Ya I would fly into DN, stay in a hotel for a few days and start looking for an apartment. You will definitely find a nice place with gym and pool for $800. Then you can have a homebase and go explore some other places whenever you want.

Agreed that not being so close to the beach here isn't that much of a factor as it's super-easy and cheap to get there. Also great to hear someone say they prefer the Viet-culture. My wife is Vietnamese and I've been coming here since 2009. I actually seek out that side as opposed to the My Ahn area.

This is a good question. Cell phone plans in VN are crazy cheap compared to US. I imagine it would be very expensive to keep an international phone plan for your US number. I personally changed all notifications to my parents' phone number. VPN is always a good idea but not necessary I don't think. Yes consecutive visas, its not ideal to leave the country every 3 months but I do a lot of travel anyways so I just make sure to plan it around these times when I have to leave.
Nha Trang is a nice beach town also, but a little smaller and less to do than Da Nang I think. The air quality is very good in both cities. Really only Hanoi and HCM have poor air quality.

The new house is in Hai Chau. January is a pretty good time, rainy season should be wrapping up. Most people stay in An Thuong or Son Tra when they first arrive to DN

Subletting is not super common here. I think it is definitely possible you will just have to talk with the owner and make sure it is allowed in the contract. There are tennis courts available.

Hey man, sounds like you're killing it for 20 years old. When I was 20 I was making negative 40k a year going to college haha. I would try to join some local language exchange groups, any type co-ed sports group maybe (beach volleyball, badminton, etc) Just get out and about there's plenty of opportunities

My best bet is to rent “Căn Hộ" (furnished apartments). Stopped listening to Realtor and found a place for myself for a great price. I am in the process of reinstating my VN citizenship so I can buy land and build my house here. That way, when I fly to VN, I can stay in my house without apartment hunting.
Incredibly cheap once you get there. Minimum 25 hour flight for $1800. I think I will wait until I retire. Spending that much money and time on a plane is a real commitment for a 70 year old couple.

I have VN account so no fees. I don't have to deal with US account stuff too often

@@TravisTravelsVN ….I am here in Da Nang. Been talking to at least 3 different realtors. Found out they take in more than 10% from their clients. Also, can’t rent a house for just a month. My best bet is to rent “Căn Hộ" (furnished apartments). Stopped listening to Realtor and found a place for myself for a great price. I am in the process of reinstating my VN citizenship so I can buy land and build my house here. That way, when I fly to VN, I can stay in my house without apartment hunting.
Incredibly cheap once you get there. Minimum 25 hour flight for $1800. I think I will wait until I retire. Spending that much money and time on a plane is a real commitment for a 70 year old couple.

I turn 70 in January. I will check out VN in October to see if I want to retire there. For all that I have seen, I think it will work out. As far as the flight goes, time never stops, all bad things end, and good things start. Best of luck.
@@altran1125 I live about as far away as possible, and I was including lay over time. For now the Caribbean is only a few hours away and surprisingly cheap. I just did one Expedia search and $1750. was the cheapest r/t ticket.

I need one bedroom for work desk and music room, its nice to have a 2nd bedroom if anyone visits. I prefer houses over apartments, just more space and feel more connected to the neighborhood.
