A little advice get a skid plate asap for under your airtanks. This is what I did in the military I was a 63b (all wheel diesel mechanic for 8yrs) and these were my favorite vehicles. They are extremely light for that size of a truck but still built very tuff. Also as someone else mentioned below before going off road you need to pin the cab to keep it from twisting because it's a cab over truck and the hole cab lifts up and forward to get to the engine and the last thing you want is to be going down a steep hill and the cab fall's forward lol. Last but not least the truck is built with the ctis (central tire inflation system) so use it to your advantage them tires are extremely tuff so when off road drop the air pressure and not only will it be a more comfortable ride but you will get a significant amount of added traction.
Hey @john Martin I’m looking at buying one of these to start a business to haul frieght around my home state cauld I get away with something like the m1088? Ik they’re built for off road type usage but I saw your comment and seen that you worked on them. What are your thoughts of it being used in the commercial side
Those are the same chassis as the BAE MRAP. Good design. I used to work with the people of Sealy, TX (where they built those) at the start of the MRAP program. Been to that plant 100's of times.
If you run the CTIS in the Sand or XC (Cross country) settings (aka airing down), you will have a more comfortable ride off road. It will also give you better traction/footing on rocks.
you can ajust the leaveler in back of cab . that duzz the air ride . and make sure in cab lift box bottom right button pushed in and turned for air ride .
urgentcareguy3 , we used the m1088 to pull our 5th wheel camper, so it could be insured with progressive under a RV policy as a heavy duty tow vehicle for our RV.
@@Bushguyrocks I believe that they mean putting extra pins through the cab into the chassis to securely lock it in place. Normally there is just a locking mechanism that keeps the cab in place (tips forward for servicing). Although the mechanism has a triple safety lock in place to prevent it from accidental tipping forward it's not impossible under extreme off road conditions when the chassis has a big twist in it that it could jump free and you'd be looking at a facefull of terrain real quick and up close.
@@SuperRede4u Ah, so they are not putting pine boards in the cab, they are pinning the cab in place. I think it would look absolutely lovely lined with pine!
BAE bought them. Then my company took the contract award away. Saved the US government a crapload of $ on the contract and we received an award for it. Then BAE was investigated for overpricing parts. Then my company received the contract award for FMTVA2.
Its amazing how they are doing everything without a trailer hooked. Guaranteed you have that much power hauling a load with it. Those trucks are junk. They cost to much to fix.
No,they just are gutless and Electrical Problems constantly. The only good FMTV's were from 1994 to 1998 that had the Mechanical 3116 from Caterpillar. But the FMTV with the 3126/C-7 is just a piece of shit. But equally, the 7.2L Caterpillar is just a useless Engine unless you add Modifications.
As long as the GVWR is under the 26,000lb rating, no. Empty weight is 18,640 lb with my 10,000lb camper and fuel it would be in the +/- 30,000. Thats when you need a CDL.
I surprised that the EPA or the core of engineers has not been all over you for driving Through a water crossing ware there was a bridge... the do frown on that big time...
They don’t actually because there are weight limits on those bridges and the water crossing is specifically for trucks too heavy for the bridge to cross

Clearly this truck could do more than that 👌🏻
Now this is what I call a truck! Not those pathetic Ford F-250, Dodge Ram 2500 etc.

an immense engineering design feat

Very good video. Thank you for making it.
Excellent rig and video! Colorado has some great trails for these monsters.
Really like to see more videos of your rig!

I'm driving one for logging and heavy haul off road great power.
For heavy loads they are a tad underpowered
nice, greetings from Indonesia country Chanel 👍
They tested a bob tailing tractor. Add a 15,000 lb trailer then test it!
Somewhere near Oury😂🤣I know exactly where you are,I take my modified Suzuki Samurai up there and play

Single or Dual speed transfer case?
what is the height - wondering as I watch you on that trail in Ouray ... I have an m927 and I think this is a road I will avoid

Have you taken this on black bear pass or imogene
At least it has a 3116.
In your description,do you mean the Engine was Rebuilt in 2005? Because the 7.2L 3116 was not in the FMTV after 1998.
Oh yes! Put a camper on it and go surf fishing!
A feet or more.....?
What's in enginne?

The smaller rear one looks like a standard 5th wheel hitch. The main one is probably too far forward to for 5th wheel.
the cab should be pined when off roading
