But you have to be very lucky and go to a lot of garage sells. Also sometimes ot happens on ebay but it’s rare, plus, other people usually jump on the product as soon as it’s on the website so yeah. Sorry it was very long
about 13 years ago, when I was a dumb kid, I came across one of the special Famicom themed Gameboy micro's used at Gamestop for $35. I bought it and a traded it to a friend a couple weeks later for an AGS-101 because I wanted a bigger screen. I never thought that after all these years it would be worth $200 - $300.
I love my GBA Micro. Even by today's electronics standards they're tiny and I would say truly pocketable. And when you combine that with a flash cart (I'm personally a Omega guy myself) you literally have EVERY SINGLE GB/GBC/GBA GAME IN YOUR POCKET...yes yes you could use your phone but I need my real buttons. Awesome video. Love to see some more refurbs of the Micro.
I love the gamboy micro!! one interesting fact in the packaging ( in my experience anyways) comes with a template to cut out any picture you want and use it as a faceplate.
Hey man, I just found your channel a few weeks ago, and I have been slightly addicted to your content. I've been learning SO much and have been so inspired to try and tinker with old gameboys now. Amazing quality of content. Keep up the great work and thanks for your art!

I know this is an old comment but I would like to know the name or where can I get the new cartridge or something like that. Also would love to see your edc. I’m always into edc especially if they carry a gb. Do you have a small case for it for when you carry it
I bought a Micro a few years ago from Japan. It is absolutely beautiful, came with a case, and was in perfect shape. The best part is that it a gorgeous purple!
Yeah, the timing was pretty weird. I got one a couple years after the release, when they were still affordable -- great handheld! The screen was amazing
Absolutely love micro! I happened upon mine which had no idea at the time even existed, from a coworker friend from years ago back in 2013. He said he never played it and asked if I wanted it. Said he didn't know if it worked bc he didn't have a charger for it so I got a charger and it worked! Have kept it all this time and play it more than my sp, color, ds lite, or even my dmg and also game gear I've had since 1993. Love your videos man. Keep up the great vids!
I've wanted one of these for YEARS and 2 years ago I managed to get one in Japan in perfect conditions, with box, silver, I think it was for about 80$. I think is perfect with the EZ flash I have, that is smaller and fits perfectly on size. Best Game Boy ever design in my opinion.
1:47 "Now you would imagine that's gonna make this thing very uncomfortable to play on, and technically speaking that is true..." 5:04 "It is also a bit smaller but by no means is it uncomfortable to play on" ???
I've got a flash card in my Gameboy Micro and it's one of my favourite consoles to travel with. Might do a video on it some day. It's a lovely bit of 2000's tech kitsch. I agree though, the flash cart with GB/GBC support is a must. Love the face face plate.
I bought my micro when it was still in the stores, albeit on the closeout end of its run. always amuses me when I hear how much I could get for it if I felt like selling it now. I'll never felt like selling it. its a cool little dude.
Gameboy micro deserve the most to be talked about,to me this was the best thing I ever had going to school and no one knew it was a game or a mini game system 😂
Had one of these when I was doing a lot of business travel. The screen was great and I spent a lot of airport and flight time with it. Loved the portability and responsiveness of this little thing. Saved all the packaging and face plates and made a nice little sum when I sold it during a move. Would, of course, kind of like to have it back but the new generation of emulation handhelds have almost replaced it.
I loved my Gameboy Micro and passed many an hour in college with one. Had it taken when I was burgled 6 years ago unfortunately. I bought it off Ebay for £20 and shocked to see what they are worth now! Can't justify paying that to scratch the nostalgia itch haha
Even though I was born in 2008, I got hand me downs from my older brother, and THIS gives me memories, TMNT, castlevania, rayman, banjo and Mario kart were my favourites
4:33 As for this question, the DS plays your GBA games exactly like the micro, but it doesn’t. You can play *singleplayer* content on the DS, but it doesn’t feature any EXT port for GBA multiplayer. On the other hand, Nintendo made a link cable specifically for the Game Boy micro (and I believe they also made an adapter for other models), so you can at least still play multiplayer content on the micro. Plus, with GBA games still coming out frequently, continuing to manufacture GBA systems for sale at a lower price than a DS (about a $50 difference) was a good bet. That said, the fact that the price of a SP and a micro are pretty similar, despite the feature set being much more barren on the micro? Yeah, in that case, I *do* wonder why they bothered with pouring R&D into the micro in the first place, rather than just giving the AGS-101 a worldwide release.
I've wanted a Micro for so long. One of these days I'll get one. I was hoping to find one at a thrift store and/or swap meet but now I guess that's out the window 😒
I lost mine some many years back, just yesterday I found one in perfect shape at a game shop in my old home town… I want all the games.. this is my fav gameboy by far
The Game Boy Micro is something I always had a bit of an interest in, but never really enough to pick one up. Like you said, it came out at the same time as the DS, and it wasn't backwards compatible. Something about the aesthetic of it and the extremely pocketable form factor though always stood out to me as being nice though. I may have to pick one up at some point as a sort of curiosity piece.
I have a Gameboy Micro that I impulse bought from an FYE store going out of business many years ago around when it came out! I still have it but I lost the proprietary AC adapter but now knowing that you can buy a cable that cheap. It’s game time baby. 😈
Bruh what the heck you just blew my mind I had one of these my entire childhood and never knew about the brightness thing i think it was on full brightness my whole life 😂
I miss my micro so much. I let my friend borrow it and the following week his house got robbed and it was taken. Provided so many hours of joy with pokemon and yugioh. RIP my good friend
My micro is new from 2005, I rarely play it, and when I do... the battery STILL WORKS! I'm surprised this battery from 2005 still works, am I blessed?!
Just found my gameboy micro while moving some old stuff around. Ordered a charger and got all my old GBA games lined up... Despite it being smaller, it is at least backlit, unlike 90% of SPs you'll find for sale online which are model ags-001.
bought one of these back when they were new for my old girlfriend who never played games before, i remember being kinda jealous of the form factor and the changeable faceplate. very cool system
I actually started selling all my game boys recently and came across my game boy micro and was like huh... I like the size of this! And now I use the ez flash omega and bring it with me everywhere!
I love the thing but as I get older the small screen and small size becomes more and more difficult. With some cheap reading glasses each pixel looks gorgeous and it's lovely to play.
I've got a hot pink one and it's probably my favourite portable console just for looks and the GBA game library. So good for travelling with a good long game!
Game boy micro is so underrated. Many great memories of playing worms with friends in study hall or metroid fusion on my own. I ordered early from Japan (famicom version) because I was so excited about it.
I think a fan so is one of the ultimate handhelds on the go. Just get three games and your gba sp and you have enough to keep busy. But this is smart too, using a game boy micro with the gba flash card.
This thing has always amazed me before and after picking one up but now with the ever drive mini out there this thing is right up there with a soft modded Vita for the best portable handhelds to me
Finally found one! I searched for 9 months and I walked into my local game store and I seen it from a mile away. With the original faceplates and charger no box but whatever. 280 Canadian. My collection was empty without this.
This is the gameboy I never understood. My friend had one and said he couldn’t trade me a mew (I used to be on a hunt for it during my childhood fire red days), because the gameboy micro didn’t have a trade cable port. I did end up getting one mint, boxed on eBay many years later for £30, so cheap looking back, I still have it boxed, never used it much but it did give me a new perspective on this, it’s a great console, well built and the screen is amazing! It’s just a shame it was so small and didn’t have that trade port which made me so sad during my childhood.
The thing that's hardest to find a replacement for is the charging port. You'd have to buy an entire new motherboard if just the charging port is broken, although you can just use USB-C ports and rig something up to work with link cables. Possibly.
Most underrated Gameboy at the time. I think if they had made the screen slightly larger it would have been a bigger hit. It's by far the most portable and the screen, despite being small, looks fantastic for the time. The sound is decent but has a built in headphone jack. It's my favorite truly portable handheld. I just want to get 2 of them. One which I can save in my collection and keep in pristine condition and one that I really use and am not as concerned about carrying around to play. With the flashcart or not these systems are amazing. It's surprisingly comfortable for its small size. The main issue I had, again, was the small screen and long play sessions.
The micro came out before the DS. I bought my micro at gamestop and the guy was trying to convince me to wait for a DS. I ended up going back the next day to trade up to the new micro instead of a used one. Anyway, in gaming it is similar to a ps2 getting slim , stripped versions before the release of the ps3. The GBA platform also has gamecube/wii connectivity options that made it ADVANCE vs just color improvement (8bit/16bit/32bit). When I play Mario Kart Super Circuit, it blows my mind that it's technically better cpu and graphics than a super Nintendo, and pocket sized! Yeah, the micro was peak for GBA. I had a gameboy (and eventually a gbc and gameboy player), so i did not mind that the micro didn't have backward compatibility. but now everdrives exist in gba format and it is nice to see it can give my micro new life.
Nice video. I found my game boy micro again 2 weeks ago, still working and in all most perfect condition with only al little scratch in the bottom left corner. Replaying some games on it right now😁
I recently bought the Famicom version of this (CIB) from a Japanese eBay seller. Paid a pretty penny for it since it's a collector's item, but having it in my hands now makes it all worth it!
I remember seeing a You a Tube video by some guy once who bought a Gameboy Micro as there ONLY console, purely due to its tiny size. It has its fan club for sure. Mind you many will have the Switch as there only console.
I did look at the Micro for use when hiking, but i figured my dead AGS-101 actually would work better because of the bigger size and clamshell design. I still want a Micro though, i remember falling in love with the famicom edition after seeing one at the playground as a kid.
No lie, it'd be sweet to own a pink GameBoy Micro, especially with a pink of that kind. Usually when I hear "Pink console" it's the pearl pink GBA and light pink DS Lite that come to mind, but this one is actually impressive and pleasing to look at.
Great little handheld. I bought one when they were out, only used it twice to be honest so it's sat in it's box on the shelf. At least it's still mint! Thought I'd drag it out but the screen is just too small for my 50 year old eyes....too proud to get glasses!
So around 6-7 years ago I found one inside of a box in my garage I never thought about it too much and a couple years later I found it again and told my brother about it and he said my cousin gave it to him so I finally went to an old game store and they sold me a charger and a video game and later I bought Pokémon fire red and ruby and I put 70 hours+ into it and I still love it
I bought a GB Micro back in 2005 when first released. I had it for 2 days, took it back and bought a DS for $30 more lol. It was pretty cool but the DS made more sense since it also played GB games.
yeah, all the accessories/mods for the gameboy micro are fairly cheap but it would have been nice to mention that the system itself costs hundreds of dollars. i had one of these when i was a kid and lost it somewhere when i moved a long time ago and it would be nice to still have it knowing that its worth so much money lol
I really, really enjoyed making this video. I hope you like it!

The green Gameboy micro was my first Gameboy I got when I was like 5 or 6 and I still have it :)
The Micro is my favorite system, honestly
This is one of the coolest handhelds ever made.
I just ordered one, this'll be the second time I own one.
Mine is coming tomorrow I think its such a cool system
Great little handheld. I bought one when they were out, only used it twice to be honest so it's sat in it's box on the shelf. At least it's still mint! Thought I'd drag it out but the screen is just too small for my 50 year old eyes....too proud to get glasses!
I love the Micro, I got one of the Famicom colored ones for 80 bucks at goodwill. I love it!
Your the best RUclipsr bro
Thank you!
So around 6-7 years ago I found one inside of a box in my garage I never thought about it too much and a couple years later I found it again and told my brother about it and he said my cousin gave it to him so I finally went to an old game store and they sold me a charger and a video game and later I bought Pokémon fire red and ruby and I put 70 hours+ into it and I still love it
Thanks for letting me know about the charger being different. I just bought one from eBay today and it didn’t come with a charger.
I had a pink micro and it was my first gaming device and i adored it
I bought a GB Micro back in 2005 when first released. I had it for 2 days, took it back and bought a DS for $30 more lol. It was pretty cool but the DS made more sense since it also played GB games.
Yup it’s funny that it release at the same time when ds release. Micro should have release in 2004 instead
yeah, all the accessories/mods for the gameboy micro are fairly cheap but it would have been nice to mention that the system itself costs hundreds of dollars. i had one of these when i was a kid and lost it somewhere when i moved a long time ago and it would be nice to still have it knowing that its worth so much money lol
I just got my micro in the mail today and it's way cuter than I expected
The design reminds me of those digital photo keychains from around the same time
