Amber reduces reflection/glare. I've driven in the fog off and on for 20+ yrs. Amber reduces eye strain and stress. During the summer I'd replace the amber lens with white/clear lens... I remember driving in tule fog. Couldn't see the road but you were sitting in sunshine.... I've driven in fog that formed a tunnel over the road. Like driving in a tunnel that you know doesn't exist. It's Eerie at night. The heat rising from the road causes the fog to lift and go over the road but as the road cools, the fog lowers...
Terrific comparison. I’ve got the SAE ambers from Baja installed on stock 2018 off-road. Was contemplating the switch to driving/combo version. Your video is tough to tell a drastic difference so saved me money.
Love the Baja lights for the Tacoma you are right about the Street legal and off-road light pretty much depends on your state and local law enforcement and DOT regulate headlights and fog light output
I'm planning to get these for my 2020 Offroad, but I'm torn between the sport and SAE. Personally, I'm not worried about the sports being too bright. Here in Ohio every jackass with a truck has a light bar and they run them all the time on the road. Cops couldn't care less. I work nights and my commute is on a couple very dark roads with lots of deer, so I'm leaning toward the Sports. That said, now that I know they are the same exact lights underneath, I may go with the SAE version and see if it's bright enough. If not, I can simply remove the black shield and basically have the sports.
@@drmalenko Did you even read my comment? My primary concern is MY safety. If the cops don't give a sh*t, I certainly don't. In any case, I got rid of this truck, so it's no longer an issue for me.
@@dlg5485 old news and you got rid of truck and all, but there is a good reason those lights are illegal on road. Oncoming drivers are blinded and it can and has caused accidents. Just because cops don't care to do their job doesn't mean we should break laws. Know what I mean?
I’ve ran with my squadron sport on the street but turn them off when around traffic. One of them actually leaked water because O- ring was not in the groove. The water turned the chrome cone black. I am sending the one back to Baja designs for a replacement. I’m not happy about having to send it back before they send another one OR repair this light. It blew the fuse that is on the harness.
I feel like I'm having trouble positioning my sae lights. Everytime I adjust them too high I get little ground coverage. Everytime I adjust then lower I get little distance. It doesn't help that I had to custom mount them. I did expect them to be a little brighter especially with how yours look on video
Great video. Lots of detail. Next part of my comment is not aimed at you 🤣. God forbid manufactures would make their products more modular. Yes, I understand why. More $. Why not make a kit that has clear and yellow lenses, metal and clear cone inserts, with the diffuser. People could pick and choose their layout whenever they want. Instead, we would have to spend $700 to essentially get silver cone inserts of or clear, depending on what set you have. This message applies to everyone from bed rack manufacturers, roof tents, KC lights. Etc etc etc. Rant over 🤣
So what i'm doing since i already have the squadron sports + a Switch Pro is that im going to save my money on SEA's and wire my squadron sports to the Swtich Pro. You can dim all the way down to 10% so oncoming driver dont get blinded.
Just installed a pair of amber SAE Squadrons in my 4Runner's factory fog positions and I am concerned something is wrong with them- it is hard to see if the lights are even on or not because all they do is produce a dim amber fill light to some surrounding area. They do not have a beam pattern like the ones shown in this video and they certainly aren't nearly as bright as the SAE Squadrons shown in this video.
The SAE squadrons are actually dimmer than your factory halogen lights. If you want a true performance fog light, look into the SS3 lights by Diode Dynamics. Here's a shootout thread: www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-led-sae-j583-fog-pod-fog-light-review.554813/
I've been stopped before when I had LED bulbs. The Trooper didn't blame me for having them on as the fog was so thick, you could only see 4ft in front of you.
How do the stock rigid fog lights compare to the Squadrons? I've got a 19 TRD Pro, but light the amber optics. Would you buy the lens to upgrade the stock Rigid lights or buy the Baja Designs?
I hope you got comped Bro. That's a pointman review on those 2 lights, I was comparing both for my 4Runner. What are those other pair fogs you got ??? Thanks man.
so do you have a set of both sae and the xl sports on your bumper? i have the same bumper and want to get this set up i think. obviously only use the XL when im off road... thanks in advance
Question do you know or have experience with the racer editions? I was going to mount the XL racer edition on the a-pillar as ultimate high beams, of course when no one is on the road.
Good to know. I just installed these yesterday. I was wondering why they were so bright. I bought the Sport by mistake. Can I add the black insert that the SAE has and convert my Sport lights to SAE?
Does anyone know if it is possible to purchase the SAE components (reflector cones and shield) separately? I wouldn't mind being able to switch the intended usage for street and OR when I'd like instead of adding additional lights.
