I remember listening to Garsed and Helmerich "Quid pro quo" album...and wow! It was impressive the clean, accurate and tasteful licks by this man. What a genius!!
@@yngwiemalmsteen5376 I know, crazy isn't it? TJ is a far more interesting player for me. Gilbert was good with Racer X,but his writing and playing after that have been pretty samey.
@@yngwiemalmsteen5376 because he cant pick like a god, because he cant shred at multiple epic rhythmic proportions , he doesnt breathe music like gilbert. he could never write hits pieces like gilbert did in mr big. Paul Gilbert is a worldwide top 5 virtuoso for a reason, a G3 player for a reason
TJ is one of those strange cases of a very gifted man, or should probably say a genius, who has never been understood: to my opinion it is straightfoward, but life is strange....
Commercial success has nothing to do with talent, effort or quality it's just about having the right contacts and people that want to make money on you pushing your career
Sensational, of course one of the best fusion guitarists on this planet, especially with his tapping technique, but everything else is also world class, phrases, bending. Unfortunately, this outstanding guitarist has been lost to guitar fans because he works mainly as a producer or sound engineer... I would have loved to have seen him live in Germany. But that wasn't possible with Garsed or him. So you have to console yourself with older stuff. At least you can still find something on RUclips and the older stuff, as far as it was available on CD or DVD at the time, was of course bought....

This guy was totally missed unheard of during the eighties. So was jason becker but gained popularity later. Shawn lane was never mentioned in black oak Arkansas late 70s , by the time recorded album in mid late eigties on shrapnal it was to late. Paul gilbert, micheal angelo yngyang were out, no one could deny jason becker. What i dont understand is these guys couldve tried david lee roth, ozzy, etc?
@@Johnnyriko barely plays anything besides that two handed tapping , ahh so intresting lol. Gilbert does crazy tappings too, did a lot of stuff in his prime doesnt mean he has to do it all the time, helmerich simply just accepts gilbert as a way superior player lmao
TJ Helmerich & Brett Garsed
The biggest forgotten guitarists by the so-called guitar magazines !
Fortunately we got ears ..
Brett Garsed is featured frequently in Guitar Techniques Magazine.
And Joe Stump

Can't believe this is already 15 years ago. What a time!! What a solo!!!
very melodic and tasteful..... UNIQUE and smooth phrasing
Man TJ is such an amazing, tasteful, unique player... what a rare talent!!!
not enough videos of him on youtube
Thanks for posting! Wish he put more stuff online. What a player.
Absolutely brilliant 👍😊🎸
This was the highlight of the entire concert IMO.
was this guy a back up player on tour for Gilbert? how Gilbert hired a guitar player a thousand times better than him for that

Right, Gilbert should've hired Malmsteen instead.

Genio!
oh my god he melted the paint off the walls in that arena
I got a lot of ideas from him for my 8 finger tapping, an unjustly underestimated and unlucky guitarist.
Didn't realise 8 finger tapping gave you biceps to die for.🤣🤣🤣
do you have the whole thing? not just TJs solo?

cut out all the shit chords tho. absolute mastery of the instrument.
Quite a bit rough and ametuer sounding.
