  • Trans World Sport tells the astonishing story of a group of political prisoners and freedom fighters who found a sense of dignity and joy whilst incarcerated in South Africa's infamous Robben Island through playing football.
Nelson Mandela spent 27 years imprisoned on Robben Island, 18 of those in solitary confinement, and the former president of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, was a player on one of the eight teams in the prison.
Despite all odds and regular torture, beatings, and daily backbreaking hard labour, these extraordinary men turned Soccer into an active force in the struggle for freedom.
