Day in the life of a Meta/Facebook intern (Seattle 2022)

- Follow along for a day in the life of an intern at Meta/Facebook. Featuring a special intern Q&A with Mark Zuckerberg days after being told that return offers would be delayed.
I spent my 2022 Summer in Seattle working on Facebook Marketplace. In my role as a Product Technical Program Manager (pTPM) intern, I had the opportunity to own growth experiments to increase Young Adult usage of the platform. As 1/11 pTPMs, we are a small cohort scattered across the SF, Menlo Park, Seattle, and NYC offices. Because of this, I spend a lot of time surrounded by my friends interning as Software Engineers, Data Scientists, and Product Designers.
Fresh off the news that return offers would be delayed and be given on a rolling basis, many of us were worried about still having a job for when we graduate and enter full-time roles. Join us to see what unfolds over the course of a hectic, but memorable day.

Cool vid Justin.
I'm currently majoring in marketing and considering switching to software dev. I think you did just that right?
Can you tell us about what lead you to that choice as well as how you managed to go this far?
I used to be enrolled in Film Studies before switching into Computer Science in University - though generally, I think our paths are pretty similar!
For me, I've always been really interested in making things and code (especially front-end web development) was a way for me to bring designs to life. My path consisted of a lot of hackathons, personal projects, and building up the fundamentals of software dev. I will say that being enrolled in a CS program does help a lot in forcing me to learn the technical aspects, though 90% of the practical knowledge I have comes from things outside of class!
For anyone looking to break into these roles, I'd always recommend finding problems that you can solve through code, build something, and iterate on your ideas. Building things that people use is a massive green flag and fantastic story to tell during interviews.
Hope this helps :)
Whats the name of the song in the beginning lyrics are like" right here talk down stay low" or Something like that
Very cool video Justin! I want to transition into CS, and Meta is my dream company. Do you have any tips for breaking into the industry?
Thanks! I’d definitely say show passion for the field and understand how tech products are built. That can be done through projects, hackathons, or even building a technical solution to a problem you’re having.
Good luck :)
Don't dream of working at a company, yikes..
first SWE DITL video on a kelly wakasa, elliot choy, nicolas chae level. cinematic, well cut. surprised 600 subs only, but lots of potential here. wish u were at the MPK office so we could link up i need friends w cameras 🥺
Damn I appreciate it man 🙏 maybe someday I’ll be down in MPK!
Please tell me where the office is in Berlin, the purpose of the Facebook company, at what address is it located? And how does the procedure itself go, how can you contact support after arriving at the office, because in our country it does not work through the website, you need to unblock the page.
Nice video!
Thanks!!
Who are the people that handle disabled accounts?
🔥🔥🔥
Miss this guy 🫡
Mumbai, best place on earth - JY❤️🙌
Is it real that they take just top 40 percent interns as fulltime? Companies like MS take more I think
Sorry for the late response - but you receive a rating at the end that determines whether you get a return offer. In the past it was pretty high similar to MS, but it is team/headcount dependent now!
Did you get return? I’m so curious
My intern class (Technical PMs) haven't heard back yet, so still TBD
😂
When’s the “Day in the life of a Meta New Grad” dropping tho?
+1
Fingers crossed for all of us 🤞
Hy man. I am pursuing BTech in aerospace engineering. Right now I am in my 4th year. But I have a change in heart. I do want to go in IT industry. I don't have any prior knowledge in programming language. Any suggestions for me , how can I reach to that point to join in a company like yours?
Hey! I was in the same boat and switched from Marketing/Design into Software Engineering/Product. What I'd say is to learn as much as you can about Computer Science fundamentals (i.e. data structures & algorithms, technical systems design, and logic). From there, you can also learn a programming language such as Python or Javascript.
Personally, I'm a "learn by doing" person, so I ended up going to a lot of hackathons and working on personal projects. What I found works best is to try and solve a real world problem through code - it adds an element of practicality and if people actually end up using it, that's even better!
@@JustinZhang Even in my college placement only IT services companies are coming not a single aerospace company. It was really hard for me to get selected by IT services companies like Accenture, cognizant etc. Only coding was the problem for me for passing those assessment tests. After realising I started from the beginning, I am starting with python and C++. Along with that I will be starting data structures too. But it's quite hard and irritating sometimes managing along with aerospace studies as I am not finding that excitement and interest in learning about aerospace. Rather than my interest is inclined towards programming languages day by day even though I'm lacking in it. I am just waiting for my BTech to be over. I will completely devote my time towards the IT industries.
Rip Justin. I really miss that guy
same 🫥
How you got intern at META? Make a video on this.
Nice recommendation! Maybe sometime in the future!
did you guys got fired?
Most of us aren’t returning to meta for full time :’)
@@JustinZhang screw Meta. since you have worked such a big company, it is so easy for you to get job elsewhere.
Hope all ok with these 11,000 lay offs 😮
It was definitely tough on the teams, a lot of interns aren't returning due to hiring freezes :(
Meta interns were absolutely fucked over! Whoever is from the future, hi!
WOW
So you guys eat and play games all day. And go to meetings. Lol
lol got em
I think your camera moves too much
Appreciate the feedback :)
There is no life outside your work
Damn facebook is squeezing every single ounce of your life
It’s not too bad! You definitely can make what you need it to be, though I had a solid 9-5 routine everyday :)
