pro tip for anyone doing this, at 4.58 you see him make a circular cut around the sheave just above the core, DONT DO THIS, split the sheath from the end to the tape vary carefully- peeling back the sheath and carefully cutting as you go, once you get the sheath peeled off cut it off with scissors... making that circular cut you take a chance of cutting through the core and when you go to unbraid the core, it all falls out in your hands, ask me how i know...
You appear to be SOL if you get the length wrong. So if you get new sails, the luff of the new one better be the exact same as the luff of the old one.
@@Seldenmast i'm converting existing Assy to top down furling and the calcs come to max sail length of 9340. My luff is 9700. Is my only option a recut by sail maker or is there an extender ?

If I'd known how complicated this was I'd have bought another make of furler with thimble and clamp.

Not really. The luff of the sail is longer than the AT-cable with drum and swivel and you adjust it with the lashing between tack swivel and sail.
@@Seldenmast is there a recommended knot or way to lash the sail to the head swivel and furler?

@@drudegsy An over length of the luff is normal if the sail is a full body top down gennaker. Check with you sailmaker.
