Thanks for another really interesting video. It is always good when a tool performs well. On the vise slipping. I will get that when I load the vise on my mill too much to one end, and by that I mean the work piece is not as long as the vise jaws are. The remedy is to clamp a similar sized part in the other end of the vise jaws. You may want to rig up a supplementary jaw that insures pressure at both ends of the vise jaws, and only at the ends.
Nice little machine👍🏻👍🏻. Up in southern Ontario Canada we are pretty mush the same in humidity in the spring and summer, especially when our shops don’t have air conditioning 🥵. Loved the conn copper bell 18H trombone. I have one that I’m thinking of selling it .picked it up at antique shop in town that was in good shape, slide is perfect the only problem was dents in the tuning slide and the goose neck was pulled out and unsolder at the brace and receiver.looking to find a used case for it at a good inexpensive price. And also for your other audience out there that was a conn 14 D single horn made in the mid seventies, and the trombone was made in the late sixties very early seventies.😜This Portuguese Canuck knows🤪🤪🤪
@@wesleemusicrepair9820 That would be great. Perhaps how you organize tools Much appreciated. No rush, only when you've got some free time and/or if you think others might be interested. Thank you.
It seems like a small helm would be ideal to replace the bar across the top of the tensioning screw. Then you are always reaching in where you want to rather than finding the bar knob. Or even an old Cadillac steering wheel? For class you know.
Boa tarde, pena que no Brasil não achamos essas ferramentas, e como só existe uma empresa de ferramentas, ela cobra valores absurdos. In the afternoon, it's a pity that in Brazil we don't find these tools, and as there is only one tool company, it charges absurd values
Morning Wes!! Really enjoyed your Mini Z video. Would you be able to tell me what is included with the Mini Z? The first shoe you used.....what is the item number for it? Oh!! You had a video on making parts with a 3D printer. Can you tell me what I would need to make a linkage rod for a really old Conn 8d?
Here is link to the Mini Z package. If I remember correctly first shoe I put on was a powerdisc. www.ferreestoolsinc.com/products/z60m-mini-z-vise-mounted-dent-machine-starter-package In yesterday’s trumpet repair, I used that powerdisc and a cone roller. Here is link to that: ruclips.net/video/4cmR0UmUwOI/видео.html For 3D printing, we started with monoprice brand, now we use Creality Ender 3, and it seems to yield better results. We print con pla, design in tinkercad , slice with Cura. After printing I machine a stud to insert that I can screw into. Hope this helps, thanks for watching and commenting!
Is Johnson paste wax similar to cosmoline I don't think they use it anymore it was used for Packaging metal automotive parts it was never used for a shine but I was just wondering if there is similarities to them if maybe they were made by the same company at one time
Hi Wes, just found your RUclips channel and am enjoying it very much. I've been repairing band instruments on a budget for 45 years and I'm jealous of your shop full of incredible tools! I am gratified however to see that you use the same techniques I have always used. I'm curious about your soldering torch set up. What are you using? It looks like a propane cylinder and maybe oxygen too. Can you tell me the specifics? And where you got the system? Keep it up my man!
Greetings WES ;). I am an avid watcher , since finding your channel . My first of many questions is = Do you know of any books on the Making of tools ? and since I am just beginning my saxophone repair endeavors ..... I find it just sooo awesome to see your process ! How long have you been at this ? All for now , Tim Portland , Oregon
Thanks for following along. Yes, there are many books on tool making, skills building, etc. I’m sure there are some at your library, book store, there are even vintage books on Amazon. I have a book on old school hand tools. But I also watch a lot and file things away, then when a problem occurs, I think about the tool I need to make to get the job done. I also find studying metallurgy and what the difference in the steels to be used helpful in toolmaking. Good luck!
Hey Wes, very happy to have found your channel - and I'm currently watching the sh1t out of it. About your new dent machine - are you familiar with the tool known as an "English wheel"? Your new tool is very similar in form & concept, with a few differences as the two designs have somewhat different purposes. Both are for forming sheet metal, though.
That is hard work. Thanks for the demo.
By the way I don't play an instrument or even own one but your RUclips channel has me hooked on how you fix things very interesting

Another fine tool from the folks at Ferree Stools! ;-)
Saludos maestro Wes. Te habrás acordado de dejarle unas golosinas a los renos de Santa, por tu nuevo juguete, claro. Que lo disfrutes. 🤙
Love it! Keep kicking A, Wes Lee.
Man, you're so damn cool. Thanks for these videos.

Hi Wes. Would you perhaps consider doing a video that shows/describes the gray cart you made to hold all of your mandrels?
Sure I can do that.
