t buy in!

    Last year petty play was somewhat excusable with bad line mates and playing with tendonitis. Anyone whos had it knows how much it sucks. This season, he says hes healthy and has better line mates. Hes playing really well defensively but offensively its been very rough.

  • @100bruinsrule
    @100bruinsrule День назад +4

    The biggest problem with the bruins right now is that their offense is non existent. They were seen as a single line team for a while, but that line was Marchy-Bergeron-Pasta, and it got them through a lot of games. Now Bergeron is retired, Marchand is older and recovering from surgeries, and Pasta can’t do it all. Hell, they had Max Jones in their top 6 the other day. They should have saved their money on Zadorov and got an actual winger for their second line.
