I often wonder the same. It´s actually a weird reason to believe in God. People say "how can you believe in God when you can´t see him?" Well... did anyone see this spring into being in Morricone´s head? Even if you measured his brain functions, all you´d find would be waves, impulses and various centres being fired up. And then.... out comes THIS. The relation between those brain impulses and THIS is just... words cannot describe it.

Some of the best music ever composed. I was hooked the day my brother forced me to stay awake to watch The Good The Bad and The Ugly when I was sick years old. I was a Johnny Cash fan at the time because he was my Granddad's favorite. Then came this haunting western themed genius score that plays in my head whenever I see the red rocks and landscapes of my home state, Utah. Enjoy captured something unexplainable. That's enough. Now I will just shut up and listen.

The orchestra seems to be made up of people with years and years of experience, and you can hear it. There’s a special sense of occasion you can feel in their faces, and their playing. The lady in red, the man with the oboe who determines if the ectasy of gold sounds like it should, the maestro, and what a backdrop. Feels as special as Pavarotti singing “Vinceró”. Requiescat in pace maestro!

It's so brilliantly composed, some parts of the soundtrack are meant to sound as if a mother was crying over the horrible childhood Tuco had. I "use" it whenever I want to release my grief over a university shooting (first one in my country, in seven hundred years!) where a colleague of mine was shot. It's such a sublime expression of sadness, like angels weeping.

@Christoffer Veng I totally agree. My 9, 7, and 5-year-olds request time and again..."Dad, play,'the good the bad and the ugly.' ". I immediately know which version they mean. They always hum to it. They know the music intimately. What a sound. What a movie. I have watched it at least twenty times over the years. Visitors, to my home, who have never seen it give me the chance to see it again. I always point out that for at least twelve minutes or so, after the start, there is no dialogue. The star is undoubtedly Tuco. If you haven't seen the movie, go watch it. You need 2 hours and 50 minutes

Think of the range of covers that could be done on this piece alone: change the size of the choir, change some instruments, try it with a band of 4, let kids play it in a huge elementary school gym... lol will be played forever.

No other movie that year has been watched more and memorized as much!!!! In fact I can’t even tell you who won the Oscar and who were the nominees!!!

when I was 15 years old I went 3 times on my moped 10 km in the cold evenings of october to see this great western movie. It made a huge impression on me..... I will always consider the Good the Bad and the Ugly the best ever made western movie. Now i understand more wy it is. Because of the great composer Ennio Morricone made the music for it and also my favorite actor Clint Eastwood was in this great movie. THANK YOU ENNIO Mille graci. Lennart from Sweden

Ennio is incredible. He always had a unique signature with his music. Like in the second half of the good the bad the ugly. You can hear a battle being fought by civil war armies. And he made everyone earn their money at the end of ectstacy of gold. They were red faced and huffing. What a workout.
