Even tho i have the ability to get in the zone i can still fail under pressure but can usually bounce back and recover due to experience
Having started golf late in life pressure for me is to shoot under par in a comp b4 im to old!
So ive been been a couple under after 12 but my course has a hard stretch 13,14 15, which i then fu and shoot 3/4 over!

Look youve either got mental strength, the ability to get in the zone etc or you havent. This is due to genetics and life experience as well as overcoming challenges accepting failures and bouncing back. The key is to be able to harness this ability, this aggression whilst still staying relaxed enough to perform under pressure
I recently won my club mixed ko final despite my partner continually duffing it for 15 holes! and having to give 4 shots to man that could hit it 60yds further But despite a poor 1st tee shot! i knew i was in the zone! i was up for it and hit a lot of my best ever shots, over came my only bit of poor play on 18 and won on the 4th extra hole despite having to give them a shot
But at 65yo i struggle to get pumped up like this for minor comps!

Agree the higher the stakes the less controlled, the more you have to go for it etc but whether that can be learnt if you dont have it not sure but if you have overcome fear in other environments or played competitive sports etc you can draw on this
Eg i can remember the 1st time i completed a high up assault course,it was called a confidence test! the gaps i had to jump etc due to optical illusion looked further than i could jump on ground, but i adopted the geronimo technique completed it and felt like superman, indestructible obviously sensible people would have refused to do it!

A great example if youre old enough is the coconut shy at the fair, you need to throw fast and accurate, even tho you give up control to gain speed, ie release, you are still accurate which is why golf is mainly a throw not a hit

Your first sentence is utter nonsense

@@bilyan5003 dont care what you think i regularly beat golfers that are far younger hit it much further etc etc because they dont have mental strength and resilience
Im sure Rory has spent 000s on mental coaches but still underachieves despite being so talented although maybe he has finally toughened up

Here's an interesting question for you...
I don't keep my score. At the end of a hole I figure out how many shots I took, note it down, and forget it. At any given time during a round I have no idea what my score is.
Do you think that this helps my game or not?

That’s great if you can do that. There’s no way I would not know my score at any given moment
