The cars in the 10s were designed to cruise with a speed a little better than carriages and carts, hence the similarity in design and appearance. The 20s were a bit different but still there. So you can imagine even if you opened the hatch , such a thing is basically designed to run as a cart. In a side seat you can put a teenage boy or smth, not necessarily an adult passenger or your grandma. Like on a bicycle. That it had 6cyl or smth was probably ahead of time for this model but it was oriented to the design of all other cars of the epoque. So the psycho comment is way overboard if you start to think. Then also, heroine in the syrup taken orally is much destroyed in the stomach, that is why today they inject it directly in the blood, I would guess that syrup had no effect on that part. Alchohol is put for preservation, but what matters is the ammount, if it wasnt big you wouldnt feel nothing or just a little bit satisfaction. And indeed not only these drugs but most have secondary effect on the vegetative nervous system, so they did really relax the patients. To think people were always stupid is a big underestimation.
