I’ve seen this game many times. But I never knew just how dominant the Lakers late game defense was. Incredible. Gasol blocking Pierce on one end, then scoring a tough contested shot on the block.
Watching this style of basketball is much more entertaining. The physicality of play and the refs not calling everytime somebodies touch. THIS was real basketball
I have been an LA Lakers fan since 1965-66 which means I watched a few Game 7s between these two teams and have endured some disappointments. I was committed to a church meeting the evening of Game #7 so I had to record the game to watch after the meeting. About one hour before the meeting ended my counterpart at the meeting advised he would check the score and departed the room. He returned 1-2 minutes later with a "thumbs up" and I was elated. Any time the LA Lakers can beat the Boston Celtics for the championship the day is great - is what I thought. Ironically, last August 2022, my counterpart died suddenly while attending a funeral. I never had the chance to watch the game while it was happening. But if I had I would have been worried through most of a game and extremely nervous throughout. The Celtics had a powerful team. My belief then as now is that Phil Jackson won that game for the Lakers, and that would not have happened if he was not the coach. Phil Jackson was so calm and how he approached that game was admirable. Being a Lakers fan for so many years, Phil Jackson took a long time to become accustomed to - but he earned my enduring respect. This championship was Kobe's and Phil's greatest achievement. Lastly, I (as an OC resident) still cannot believe Kobe is gone - three and a half years later.
The hardest championship any superstar won. RIP Kobe. Celtics had the more talented team by a mile. This the proudest I have ever been of a Lakers team. They showed so much heart this series. Makes me so sad watching this spineless team we have now. March 2022.

Lamar Odom shot 3/8 on 37% and shot 50% from the free throw line. Kobe shot terribly on this game but to credit players who shot arguably just as bad as the ones who "saved” him is a logical fallacy. Everyone on the floor for the Lakers was missing their mark on the night, only difference is Kobe had to shoot while being doubled and triple teamed all night. No one had more defensive pressure on the floor than Kobe. To grab 15 boards and close out the game with 10 points in the 4th, regardless if he got most of them from the line or not is what really won them the game. @@fishbone3333 yeah because of how great the defense was. That's the point of his comment...would you really rather watch Steph Curry and Klay Thompson shooting and making easy 3s all game? I personally find that boring. 2016 finals were great only because of LeBron and the 3-1 come back. Every other finals the warriors were in bored me to tears I didn't even watch the 2019 finals because I was just sick of the warriors basketball. I like watching teams play good defense. I liked the heat and spurs finals matchups also.
@@cjvaye99 First, the defense wasn't all that great back then, the league and the refs simply allowed fouling. Second, shooting is so much better now. Efficient three point shooting has transformed the game. So to answer your question...Yes...I would much rather watch explosive athletes like Steph Curry get their shots than chodes like Bill Lambier creating a career for themselves through holiding, screatching, clawing, and fouling. I am not a fan of the Warriors, but I have to admit that the Kevin Durant GSW teams were the best ever assembled. There is no NBA team that has ever existed that could have defeated those Warrior teams when Durant was there. If you are going to say that the Bulls 90's teams could compete with GSW, you would have to qualify it by saying.. "Are the Bulls going to be permitted to foul the Warriors without a whistle?"
@@fishbone3333 yeah I was talking about the 2000s era but ngl i do kinda like those 80s and 90s era from the few clips I've seen. my uncle always talked about the era youre talking about in the 80s and 90s he always says it was so much fun watching those big guys fighting in the post. I miss this NBA so much. Feels like it meant more, but maybe more players like Kobe will come as the gears go on. We've got Jimmy Butler but it seems there are way fewer DAWGS in the game, when this game 7's full of 'em
Crazy how low the score was, but considering the insane defense on both sides more than understandable. Kobe and Ray Allen (and Pau from the FT) really with an off night, Kobe showing up late in game though when he was needed the most. Also love those little moments, like Fisher’s big 3, Rondo sinking in a clutch 3 or Vujacic suddenly playing a huge role in the last seconds of the game.
So I had to graduate high school this day and had to miss this game… wish I would have taped it but here I am 14 years later to watch the full game… thanks for the upload..
What do you mean, all these players would be role players today...look at kobe's decision making and shots, they would put him on the bench after the 1Qt

@@keelsmac01 lmao I don't even have to tell you don't care to. At least 7/8 of the calls in this game went to the Lakers favor! Soft officials wanted the Lakers to win! They wanted the fake rivalry, only won cus of free throws!
This was the first ever basketball game I watched from start to finish, and the one that got me into basketball. Mom let me stay up past 1am watching it with my uncle (a huge Kobe fan) and it was one of my favorite memories ever. Being a Celtics fan meant that you had to hate Kobe and his Lakers and I was heartbroken when we lost... but I owe nobody other than him for my love of the sport and competitive spirit thats stronger than ever today.
This will forever be a finals classic 🙏 rip the Mamba still can’t believe He’s gone prayers to His Family and Friends and rip Gigi and the rest on the crash and Kobe 🙏
Kobe was shooting bricks all game, but his aggression paid off. He hit a lot of crucial free throws which shows he can be impactful even when struggling
15 rebounds is good for 6'6 guard vs 4 all-star I mean Rondo Allen Pierce Garnett is all-star that year
Jordan shooting bricks in 1996 finals game 6 vs sonics 26%fg and 5 turnover but still win a championship i agree aggression paid off
They were all shooting bricks, both teams. The only player on either side that had an efficient game was Ron Artest
i had the honour of meeting KB in singapore during 07/08.up till this day i still miss him, Mamba spirit will always live on. I miss you Kobe.
Watching this again,2023, this was the season I sometimes took a leave from work just to watch their game against each other, supporting the Lakers team was one of the biggest source of inspiration.

Also David Stern.
This is just 11years ago, but the players did not shoot threes all the time like in todays league...
Much more enjoyable

these guys aren’t scared to play strong defense & vice versa
Yeah and so many basic handling mistakes and turnovers. Like half of these big guys not even able to go between the legs two times. All this glorifying of the old days where half of the players where just big and not skillful.
@@KleinSchalker i know idk y people always glorifying the old days the NBA better now
"BAAANNNGGG, TIE GAME" gonna be sad when Mike Breen retires, glad I was able to hear and watch Marv Albert in the Finals and a awesome series between Hawks and Bucks going the full 7 games during ECF.
That was 6 games man lol
I’ve seen this game many times. But I never knew just how dominant the Lakers late game defense was. Incredible. Gasol blocking Pierce on one end, then scoring a tough contested shot on the block.
Damn... it's crazy watching this right now feeling like it wasn't that long ago and seeing how many of them are gone already 😢
I remember watching this game like it was yesterday. 12 years ago already is hard to believe. this looks like only 5 years ago but omg time flies
Yeah Van Gundy's face is alot fatter now.🤣🤣🤣
I remember being in high school and rushing after practice so I could catch the games. Next day I bragged Lakers all day. So glad for Kobe. RIP 🐐
Wow rewatching this made me so emotional. So thankful to have witnessed this live! RIP to everyone we lost in the video
How old you is
Just finished watching this and i got to see how Kobe amazes me again... really missed this guy❤
The hardest championship any superstar won. RIP Kobe. Celtics had the more talented team by a mile. This the proudest I have ever been of a Lakers team. They showed so much heart this series. Makes me so sad watching this spineless team we have now. March 2022.
It's true, even Phil Jackson is on record saying that Boston team was *thee BEST* team he has ever coached against. Let that sink in.
Just say the man shot like shit. Instead of saying stupid shit like this was the hardest championship any superstar won. And no I ain’t hating. I’m a lakers fan. People hear someone say silly shit like that on television and just repeat it

So many memories from this postseason. Graduated high school this year and this ring made it that much more exciting. Watching this game with 3 friends, one of which was a lakers fan and the other 2 were Celtics fans. Such a good time

KOBE BRYANT 23 POINTS MOST OF ANY PLAYER 15 REBOUNDS AND THE GAME WINNING ASSIT PLUS 94 % FT SHOOTING THAT SERIES WITH 29 6 6 1 AND 2 INCREDIBLEEEE BLACK MAMBA FOREVER !!!!!!!!!
his shooting was awful tho. gasol and Lamar won this final game
@@kingindanorth0072 Gasol shot 6/18 on 37% (technically 5/18 Bc his shot in the fourth was a travel as he came down b4 the ball left his hands) from the field as well as 53% from the free throw line. U can’t discredit someone who led all scorers and say others saved the game for him with all that context applied. Stop being delusional.
Gascol really won this game for the lakers though. Kobe played awful actually, almost all his points were off of second chance opportunities.

I always watch this series most this game 7! its the best Game 7 Finals ever! Both Lakers and Celtics did a great job, Lakers winning in the end with poise and they are focused throughout the game. the best defense I've ever seen with everyone rotating to defend. You see on 4th qtr Lakers are doing business and they meant it. The Sweetest indeed! Kobe will never be forgotten.
Ron Artest did it for his hood
Always nice to see 2 GOATs sharing the court. The Black Mamba and The White Mamba.
Sad thing all 5 have passed in the ceremony presentation. Buss, Russell, stern, Kobe, Stewart Scott. May the rest in paradise! 😢
Times when NBA still have rivalries 2007 to 2016. Most players today are either friends, brothers, or best friends with each others mom.
Lamar Odom was such a beast , perfect glue guy
He wld be perfect in today's game
I Will Never Forget This Day. I Was So Happy The Lakers Won and Kobe Got His 5th Ring, I Also Had 90 dollars on the line and I didn't have the money and I'm watching it with my friend that I placed the bet with. that last 4 mins was intense.

The last time we saw proper defence played in the finals. Miss this era.

no super team? one of the teams here is responsible for super teams in the modren era
This series had some unreal defense.
This series had some unreal poor shooting.
@@cjvaye99
First, the defense wasn't all that great back then, the league and the refs simply allowed fouling.
I guess everyone just likes the era they grew up watching. I was born in 97 so I grew up watching mid 2000s as a kid. My uncle could barely tolerate that era as he always said it was soft and he cant when watch the game anymore without complaining and going into a rant about how soft it is. its actually funny I can see the disgust on his face when harden barely gets touched flops and get to the line. lmao
@@fishbone3333 no I agree they were the greatest team ever. thats why it was boring to me. you already knew what the outcome would be. I actually didnt even watch the NBA finals after 2016. because I knew the warriors were going to win every year. so I missed the 2017, 2018 and 2019 finals completely because i knew they would win and of course Toronto got the upset that last year because of injuries and i missed it. but it sounds like I missed nothing in 2017 and 2018.

Back when the Lakers had real heart when playing.

No disrespect to Kobe, this championship was a total team effort, not just a couple star players carrying everybody.
That’s the truth, they are a team, not individuals
He should had thanked his teammates all they way right after. Probably the worst star perfomance in nab history. Like his shooting selection was sooooo bad.

Kobe's 24 jersey is retired next to pau and kobe's 8 next to shaq
I miss this NBA so much. Feels like it meant more, but maybe more players like Kobe will come as the gears go on. We've got Jimmy Butler but it seems there are way fewer DAWGS in the game, when this game 7's full of 'em
Agree. It felt like the players actually cared and respected the fans by playing hard.
@@sampatel41 it felt like they respected the game over everything. Not that most dude's don't care now it's just less apparent
The introduction of the starting line ups.
Me then: such an exciting feeling, I hope Lakers win!
Me now: Dead men walking...(celtics)
