These things have a lot of torque as you can see the car lifting in the corners. I always did think that these needed taller&wider tires and wheels. Very fast also. Great show.
Fat tires killed dirt track racing. The racing was much better and far less expensive, because the skinny tires limited the effective engine power to about 150 hp on dirt. The only problem with the Kurtis Kraft midget was the lack of a good roll cage. A car as slow as the 71 would never have qualified for a race back in the 1950s. The drivers back then would really throw the cars into the corner. ( Of course the 71 is just making a very nice video with a museum piece.)
Just all bound up with those hairpins on the suspension. Thing would be terrible on a rough hooky track. I runa 60s Supermod and that has been the vast improvement,,, unbind it! As someone said I had a 2" steam pipe front sway bar! Two links on the right and one on the left. Good on most track though has not got enough travel for real rough tracks
Dad raced a Willy’s Jeep powered vintage speedcar he built in 1947 with 4” wheels (pictured) he raced 3 nights a week and seemed to have lots of fun and also frightening times! He came 3rd to Frank “Satan” Brewer in 1951 world championship 1951, and 2nd was Ray Revell in the No 1 Offe.
I can't think of a better way to spend any afternoon than watching and listening to this , unless it's to HAVE A GO !
Great old cars, which are almost forgotten today. Thanks for the video.

When asked about the various engines run in Indy car competition over the decades, Al Unser said, " Out of a turn, NOTHING could catch an Offy Turbo"!

Did that Offe belong to Cal Niday from about 1951?
