  • During these troubled times, we hear of wars and rumor of wars, so once again my thoughts turn to Mars, the Roman god of war, and the red planet named after him. This is my third video for "Mars" by Gustav Holst. I edited the first two, 10 and 15 years ago, respectively. Since then, there are a lot more photos and footage of the planet Mars, so I decided to do another revised video. This time the soundtrack is a remastered recording of Herbert von Karajan conducting the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 1961. The first two Mars videos feature the Boston Symphony Orchestra (William Steinberg) and The Royal Philharmonic (André Previn).
Years ago, I used to edit RUclipss on my HP Pavilion desktop. Nowadays, I edit videos on my cell phone in the comfort of my living room armchair. Video editing is more fun than ever, thanks to a nice app called CapCut.
I retained some of the old Mars footage, but this new version includes more Martian landscapes, dust devils (real and animated) and a global dust storm (animated). I hope you enjoy it.

This awesome. I don't think I've ever seen a full-length version of this piece which included so much actual Martian imagery.
You might want to add a quick disclaimer, however, to quash any possible conspiracy theorists pointing out the obvious settlements on Mars visible at the @01:09 spot. 👽
Or was that Matt Damon's summer shack?

Hi Gilda. It's goofy me again, "RamjetRabbit" from NJ. Just caught your new video. Again, GREAT music. The visuals are very impressive. I have the late Isao Tomita's record album "Hoist: The Planets", which is a synthesizer interpretation of Holst's work. It's VERY impressive. I'm reading your opening sentence above, and I'm noticing you are quoting Matthew 24:6-13. Are you a Christian? Me surely hopes so. Your video work is truly wonderful. Do you work for/with/in Hollywood? It wouldn't surprise me if you said "yes". Not trying to be "nosey". Well, I'm going to get back to your video. Nicely done. Have a good weekend.

Hello, RamjetRabbit! Thank you for your very kind comment. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, I am a Christian. I went to Catholic school and attended a Jesuit college (USF). I am not connected to Hollywood. I'm just a big movie fan and a lover of classical music, like both of my parents. I remember the Tomita version of The Planets. I like electronic music. Check out my "Project: Universe" tribute video, if you have a chance. I got my love for astronomy from my dad. Some of my happiest memories were going to the Morrison Planetarium in SF GG Park. Another favorite pastime was watching for shooting stars with my dad while enjoying a cup of hot Mexican chocolate or Ovaltine with toasted French bread. You have a good weekend too!
