XIU MAI | VIETNAMESE MEATBALLS
MEATBALLS

1/2 cup water chestnuts, diced
1 small yellow onion, diced
1 lb ground meat of choice

3. Once you’ve smashed the tomatoes and theirs no more big chunks, season with: sugar, fish sauce and black pepper. Give this a good mix and then add your meatballs.
4. Bring this to a boil and then reduce heat to simmer, cover and cook for 15 minutes.
5. After 15 mins, uncover thicken your sauce by adding a slurry (4 TBSP water + 2 TBSP cornstarch)
6. Enjoy with crusty bread

theyre "well done" LMAO
They're not burnt they are seared 🔥
Looks yummy 😋
Interesting xiu mai in our country is a dumpling
Bruh different spelling it’s not
The same word 😑
Growing up in a Chinese-Vietnamese household, I always thought that was interesting too! There’s Siu Mai for the dimsum dish and then Xiu Mai for the Vietnamese meatball. Sounds very similar! I’m sure there is some connection or origin story 😊
@@princessjellyfishvietnamese just said eff the wrappers...we want the meat❤
@@pandagames76250⁰0⁰00
@@pandagames7625it is the same word though, xíu mại is just the vietnamese spelling of 燒賣. i guess they just evolved into different recipes
I normally cook my meatballs in a pan over the stovetop but I saw a video of someone baking their meatballs in the oven and they came out really juicy and delicious, so while they were cooking in the oven they were able to make the gravy and other dishes and by the time the meatballs were cooked they were able to eat straight away and it was piping hot 🔥🔥🔥🔥 so maybe just a tip for cooking time. Your food always turns out the bomb diggity anyway ❤❤❤
We do ours in the oven but aside from them being jucy they taste the exact same
I’ve never seen these or tried them!! They look sooo yummy and I have all the ingredients!! Looks like I’m trying something new!! Thank you!!
😮😍😍you make THEE BEST FOOD!

Looks amazing! Wish my family were not picky eaters 😢.
Dont tell them how you made em and see how they like them
I made the meatballs with chiken once by accident. Shrimp and chiken is the best kombo ❤
Yummy
Anyone know what that cool pepper grinder is????
Hmmm can I substitute the shrimp with something else?
Be quiet! We love you❤️🙏🏽🎃
Get @lovelymimi knife set 😂💜💪🏾💪🏾
I KNOW THIS IS FIRE
My god this looks so good
so xiu mai means meatball in Vietnam ❤
Bon appetity
You gave us three choices for meat, but what did you use please 😊 🙏🏼
Ground pork is often the choice of protein in Viet dishes like that. Only those influenced by Western foods will use ground turkey/chicken.
What does fish sauce taste like? Never tried it.
Salty, umami. Some say it’s not fishy, but I think it does have a fish aroma in a way, but not unpleasant. Can be pungent on its own but very nice in cooking. I sometimes like to eat it alone with rice.
Water chestnuts better than jicama?
Jicama is sweeter than water chesnut, but water chesnut ,s texture is quite crunchier ( imo )
Is there anything I could sub the shrimp with? Tofu?
She said in other comment. Just leave out the shrimp if u cant/allergic, opt for meat only. ( personally I think tofu would be too "watery" n cant hold the form without adding some starch or flour).
How are you feeling with Scorpio Season coming up? 😂💖
2nd 🎉
They are squeeling because they are enjoying it🤭🤭
lol your kids killing each other
I'm surprised you made it in tomato sauce as your mom sounds like she's from the north (and you do, too, but you throw in southern words/phrases now and then). My parents are from the north and would steam the meatballs all piled up like a pyramid. No tomato sauce. We dip banh mi in it when we eat it.
