I started using vinegar and baking soda 30 years ago when I was om food stamps in the US. These items are used in cooking and therefore were covered under the program. And I have continued to use them along with dish soap, Murphys oil soap ànd lysol cleaner made from cioncintrate and put in a recycled spray bottle. I buy quality products after wasting money on the cheaper stuff that didn't work. I also reuse things like glass jars and buy second hand furniture and clothes when possible.
Girlfriend, you are constantly adding value to my life. Thanks. I am currently in a country that has food that I don't like and it's expensive. So one tip that I can give you is to cook at home. Not just cook at home but batch cook. My batch meals are handy on days I don't want to cook. I also never cook one meal at a time. I cook a meal for the day, while cooking an additional meal or prep another daysmeal. Thanks again for all you do.
We hang up most of our laundry on a clothes line instead of using the dryer. This has helped to dramatically cut the cost of our electricity. I usually grocery shop twice a month, make meal plans every week, batch cook often as needed, do a lot of home cooking, rarely go out to eat, and cut back on the amount of meat we eat at meals as well as have meatless days. I also find if I schedule certain days for various cleaning routines, I give myself free time to relax and enjoy the day. A person should not be a slave to the house, but needs time to recharge and refresh.
Great tips! I’ve been using your DIY recipe of baking soda, dish soap and essential oil to clean my bathtub for years now! One way I have been saving money is also by eating out less and making EVERYTHING at home; from cookie doughs, cakes, ice cream, meals, you name it! I am a professional chef after all 😂
Unfortunately where i am, meat and produce and healthy cooking at home is more expensive than eating out. I believe that is by design but eating healthy at home is also expensive unless you eat pasta all week
I've been making my own all-purpose cleaner for years, and I love that I can change the smell to whatever I feel like by adding a couple drops of essential oils to it.
I use mostly DIY cleaners and that helps. I don’t go out to eat. I don’t eat fast food. I don’t like pizza very much so that doesn’t cost. I cook daily. There are things I refuse to buy off brand and like you laundry detergent is one. I used Tide for years. My mom used it. But I now use Persil liquid. It works really well and has a mild fragrance. The one store bought cleaner I use is Pine-Sol. I use it really diluted. I haven’t used the blue window cleaner since I found you website. Vinegar and alcohol and water with a few drops of essential oil is unbeatable for me. And I use your recipe for tile floor cleaner and love it. Take care everyone.
Hey Melissa, I took your advice decades ago (not saying you're old. You are not), and mixed dish soap and vinegar, Its great! Before that, I used vinegar and plastic wrap to prevent evaporation. It worked, but it cost money. Also, I use a mix of bleach and water (5:1 water) which I believe is on the bleach bottle. It has deteriorated and needs more bleach now, due to oxidation? I don't know. Something. It's just not strong anymore. That's it. All good. I do love your channel, so please keep up the good work! I hope you all enjoy your holidays.
I charge me EV and run my dishwasher after 9pm. I have cleaning products that have probably gone bad since I starting watching your channel because I make my own now. I’ve also invested in good spray bottles and no longer try to “make it work” with the old broken sprayers!
I save the water that runs when I wait for the water to get warm when I shower. I get 2 liters of water which I then use to either wash my vegetables, soak greasy dishes, or water my plants. I also unplug my appliances when not in use especially when I'm traveling.
Yes! Also while I run the kitchen tap. Depending on your mobile data plan and need for internet access (WhatsApp or emergency alerts) at night, you can unplug your router (WiFi) during the night, that otherwise is on 24/7.
Definitely making diy products. I was a bit hesitant at first, but your solutions work so well and have already saved me TONS of money. I’m trying not to go out as much as well as use less product for dish soap, body wash, etc. It’s easy to use too much and a lot of times less is more.
i switched to working a night shift, I not only make more money hourly but I'm also too tired during the day to shop. No where is open to eat out going too or from work or on my lunch break so i have to bring my own from home
Melissa I went teetotal as well, and guess what, I feel fantastic for it ! Who needs booze?! Budget sparkling water and some fresh lemon juice in a nice glass is an anytime treat
I cut my bounce dryer sheets in half, I wash laundry in cold as much as possible. I wait until I have a full load to wash before starting the washer. I maintain my cleaning tools. I leave the washer door open.
I live in Scandinavia and we have different infrastructure, taxes and laws. We don’t drink coffee anymore. I don’t have car anymore. I’ve learned to make our favourite foods by myself (cookies, subway, hamburgers, sushi etc). We buy most of our food local (from our country/county). We buy seasonal fruits and vegetables We take better care of our teeth and health and take our daily supplements We exercise (I walk or cycle daily) I make most of our clothes and repair our old ones I boil water and have thermos. This way I dont have to boil it again for multiple times. I use it for tea, porridge and noodles. We have low room temperature and we use wool socks, pullovers, cardigans and blankets to keep us warm.
I DIY my multipurpose cleaner that I got the recipe from your video. It has saved me lots of 💰 💰 💰 I bought an amber glass bottle, placed a label on it, and voilà….my own multipurpose cleaner. Your videos are life savers. Thank you! 🙏🏽 😊 ☺️ 👩🏽 🧹 🐈⬛ 🎃
I don't order through delivery apps any more, we're having more home cooked meals instead of going out to eat or purchasing pre-made meals. I'm learning how to take better care of what we have. I'm being a lot more judicious when I do make a purchase -- I let it sit in my amazon cart for a while, find opinions on the best of the item I'm going to purchase, and I also make sure I actually need it and can't make do with what I already have.
I love the cleaning videos. They are streamlining my time and fine tuning my cleaning budget as a senior. Although I do have a question. Being a senior, I remember a time when there was no plastic or at least very little. I am exploring something I used to use before. Bar shampoo /body wash. I had given up trying to find until they resurfaced. Now something my grandmother talked about was bar dish soap. This would cut down on the largest contributor to plastic in our house but unsure of the quality. Would this fall in your wheelhouse? Could still be used in your recipes.
I bought a 10 liter container of dish soap. It saves some plastic. Not sure about bar soap being practical in that regard, I use it for every other personal use otherwise. Again, bought a 18-piece cardboard box of them, very good price and quality. It's become something of a sport to save money while caring for our environment as well!
I've been shopping my pantry and freezer before making a grocery list. I have lunch out most week days (I do field work most of the time that makes bringing lunch impractical), but I rarely have chips/fries now. For sit down restaurants I've stopped ordering tea/soda unless I'm really craving it. If I want a pizza with extra cheese, I'll get the special cheese lover's and add a topping or two instead of ordering a topping plus extra cheese. Some places will let you order different toppings per side without charging more also (like 2 toppings on one side, 2 different toppings on the other side).
Really liked this video! Nothing terribly new in terms of ideas, but great reminders of how to reign in costs (every bit adds up!). I have to agree with you on laundry detergent. I had been making mine at home for a couple of years. It works well on lightly soiled laundry and for that I will probably continue to use it. HOWEVER … For heavily soiled and smelly items such as workout clothes it just can’t get those body oils out and clothes will develop a persistent funk that not even the sanitize cycle and bleach will get rid of. Through a lot of research, I found that Tide Hygienic Clean works the best - and I can use it in cold water and still get great results!
Years ago I stopped using (Nespresso) capsules because the waste drove me crazy. (Yes, they claim to recycle them, but aluminum is still very energy-intensive to produce and recycle.) Then I bought coffee beans that I ground at home. Until they became super expensive 2 or 3 years ago, even before the war and inflation. Then I switched to grains (instant) coffee. Quite tasty and very affordable. I will occasionally get a Starbucks to go as a treat. 🤗
What am I doing to save money…not taking a winter trip down south…making all my cleaning products with your recipes (and a couple of others that I have found online…example a dawn powerwash recipe that works wonders)…cut out my Sunday morning breakfast at the restaurant…only thing I’m not scimping is on food - yes I have done like you, changed grocery store but I will not cut off the pleasure of making and eating a good himemade meal.
I have a diy for an all-purpose cleaner that I use for everything. Into a large spray bottle, I add 1 cup of each vinegar, alcohol and water. Add a squirt or two of Dawn, about 10-12 drops of tea tree essential oil (a great natural disenfectant), and 10-12 drops of lemon essential oil. The alcohol helps the liquid dry faster. I use it on floors, walls, just about everything ❤
Great tips but it makes me feel guilty for buying ready-made stuff, like Flash kitchen spray etc. (I’m in the UK) I use Fairy non bio pods & they are great for my sensitive skin. I also use their washing up liquid.
Hi there, fellow, Canadian, and a new subscriber I’m loving your videos I’m also curious, where did you get that large yellow mug sitting on your counter? 🤗❤️🇨🇦
To save money on gas in my car, I batch errands, make a list so I don't forget anything, and drive 55mph (88kmph) when I can on the freeway and fill up when my tank is at 50%.
I shop the discount stores before going to the supermarket or big box stores for groceries and cleaning products. I chose not to decorate this year for Halloween to save electricity. I'm cooking more at home and monitoring the sale ads for stock-up items.
It’s not much better here in the US! I have been shopping online and doing grocery pick up so I don’t spend more money at the grocery store than need be cuz groceries are ridiculously expensive now! 😒
We have stopped eating out or take out. The quality has gone down and the prices have gone up. I make my own house house cleaners. We shop at Costco a lot. Our family is big so we just share bulk purchases and we go every 2 weeks
A great video but perhaps not a good idea to leave the door of your washing machine open. It's not the first time a small pet animal (usually a cat) gets into the washing machine and if someone is in a hurry and just pushes a load of clothes into the machine, a disaster can occur.

Me too! I’d never even thought of making it myself till I watched this channel 😊
I live in an apt complex for older adults.
One resident is providing sheet laundry detergent in our laundry room for all to use.
Thank You, Nancy!

I cut my own, my husband’s, and my toddler boy’s hair. We also recently gave up coffee. No more afternoon crash!
Always great tips in your vdo..
Keep posting.. thank you

Nice one! Also a big fan of hot water bottles. Keeping your body warm is much cheaper than heating up the whole room/house.

Do the essential oils leave an oily film?
Do you use it on vinyl floors?
No, they do not. You're only using a few drops
Great tips but it makes me feel guilty for buying ready-made stuff, like Flash kitchen spray etc. (I’m in the UK)
I use Fairy non bio pods & they are great for my sensitive skin. I also use their washing up liquid.
I‘m trying to learn meal planning 😇; I throw away way too much food, I never know what to cook, and I end up with take away way too often each week 🙈
Hi there, fellow, Canadian, and a new subscriber
I’m loving your videos
I’m also curious, where did you get that large yellow mug sitting on your counter? 🤗❤️🇨🇦
I do use some of your dyi - stock pile on certain things - I do reuse some of the bottles .

I've read that the vinegar and dish detergent cancel each other out. Is that true?
We use the dryer very little.
Nice video God bless

I need help creating a good degreaser 😮
Eating out only one meal per week, not buying clothes I do not need, keeping the heat low and putting on a sweatshirt.
👏
Have you ever thought of doing a video on the best laundry soap what is the best bang for the buck
I think she generally endorses Tide
Amway for my money. 1...10 lb box lasts 2 or more ..years!

Hi there sweetie pie hope you are well great ideas always look forward to see your videos love from Eugenie your friend xxx 🎃🎄🌹✨🌞
I need a good degreaser thank you

It is not a good idea to have towels on bar on stove, it really is a fire hazard.
