I like Zatoichi but I really like Zankuro. His hungry mother, police friends, geisha girlfriend. The stories are excellent with a heartfelt touch and love seeing his mother wake him up with her staff and chase him around their home. Every story I've seen so far are first class. Thanks for posting this series.

Zankuro's mother is played by Kyoko Kishida . She had some amazing credits to her name :Teshigahara’s “Woman of the Dunes”, , Ozu’s “Autumn Afternoon , etc .

I am mesmerised with Japanese culture.. how come I've never seen any source of heating in a Japanese house even when outside is snowing.. can anyone explain that please.. how do they heat the house in the winter time.. the houses they build look like very cold in the winter..
Hope i can find this samurai tv series I was informed by my father about the samurai film he had watched in 1960’s to 1970’s. He forgot the name of the movie. It was a TV series. What he remember was a scene whereby the hero (samurai) threw a plate in the air and quickly slice the plate before falling to the ground just to show bad guys how good he is in sword play. Another scene he remembered was during spring season he and the leader of a bad gang waited for a leaf from a Sakura tree to fall to start the fight. When samurai knew he might lost the fight he tied the leaf with a string to prevent it from falling just to cancelled the fight. The film was shown by Thailand TV channel. The samurai hero uses 3 swords. 2 swords by his right and left waist and another long sword at his back. The hero is one eye jack with scares to the blind eye.
I am surprised to see the expression "Long time no see" is Japanese to English subtitles. Whenever I read that phrase, it brings a picture of Native Americans meeting white men back in the 1800s.
