Your test is apples and oranges. The Glowforge Air Filter pack contains not only an activated charcoal filter but also a prefilter, a HEPA filter, and a variable speed fan. When using an AC Infinity Carbon Filter it is up to the consumer to select the prefilter, HEPA filter, and variable speed fan, and then build an airtight housing for the prefilter and HEPA filter so the exhaust passes through these filters before entering the activated charcoal filter.
The Glowforge Air Filter replacement cartridges are $249. Depending on the material used and how many hours per day the laser is used, the filter cartridges may last as little as 2 weeks or as long as 12 months. That yields an annual cost of operations for the Glowforge Air Filter that ranges from $249 to almost $6,000 (plus tax).
Many users resort to routing the laser exhaust directly outdoors in order to lengthen the life of the air filter cartridge. That defeats the purpose of having an air filter.

I really wanted this for my small machine shop. I’m bummed it won’t work but glad I saw this. Thanks!

Pretty funny lol, but i want a cheap or diy filter to cut down on visible smoke venting from my garage, will this work for that

Thank you. You just saved me a lot of aggravation. I was hoping to use it for just that purpose. You mentioned HEPA Filters instead. Do you have any recommendations ? Thanks again for your honesty. Truth is Power.

What about the acrylic smell will it filter out that? some of us need to filter out that smell even when venting outside because of neighbors

It will work better for acrylic because it doesnt produce much smoke but the smell is pungent. The only problem is these things get clogged easy because there is no pre-filter to trap larger particles.

did you find any solution for the smell of acrylic? Have the same problem regarding neighbours

Hi , this is activated carbon filter which itself isnt effective to adsorb smaller gas particles , for laser cutting you need to mix activated carbon with molecular sieve zeolite 13x 25% / 75% of carbon or activated alumina impregnated with kmno4 (potassium permagnetate) at last 4% 50% + 50% activated carbon to remove these odours ! , activated carbon is only effective against larger gas particles such as odours

Random question, I'm looking at a laser from full spectrum. They mentioned that their filter won't take the smell out of acrylic. I'd be curious what is the best filter you've found for indoor use?

The $1,000 Glowforge air filter is the only serious filter I’ve used and overall I think it’s great. Acrylic honesty is just tricky in general. Some of my acrylic is just fine and other brands are more chemically and I can smell them more.

Porque no los dos? Use the activated carbon to adsorb organic vapors and a HEPA filter to trap particulates. Best of both worlds. You'd preferably want the HEPA filter for the first stage so the particulates don't clog the pores in the charcoal secondary stage.

Would the infinity filter inline with the glowforge filter extend the life of the $250 glowforge filter?

I’d recommend using a sheet of charcoal filter instead. Jump to min 4:40 on my air filter video
