Game Gear was a letdown for me, one of my friends had it and the lighting and framerate made me hate it. He had Sonic 2 and an X Men game, neither game was appealing. In the end, I think Nintendo easily bested Game Gear when it came to handhelds. The Super Mario Land series, Metroid II, Link's Awakening are all time classics, Game Gear was never able to produce anything remotely close to those.
The battery life crippled a lot of the GG experience for me early on even with the ac adapter I couldn’t keep mine charged at times. The original Gameboy in my opinion had one of the greatest catalogs of original content. Felt like the Gameboy truly held the test of time you just couldn’t keep It down. There was a like an 8 year gap that I wasn’t playing games during my college years and one big reason I got into games again was the Nintendo DS and even by then they just releases so much new content for it at the time it was nuts. Now I feel like all I get from Nintendo are ports and remasters of their old games every other month but way back Nintendo was always giving u fresh new games on their handhelds
I still think they should've added the GameGear and the SMS Version in the Collection. Or that they give the Games the same treatment as the Genesis Games, means, to have the visually upgraded GameGear Version, but with the 16:9 ScreenSize and Sprite Size as the Master System Version had. Back in the Time i had the Games on the MasterSystem and the GameGear. I prefered the MasterSystem Version, since you could see more and the dangers earlier. Honestly i generally prefer the 8-Bit Sonic Games, since the Zones feel more unique and handcrafted. Also there are different levels, where you have branching routes, but many levels have only one route to go. Sonic 2 8-Bit has more of these open Zones and i think this Version is also the best on the 8-Bit Games. The replay value for these Games where, that you didn't find all the Chaos Emeralds in these Games. So the first time you managed to get though the Game without getting a Game Over, you got the Bad Ending, for not finding all the Emeralds. Then you played and played them again until you got all of them and you even got a new Zone to play in Sonic 2
It’s funny because the gamegear collections have been released now over quite a few different collections. When I picked up Origins Plus I noticed they added some additional content to the original Genesis games and was thinking they would finally give the Game Gear and master system games the treatment but nope. The screen crunch really does these games a huge disservice and especially Sonic 2 it makes the game almost unplayable towards the last few acts. I’m with you all the way tho on 8 bit games I really love the originality to them I even had a great time with tails adventure I played that even more so picking it up when I got my original GameGear. My only big complaint comes with sonic chaos and triple trouble those chaos emeralds are painful to get especially with the time limits lol
this game is not a bad game but i dont think it is anything special either, my biggest problem with it is that i cant accept it for what it is and i cant help but compare it to the genesis games, this is a game that maybe i play it once a year but the genesis games are a monthly experience for me, game gear and master system are not as powerful as the genesis so they cant make something like the genesis games on them, and because of that Tails Adventure is the only 8-bit sonic game that i love as much as the genesis games, because that game know the limitations of the game gear and because of that instead mimicing the genesis games it gives you a unique experience
Tails adventure is pretty awesome I played it when I first got my gamegear. Got pretty far but I never finished it. I think I was missing an item so I was running in circles.. Did u try out tails sky patrol?
@@RockinKatReviews yeah that one was fine but nothing special , if a Tails game didnt exist, what i would come up with would be something like Tails Adventure not Sky Patrol, i think what makes me like Tails Adventure much more than other 8bit sonic games is how much it makes sense, if the game was the same but you played as sonic or knuckles instead then it wouldnt make sense but as a Tails game its reasonable to slow down and think and build up yourself to beat the game
I think this is technically a retelling of the original especially with the sky base zone
