And wore out countless cassette tapes. I'm gonna get back into them now and play them for my little boys. Do glad this interview popped up in my feed. He gives me a little faith back in HUMANITY! Hello from Toronto.
I have met Bret a few times. He is one of the coolest guys in music. He always remembered who I was and was always nice to me. I seen poison play 42 times. I took a picture of him and his friend who passed away years ago in Greensboro NC. And it took me 13 years to give him his picture I had it blown up to a 10 by 13 for him of him and his friend who passed away. And he was such a gentleman about me saving and taking care of it to give it him.
It's great how Brett always pays tribute to Veterans at his shows, especially his Dad. I was at a Poison show in NJ. Brett brought out a group of Veterans (including his Dad) so the crowd could give them a standing ovation for serving
Always thought it was cool that his dad was willing to play the crippled vet in the Something To Believe In video.......................he clearly was supportive of Bret's career!
As the wife of a veteran with cancer from the burn pits in Iraq, as the mother and MIL of veterans over there with him at the time, my fear is for all these young 19-30 year olds over there who have similar health risks. My 53 yr old husband wasn’t looking for signs of cancer but my son and DIL, now 40 and 43, and their fellow soldiers around the same age, are even less likely to be looking. I’m terrified for them all, but my Dad was in a B24 bomber flying from England to France over D-Day, made repeated trips over the channel when the planes were so laden with fuel and bombs they could barely get off the runway at Royal Air Force Rackheath, being a daughter of a WWII veteran, my appreciation for how Bret has always honored our soldiers has made me proud to be a fan. I used to have a Bret Michael door poster on the back of my door at work. If I still had it, it would be on a door somewhere in my house now!
One of my two best friends left us back in 93. I'm still not over it. Brett still feeling that loss is a beautiful thing because as long as it still hurts, the person isn't all the way gone
Brett you are such a good looking man and articulate and smart. I’m 51 and you were a huge part of my teenage years. We had so much fun listening to you guys.
I had the pleasure of meeting him and he was the best. We talked for like a half hour and, since this was before cell phone pics, he signed his autograph and then wrote, Steve, "Something to Believe In."
Something to believe in is such a great and underrated song, knowing that it was about his best friend that passed away and still brings him to tears makes it more special to me now.
Really? I think Dan is rather dry and bland. He just goes to question to question and doesn’t elaborate at all when they give an answer to each question. Like a robot even
Bret is a great American entertainer and rock star. We’ve seen him with Poison and solo. Both are so much fun! We love him! His tickets are worth every penny.
I rode my 72 Triumph Cafe Racer with Rikki. Hit a couple of bars. Had a great time. When he found out I was a veteran, he told me thank you for your service Mark. You never would have known he was Poison's drummer. Great humble person!

He asked me at a meet & greet one time what I liked about it & what I didn’t like about it. But every show I had ever been to was always spot on, they were always amazing. He wants to know our honest opinion , he’s very dedicated, never been to an average show, it’s always exceeded expectations
I was in Minnesota about 5 years ago for a football game. Bret Michaels was playing a free show right outside the stadium the day before. He did this thing where he brought veterans from the crowd up on stage. I got to go up on stage and stood with him. He shook my hand and gave me a hug... By the way, I did not know that poison owns the publishing of their music. How Kick-Ass is that? Please Bret give us some damn vinyl box sets...

Before I discovered Heavy Metal, Progressive Metal and Progressive Rock, there was 3 bands that turned on my musical ear. Poison, Def Leppard, and Motley Crue. I was 9 or 10 years old. Bret has always been one of my musical heros. Love this guy.
I have been lucky to meet the entire band several times. Bret has always been respectful and never dodged a conversation. He is as down to earth as you can get. A good ole Pennsylvania boy.
That Dan Rather is a really good interviewer. Glad Bret is still doing well! I used to listen to Poison back in the 1980's......yeah,good times and had some bad experiences with drugs and alcohol back then, but sober now, thankfully!
I’m embarrassed to say I only know Bret from VH1’s show from years ago, and the tape inserts from my older brother’s cassette catalog. This interview has me looking up Bret’s song lyrics. WOW! What a gifted songwriter! Very inspiring.

His music was part of the soundtrack for my late teenage years in the late 80's / early 90's. It was beyond awesome to hear them all over top 40 radio and see them all over MTV. Those first 3 Poison albums with C.C. DeVille on lead guitar and then the Native Tongue album with Richie Kotzen replacing C.C. -- just pure rock n' roll greatness! @lindalogston1068 thanks. I actually believe I saw him driving around in Nashville when I lived there. We were heading towards each other & the traffic was slowing up. I glanced over & saw him for a split second. I know he does hang out in a Nashville too because I saw this big picture banner of him downtown hanging from a building no doubt having to do with music, like a radio station or something. I met & seen a few stars from there. I even spoke to the cute blonde lady from trick pony in the Super market. Kimberley Paisley walked right by me in a Publix I worked at for a short time. Saw George Jones buying some big outdoor equipment at this fork lift company I temped at.
I worked w Bret on his movie No Code of Conduct. During that time, we spent a lot of time in the ADR and Mix Stage. It was a crazy time. Late 90's... Charlie was in the news, A LOT. But I can verify that Bret was this cool back then. He was one of three people that kept my romance w the studio manager a secret from the studio owner at the time. She and I have been married for 25 yrs. Happy for ya Bret. Hope to see ya again. Maybe on the mix stage. Cheers 🍻

I was never big into Poison as a teenager, I was more into Priest, Megadeth etc…BUT I have a TON of respect for the guys in that band, they have stayed true to themselves and the fans, and wear that proudly. They have gone through a lot of crap, and have learned from it, and have become better men for it. Now, I don’t change the radio when they come on HairNation, like I did when I was a kid….Ill listen to them.

Funny and short story: I was at the MTV awards in LA at the then universal amphitheater at Universal Studios Park. We had cheap seat tickets but the place as crawling with rock stars and celebrities. I had gone to go to the bathroom and when I went to the nearest men's room, there were about 15 pretty girls standing outside - it confused me caused I thought they were waiting to get into their bathroom. Eventually I slipped my way in and went to a urinal to take a piss, and at the next urinal I first noticed a Corona beer balanced on the edge of the urinal, with a guy with long blonde hair also taking a leak - blonde hair guys were a dime a dozen in L.A. Being a fan of Poison and having watched their meteoric rise to fame in the L.A. clubs, I recognized that it was Bret. I had just seen Poison recently opening for RATT in my hometown San Bernardino - about an hour away. RATT did not sound well that night but the opening act Poison was clearly the hungrier band and played much better. After we washed our hands I told Bret about this and he was genuinely appreciative and clearly wanted to talk more to a nobody like me. I told him how well he and his band had sounded that night and he broke out laughing cause the guy with him happened to be his sound man, and they both got a kick out of that. After a few minutes of small talked I wished him continued success which he was so grateful for, and I warned him that there were about 15-20 girls outside waiting for him. I walked out first and as I was walking back to my seat, I heard the shrieks of girls as Bret was exiting the men's room. I looked back and he gave me a thumbs-up as if to say, "What a life!" Bret is as genuine as it gets. No pretenses with this guy.
So glad I watched this interview. Enjoy his music even more now. Such an authentic man. So saddened by the huge loss of his best friend passing away. Shows that You can have huge fame but it does not take away in any way the pain of such a loss.
We always knew Brett was a nice guy. As someone who never agreed with nor thought of being a bully, his sentiment about bullying makes me like him more. So sorry for his loss. 😢 Wow.
Wrong. There's no reason for bands like Poison to complain. During the 1990's Gun's & Roses, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Kiss still sold a million records & played arenas. It's all about good music vs bad music.

He was he band leader of a very successful band! He must have some brains!
He won!

Whoa, did he? That's cool
Those first 3 albums were killer. Absolutely could not get enough of those riffs from CC.
Same! I was 9 when I discovered them a d rock n roll back in 87. I bought a kick ass Sony Walkman and it never left my ears. I know all their songs by heart on the first 3 albums.
Super cool of you and Super cool of him.
Bret
Yes, he always pays tribute to them , he has a lot of military in his family as well. He’s truly a great person, normal nice guy
@@kimwarner1681 For sure!
Man Dan is a gold standard still working and putting out Stellar interviews/content.
@@rippy4freedomso? He’s the whole package, decent person. If he wants to wear it, that’s his choice. It doesn’t take away from him at all.

MAD respect, made a grown man cry brother,.....................................
Always loved Brett Michaels, a great singer, great man and a great Dad. And still looks great. Best wishes to you and yr family.🇨🇦
Love that song...
I like it better than "Every Rose Has A Thorn".
@@hotroddreams3130 same here! 'Something to Believe In' is deep ..
Bret, thanks for sharing your story and Dan, you are still the king of interviews!
Dan Rather is a useless tool
He really is.... Who'd of thought he'd be interviewing rock legends in his old age, like Geddy Lee and Sammy Hagar (both great interviews)!
I met Bret outside of The Rainbow back in 1990. He was so friendly and such a beautiful man.
Aww what a real person he can be.
With everything he’s done to his body and then what he’s gone thru health wise, he looks great for 61.
no he doesn't
Hes my age exactly as a Singer myself too I've been very blessed God has blessed me in a lot of ways to keep my health mostly good health and to age gracefully and look 45 instead of 61 at my own age my doctor says it has to do with your blessed from God your diet does help and also exercise keeping active but the biggest part of that would be your jeans your DNA your your jeans that you have your family jeans so I have to say I'm very blessed that I had healthy DNA genes
Why do men have such shinier and prettier hair than women?? 😅
GetvOUT! He’s sixty one??
He looks forty!!!!!
Bret is a good dude. Had the opportunity to meet him on a couple occasions. Just a cool, down to Earth, guy. He gives a lot. Throws it down, EVERY show, good to his fans. Its cool he made it big and kept his feet on the ground.
Thank you for your service 🫡 They did the same thing in Chicago and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house.
This dude is simply the best. Allowed me to use his music from his first solo record for my first documentary ADDICT Racing for Recovery the Todd Crandell Story. So kind
I want to watch the entire interview. Brett Michaels seems like a really genuine soul. He made me choke up when he talked about losing his best friend.
Always love Dan's interviews, very respectful! 👍👍
Dan is the Godfather of Fake News
Just had the privilege to see Bret live in Cincinnati the day after Thanksgiving. GREAT show. Always about the fans.
CHEERS to ALL
Before I discovered Heavy Metal, Progressive Metal and Progressive Rock, there was 3 bands that turned on my musical ear.
Bret Michael's is a great musician & an even better person. I've been to several Poison concerts & they were all fantastic.♥
Since I was a kid and didn't know much (because I was a kid) about life but could tell this man was a nice guy; he seemed genuine, young and alive but kind.. and now after many years, I can clearly say it without even meeting him in person. Bret Michaels is an amazing human being... a total rockstar in my books!
He's such a chill real dude
I'm glad he showed his emotions. Good guy.
I like that he's retained his western PA accent.
Truly a sweet caring soul. I've always loved Bret and always saw him for his human side. When he began to cry it truly broke my heart. Sweet friend, sweet dad and sweet human. God Bless Brett with his diabetes. 🙏~ Brett still looks ageless. Handsome as can be! You go Brett! Always will love you and all the music that was so close to my heart since I was younger. ❤
Kudos to Dan Rather for treating this interview seriously.
Why wouldn’t he? He’s Dan F’n Rather.

Thank you, Dan. God bless you, Bret, you are a 'one of a kind', 🎸 Rock solid, man.❤🎸
His music was part of the soundtrack for my late teenage years in the late 80's / early 90's. It was beyond awesome to hear them all over top 40 radio and see them all over MTV. Those first 3 Poison albums with C.C. DeVille on lead guitar and then the Native Tongue album with Richie Kotzen replacing C.C. -- just pure rock n' roll greatness! How Bret did it all while managing a serious disease like type 1 diabetes is a tall order, but kudos to him for doing just that. He's a stand-up guy in more ways than one.
Same...Poison was huge in the late 80's. I bought LWTCDI in '87.
People use to rag me about listening to Poison , I didn't care , Brett is one of the greatest frontman / singers out there and I've seen Poison so many times opening for other bands , headlining , always forever a true fan plus musician , I have so much respect for Brett and Poison ...thanks guys for the awesome times you have gave me....

clueless haters have no idea how talented Poison is, so many genius written songs and hits
I lived in Hollywood for most of the 80's, when unheard of Poison would staple flyers on telephone poles to concert night at Gazzarri's on the strip, you never saw so many smoke show hotties in their audience
This interview has generated some of the best sincere comments in one place I have ever seen. Something made me stop scrolling, now I know.
Bless his heart, he's very fortunate to have survived the brain injury, hemorrhage. It's a critical situation and requires a team to people working together to try to bring you back. Many just need a miracle.

I was lucky enough to meet Bret and my first impression was how grounded, respectful and a good person he is, he signed autographs and took pictures for over 2hrs after the show that ended at 11:45pm, a true genuine person. He's cool !
I have loved this guy since the 80's. I still hope one day I get to meet him.
Hopefully you live in California, because if you're patient and observant, you will meet him. I've done it, you can to.
Good luck friend!
Saw George Jones buying some big outdoor equipment at this fork lift company I temped at.
a very deep interview, and Bret is a heartful, soulful man, who really beared his heart- he got me chocked up at some point.
Cheers 🍻
I met Bret on his first Poison concert tour back in the 1980s/1990s Greenville South Carolina I am still a fan thank you Bret.
Love this guy. Sincere, down to earth, and just a legit good dude. Bret is such a class act. Can’t wait to watch the full interview.

To me, it is about his character. Thank you Dan for this chat with Bret. It is obvious there is a lot of love within and around him.

What a great interview.
Poison was my favorite band when I was a kid. They're still great.
Bret has been through crazy adversity due to health problems. Glad to see him healthy and doing well. Seems like an honest and humble guy.
We always knew Brett was a nice guy. As someone who never agreed with nor thought of being a bully, his sentiment about bullying makes me like him more. So sorry for his loss. 😢
Wow.
Grunge dismissed the greatness of bands like Poison. These guys had incredible talent.
Because hair metal was played out.
Wrong. There's no reason for bands like Poison to complain. During the 1990's Gun's & Roses, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Kiss still sold a million records & played arenas. It's all about good music vs bad music.
@@longhorn2615 *No because Grunge was the White side Op that Gangst Rap was for the Black Side. Had nothing to do with anything playing out. It was manufactured deconstruction.*
Poison was always great. Bret must of all. Part of the hair metal thing but they would have been just as successful in any decade with those songs. Dress those tracks up with different production and they still sell. Great songs are great songs.
Never got the whole worshiping of Kurt cobain thing. He was made out to be like a Paul McCartney. Hahaha. Horrible music.
I love how open and honest you are being! You have been threw a lot and still keep strong! Your story would make a amazing movie for your family friends and fans!!! Just a suggestion Brett!
