Glad you managed to visit, hope you get again for sure. You’re right the cafe is great and very busy. Lovely wee spot. Thanks for watching and saying hi. Ix
@@ionamacinnes1935 we were up in the Orkneys a month ago and loved those islands too. I love that each island have their own character, actually tempted to move to one of the Scottish isles.
@@IonaMacinnes Northern England so quite away up there, our plans have to take into account a couple of older family members. When we were on Barra we were chatting to a lady in the community shop in Castlebay and also a couple of ladies that were in the museum. All of them were very friendly and welcoming and happy to chat about island life. My main concern would be prejudice towards new comers or English. Visiting the different islands we are spoiled for choice in a way about moving. I was chatting to a lady in Kirkwall who actually moved up there from just a few miles away from where we live. She had a lovely story about the day after she moved in, her neighbour spoke her and asked if she had wanted to move there? She answered yes and the neighbour said “then you’re Orcadian”. What a lovely way to be welcomed.
@dieselbushcraft1299 All the ladies in Buth Bharraigh are lovely & I dont think any of them are original from Barra. Never seen any prejudice towards English around the Islands so you'll be fine. I noticed on Rum, I didn't see any Scottish folk working or about the Island, all English so maybe all the English chased the Scots over to Canna haha!! I'd be looking at the ferry links to the mainland, which ones are more reliable which automatically rules out South Uist. That ferry link is the worst in Scotland. The infrastructure in Lewis is far superior to that of other Western Isles but the prices reflect that and property is expensive. Awe nice Orkney lady, making these people very welcome. They have a good link to Mainland, lovely shops, great hikes and stuff going on up there, not a bad shout. Hard decision isn't it, I know. Ix
@DirtyWindshieldSeries hello, thanks for watching and enjoying the scenery and of course for messaging me to say, I really appreciate when someone takes the time to message me, especially this video which was a bit tricky to edit and Im still learning so thank you. Where abouts are you based? There's always a breeze in the Hebrides, to quote Tidelines "I want to feel the breeze of the Hebrides from the far side of the world". Far side of the world song by Tidelines, one of my favourite Scottish bands. Ix
Enjoying an Iona video night this Sunday evening, what a lovely video, music, history, some happy some sad, fantastic scenery, my wine is going down well. The Catalina crash site remains are a sad but sort of living memorial to those three who gave their all. Guess another glass and another Iona vid. Have a great week. Xx
@ericthearfaviking7579, I hope you dont wake up with a sore head....after all wine, nothing to do with all the Iona chat haha. This video was hard to edit as I've said to others before, just so much beach and beautiful scenery everywhere. I'm still to do the East side, going to hire a bike and cycle round. Thank you, you too! Ix
@IonaMacinnes Of course it will be your fault :-) I'm chuckling away at Carliway Broch video, who'd have ever thought spending a penny could be soooo funny. Best wishes x
Cracking shots of beautiful Barra Iona. The airport was really busy with three planes on the beach, first time ever seeing that, I think you can go to Barra for the day from Glasgow, I must try that sometime. I think the remains of the plane crash should be cleared for a proper stone memorial. Thanks again for a beautiful video Iona. 🙏👍 like 65.
@daviemcf och Barra is so beautiful its easy to get lost in the beaches, sea, and before you know it you've got hours of film. You can go for a day trip but they have increased their prices quite a lot so it's rather expensive to do this trip now compared to 2 years ago even. Still cool to do but you'd need to hire a car on the other side then to see Vatersay etc as the buses are pretty dire. I think it's cool even seeing the plane land and taking off again. Let me know if you do it for sure. Ix
Oh wow another fabulous video Iona! I've not seen the castle before and all that information about it was fascinating, I would deffo want to go on that boat trip! This isle has so much 'call' to people (it's calling me!) I think it's the incredible beaches, the white sand, turquoise sea, everyone wants to go there. I would love to land on the beach! I know I keep on saying it, but I just love your videos, myself and a friend just can't wait for each new one! Another friend subbed to you last night, he thought you were Great 😍
Ah, yes this was so good to film but so hard to edit. I took so much beach footage it could have been 4hrs long! Sitting about the beaches just so quiet and relaxed. I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and so did your friend, amazing! Hello to my new subscriber, and thanks for watching. I can't believe how many people have subscribed now, it's great. Yes you should fly to Barra for sure, but wait until the boats are back on to get round the castle. I'm looking forward to cycling it so that'll be end October early November I should hope. Thanks again for messaging and your support sharing my channel with your friends. Ix
