Bryan Erickson of Velvet Acid Christ was listening to Tegan & Sara while he was creating his album The Art Of Breaking Apart. He mentioned that in the interview on the last part of that album.
Yeah, like you said Heartthrob is a pop album and I like it. I hope there'll be a dvd like with the last albums but I doubt it. A lot of the fellow old fans aren't really digging the new sound but what can ya do
@SOLDGREEN actually... record is the proper term. Record stands for "recording" which can be any format. If one says vinyl and then holds up a cd, then that is a mistake.
In my opinion, I think they're cool. I don't really share a lot in common with them, but Metric is pretty neat. I don't listen to those other music artists. I really don't think they're pretentious, because they like a lot of other stuff outside of the "hipster" tag (that I like to disregard anyway). I wish I could come across a music artist who loves Ladytron (electropop - my favorite band in existence). Also, there's really nothing wrong with searching for music that's underground - I am an electronic music person, but I find Ladytron is better than some of the mainstream "techno." The labels are nonsense. If somebody prefers mainstream, they're a poser; if somebody likes underground, they're pretentious. I found good music in both mainstream and underground realms. Last but not least, if you like electropop/techno/synthpop or whatever, give Ladytron's music a chance. It's really enjoyable.
Trent Reznor really likes Ladytron. They are also one of my favourite bands of the last 10 years or so. Can't wait for the new album which should be this year.
I know you were sarcastic when you said that about posers and pretentious ppl, but both are true, about so many... I truly believe that some often end up listening to some kind of music, mainstream or not, *to belong*, and not because they're actually expressed through the sound and lyrical content (which can be shallow and/or pretentious, btw, but sometimes, meaningful and relatable but in a truly/relatively deep way). It usually is the case with mainstream, of course, following the trends/charts and all -like if you're not up to date with what sells the most your friends will start mocking you- but, many of us are inclined to search for more alternative names and genres (be it out of the sense of reward you get when you find something that takes "effort"/ because we are more curious and we have an extra passion for music, or... because we want to differ (and foolishly brag about it), which can be seen as pretentious and sure is seen as that by the ones who are searching for an insult, a way to answer to the "musical opponents" who are belittling them because they only follow what's in fashion*). *This whole situation is what happens when ppl treat everything (even music...) as a reason to be divided, and they always compare, diss, and use what they listen to as something that makes them superior and part of an army (of fan(atic)s), instead of simply trying to enjoy whatever suits them (but not only what is served to them by certain labels and the music industry, or what is forced on them through peer pressure in general). RUclips and Wikipedia are some of the greatest tools to search for the right stuff (for you). Especially if you got common sense and imagination :p p.s. huge thanks for the suggestion! I'll sure check Ladytron out, since I already love some synthpop/electropop artists.
It's weird but I have never had trouble telling them apart. Not only does Tegan have the lip stud, her hair also tends to be a bit longer and, oddly enough, Sara is the pretty one.
@desconocidos27: Record. As in a record of an event. The event of musical people together in a room creating audio bliss. These girls may still be girls (absolutely fine ;-) girls too) but they can hold their own on stage so I've heard. No need to put anyone down. I work at a record store too and people just get confused about what a vinyl record is, truly. It's a mad mad mad mad mad mad world...
I love these videos because you get to see how diverse the influence of other artists are on your favorite artists. I watch some with artists I don't know or like and usually come away very surprised at what they listen to. But I was disappointed to see that they only listen to their musical peers. Let them be as far away from the mainstream as possible, but you seriously have no other musical taste than what you produce? As a musician that's weird to me.
@MrSteinpower Hmm, Ani DiFranco quote there, eh? ;) (thumbs up!) Love her! And Tegan and Sara, too! I'm all for the "record" term, yay! This interview was awesome and cute. Especially the awkward ending.
Then don't go around writing off your opinions as if they were facts, 'buddy". You were obviously trying to start conflict by negatively commenting on here.
it's awesome that they are huge now
I think they've always had a hardcore following. But they're definitely huge now.
No it's not.
I love how they rotate from left to right and just all the other mannerisms that they share
JOANNA NEWSOM = automatic like
