I’m English and my first trip to Russia was 2002, and then 2004 I returned to buy a house and live. All my friends said Russia was frozen all year, everything was grey and I would be abducted by the mafia and shot. I told them Dr Zhivago was a movie and Russia wasn’t like that.
I arrived shortly after the dark days of the 90’s. Everything was cash based, so to buy a house I had to bring cash from the UK. Of course I couldn’t declare this at the airport in Moscow, so I hid it everywhere. 70 thousand dollars in 20 dollar bills. My first New Year's eve after buying a house I was in my local Магнит looking at labels on beer trying to decide what to buy. A Russian husband and wife asked if I needed help. I told them I was English and didn't know what was a good beer so they invited me to their home for the New Year celebration. I've loved Russia ever since.
Wow! Man that is a great story. Thanks for sharing 🤝

I recently found your channel from Expat American's youtube. I love your videos and subscribed. I have had a positive view of the Russian people for many years. Every person I've ever spoken to from Russia has been very respectful and kind to me. I hope to visit your beautiful country one day. I just wish your language wasn't so hard to learn haha. But I'm going to keep trying to learn it. Cheers from America! 🇺🇸🤝🏻🇷🇺

The problem is Americans don’t have extra money to save for a trip to Russia. Not only Russia doesn’t like the American government but the Americans don’t like their government! We really can’t change much!
There is a price to pay in everything we do and problems in both countries as always.
Sounds like cope. If there is will there is a way.
@@KillYour_TV😂 People in the US have money to go to Russia they just don’t because why would you? authoritarian regime in a geographically not so different nation, nothing interesting about it other than its history of tyranny and the will of the people to persevere it, people in the US go to the tropics,Japan, Korea or Europe for vacation not some craphole like Russia where if you aren’t living in one of small handfuls of urban hubs then you’re living in the early 1900s, villages and lots of places with far outdated infrastructure and not even sewer systems.
The majority of americans do not travel overseas but it is not because they don’t want but because they can’t afford it, that’s the truth. Since the cost of living in the USA is so expensive, it is almost impossible to travel outside the US for most of the American middle class.

I will never come back to Australia if I have any say in it. I have gone back to two jobs which was a mistake and I went back to my hometown and it was not what it used to be (still love it though). Since then I have made myself a promise to never return to anything, only to go forward (to Russia).

American cities are a dystopia crime ridden nightmare, but geographically, most of America is not the cities where it is safe and clean. America also is not really one country, it was founded as separate states. Although that has been diminished, much of that individuality of the states does remain. The states are incredibly diverse and so different that they really have no business being one country. The way Americans generalize the rest of the world is not much different than the way America is generalized. So many people in American cities have never left their city and have no concept how rural Americans live much less Russia.
Exactly. When Joseph said that most Americans never left the country, I thought - no, most Americans never left their city.
I Hope America can get back to it’s roots.
I found you from the Expat American’s (Joseph Rose) RUclips channel and I love your videos. They are fun and delightful to watch :)

This was a great interview, Lisa!! Expat is correct in his anyalsis. Our politicians and media tell us to be afraid of Russia. That's why I don't pay attention to mainstream media anymore. Until you experience it yourself, it's best to hold your judgements. I've been fascinated by Russian culture and learning the history of it. I'm glad I found your channel and conducted this interview with an American. Expat seems like a genuine guy and knows quite a lot from his experiences living in Russia. Great job, Lisa! @@lisa_with_love Your TV was also telling you that USSR was great and everything was perfect. But USSR collapsed, and not the USA : just a fact.
@@sunnybgbg Yes, the political system in the USSR was very weak. All the power was in the hands of one leader because he had to be the best of all. And when the scumbag, scoundrel, and traitor Yeltsin came to power, he just destroyed the whole country with a single order.

Do a review of the California Diner! How authentic is the food and atmosphere inside the establishment? Nice collab with a fellow YTber from the States. Looking forward to your next video from Moscow.
I agree, it would be great. But it's not an authentic cafe, it's a cafe in style - the way Russians imagine an American cafe after watching Hollywood movies. 😆
It is very bright and colourful 🐻❄️ I think average American diner looks more simple
@@lisa_with_loveHi, Lisa. Yes, I think you're right. There are some American diners which are like California Diner and are newer but try to go for colorful retro 50s and 60s diner vibe. But the average diner type place like Waffle House chain which is everywhere in Southern USA has more no frills vibe - waitresses will not be wearing retro uniforms and they won't be playing retro music.
To be more technical the American Diners in Moscow are Restaurants with an American Diner theme. Yes. I do not think Russians would want authentic Diner service 😂😂😂

Blows my mind with what's going on in the world right now that Americans still get a 3 year visa to Russia whereas everyone else (in the western world) gets 90 days.

What are you? Are you Putler's deputy for tourism? What is your role in the Z murder state?
Wonderful video. I’d love to move to Russia! Is it difficult to do so for us with an American passport/citizenship? I’m a healthcare professional with a doctorate degree and I’m assuming Russia would have job openings for such people but I’m not sure
Visiting Russia requires a visa. A tourist visa is issued in one month and is valid for three years. And yes, healthcare professionals, this is a highly demanded profession in Russia and is even included in the list of necessary specialists to whom the government is ready to grant citizenship under a simplified scheme.
The only thing that many people who have moved to Russia recommend is that it is better to come on vacation first, just to look at, because the stereotype of the harsh Russian weather is not a stereotype at all and will not suit everyone.

It is correct that American people do not care about Russia that much. The other way round Russia, and especially its rulers are obsessed with the US. The rulers needed an enemy to unite the people behind them, therefore 10 years of propaganda were spread all over the Russian people about the "US/Collective West".
When you are not making sightseeing clips only, but touching these political, media, propaganda topics and you have not a single point of critic about Russia then it is stupid one-sided promo only.
Interesting discussion points:
- vertical of power in Russia
- democracy/dictatorship
- freedom of speech
- where is the oposition gone /rhetoric question
- free press
- free elections
- right to protest
- killing and being killed

Some of the people from each country can be friends I am pretty sure. I do not have bad feelings for the people there but with US support of Ukraine I think many Russians would not want me there even though I have absolutely no control of what the US Government does, I understand those sort of feelings. The first time I visited was in December, 2014.
I flew from Hong Kong (65 degrees F) 8 hours north to a city named Khabarovsk in the far east to visit some people I had met on RUclips. While landing it looked like the north pole.
Except for extreme winter cold (be prepared).. What I found was like nothing I had been told.
A beautiful, immense land.
With a great people and culture. Absolutely stunning women and smart, very well behaved children.
Great restaurants and shopping.
A city of 500,000 people. Compared to any big city you can think of in America, it's an extremely safe place.

Driving around the city is not for the feint of heart, especially in the wintertime.

What is Shamim ?
I suggested someone a historical Russian drama series, “Sophia”, and I was told that it was doubtful that she’d watch it because she didn’t want to be propagandized. 😂
Right decision. Everyone knows that Russia adds 25 frames to all movies, which makes you a communist. 😆

I like this video ❤ there's good and not so good people, places, things in every country.
I don't think the Russian government is trying to harm anyone, I think they're just trying to protect their people and their culture 🤷🏻♀️ (it seems like Russians take pride in their culture)
Russia probably looks at the west like a rowdy, bratty, disrespectful child throwing tantrums for every little thing lol
