    My husband and I just moved to 27 of acres in W North Carolina. We are trying to live as off-the-land as possible. We are going to try and build a small log cabin for our goats first, then hopefully for ourselves.thank you for generously sharing your wisdom. It is truly priceless.

    Thank you for posting again. Our homestead is almost complete (April '18) and this video re-inspired me to look forward to adventures when we are living on our dream home in rural NC. Its been 2.5 years building our home and I am quite ready to live the good life. Your videos inspire and motivate me while we wait. Thank you for what you do. I can't wait to start my pole shed/workshop and many other projects.

    LOL, that bagpipe will put every cat within a mile in heat LOL. Building a log chicken house? What is a log chicken? This new video just made my day. Thank you for posting it. I really enjoy your videos. I hope you caulk between the logs carefully to help keep unwanted critters like skunks, weasels, etc. out of the log chicken house. You would be surprised how small a crack they can squeeze through. I'm sure your log chickens will really appreciate it. Please keep the videos coming. They are excellent!

    I've been looking forward to your next video and I really enjoyed watching this. I just built my kids a playhouse last fall and when you got to the rafters I vividly remembered that moment when I too had to build a jig. I used standard lumber but a lot of the techniques and methods are the same. I really enjoy the fact that what you build is sourced in such a way that one could truly do it themselves. that sense of self reliance is what is inspiring to me.

      Thanks for the response! I did share some of your videos around in numerous places, facebook, other channels, & some online game friends that I have in chat who are from many parts of the world. For some it was the stone flooring that really appealed to them in learning a new lifetime skill. For others it was the opportunity for a good time with your humor & your scarecrow/crow antics, for the Canadian game developers I mentioned your high tech gourds! I enjoyed everything, I am sure many of them will also continue to share your videos with many different cultures.

    You might consider the use of a "spud" when peeling logs. It's much saver than the use of an axe and faster. I hope you seasoned your rafters prior to raising them. Another suggestion: peeling the bottom sill logs helps to limit the invasion and infestation of grubs, ants and the like. I'm glad to see that you are helping resurrect the old ways of doing for oneself that was most common in my youth.

    Don't recall the last time I was this excited to watch another man work.
    I think you should be happy with the new Stihl. My dad's had one since the 70s and it still hums right along. Thought about getting one myself, but to my surprise Dad said don't. He figures that if I need any cutting done, he can do it being only a 3 1/2 hour drive away. I think he gets a little too excited to have an excuse to do some cutting. "Besides," he said, "when I'm gone you'll get this one." Can't argue with that logic.

    Peeling with a draw knife rather than a broad axe may have been easier. Nice work.

    • @farmhandscompanion
      @farmhandscompanion  6 лет назад

      Actually Jason, the broad axe is easier for me.
      The heavier weight of the axe head gives momentum for the peel (just kind of lettin' it drop on the pole). Plus I don't have to bend over, or lift the pole higher to use with the drawknife.
      Thanks for watchin'!
